Singer Keyshia Cole is moving ahead with the promotion of her latest CD, “Calling All Hearts.” Despite less than stellar sales, the 29 year old R n’ B diva and her record label, Geffen, have started production on two new videos, including one for her next single, “Take Me Away.” Keyshia tweeted a photo from the set, saying the shoot “felt good” and that it was her first time ever smiling throughout an entire video.
Did poor sales for Keyshia Cole’s “Calling All Hearts” album lead the singer to fire her longtime manager Manny Halley? That’s the word going around the water cooler. Keyshia announced via Twitter earlier this week that she was no longer managed by Halley, who has guided her career for the past five years.
After making the revelation, Keyshia tweeted what appeared to be a possible explanation for her decision.
“Someone said if the people around u won’t change, change the people around you. If you always do what you always did. You’ll always get wht you always got….. Stop being afraid. Its ok to change for the better. Trust me.”
Sales of Keyshia’s latest album have not been spectacular; however, they have not been catastrophic either. The album is almost Gold and with the release of more singles, will probably reach platinum status.
Keyshia’s disappointment with fan reception of her latest project was evident a few weeks ago when she revealed to Yahoo News that her choice of “I Ain’t Thru” as lead single was probably a mistake. Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair said the label would stand by Keyshia’s album and that two new videos were already in the works.
While speaking recently with Yahoo News about the release of her “Calling All Hearts” album, Keyshia Cole divulged her regrets about releasing “I Ain’t Thru” as its lead-off single. Unlike previous lead-offs, “Thru” has not garnered Keyshia any major buzz and has languished at the bottom of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop songs charts, peaking at a modest #58 as of last week.
When asked why she chose the single, Keyshia says she was “trying to make a statement,” that being “I’m doing me, you know. I don’t have no regrets for nothing that I’m doing.” When asked if she was trying to piggy-back off of the popularity of rapper Nicki Minaj who is featured on the track, Keyshia said her only motivation was to let her fans know what “frame of mind” she was in with this record and that Nicki’s new found success was in no way a factor in her singles choice.
Ron Fair, chairman if Geffen Records, says the label is not worried about the success of Keyshia’s latest album and that first week sales would be a non factor in the album’s overall success and longevity. Keyshia’s last two albums, “The Way It Is” and “Just Like You,” both had strong opening week sales, selling over 300,000 copies and eventually going on to multi-platinum status.
Fair said Geffen has every intention of sticking with “Calling All Hearts,” which was released yesterday, and that two new videos were already in the works.
Keyshia’s first week sales predictions should be out later on today.
With the release of Keyshia Cole’s “Calling All Hearts” album less than a month away, the singer’s label has finally decided to unveil its cover art. Reportedly shot by photographer David Slipjer, the cover features a very stoic looking Keyshia staring blankly into a mirror. Also featured prominently on the cover is a line of tattoo lip art called Violent Lips. Keyshia recently tweeted a photo of herself wearing a version of the tattoo called Lip Minx, which she also showed off on a recent episode of BET’s 106 & Park. Keyshia said she’ll be endorsing the line, which has designs that range in price from $12.99 to $14.99.
So what do you think of Keyshia’s cover? And what about Violent Lips, would any of you guys wear temporary tattoo art on your lips?
