Danai Gurira to Appear in Next ‘Avengers’ Movie

Though she has yet to appear as Okoye in the upcoming Black Panther film, actress Danai Gurira has already booked another gig as the character in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. For those of you not familiar with the comic-book character, Okoye is the leader of the Dora Milaje, a fearsome group of female warriors who watch over the royal family of the fictional African country of Wakanda.

Nicole Beharie & Danai Gurira Cover Essence

“Sleepy Hollow” actress Nicole Beharie has landed what will hopefully be the first of many covers for Essence magazine.

Though I had hoped Nicole would grace the cover alone, she has instead been featured alongside another worthy cover star: Danai Gurira of “The Walking Dead,” Alfre Woodard, who has been featured on a solo cover in the past, and surprisingly, LaVerne Cox of “Orange is the New Black.”

Danai Gurira at the Satellite Awards

One of my favorite new actresses, Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on ‘The Walking Dead,’ looked super gorgeous over the weekend while attending the 17th Annual Satellite Awards in Century City, California.

Danai, who has the kind of amazing skin you only seem to find among African women, wore an eye-popping black and white ensemble, which she paired with a black clutch and red ankle boots.

Speaking about her upcoming projects, Danai said she is still doing taping on season 3 of ‘The Walking Dead’ but plans to return to the theater when the shoe goes on hiatus in the spring.

Danai Gurira Joins the Walking Dead

Actress Danai Gurira is joining the cast of AMC’s zombie blockbuster “The Walking Dead.”

The 20-something year old actress, best known for her roles on “Treme” and “Law & Order,” will play the katana wielding Michonne, a mysterious character (to those who haven’t read the comic book) who shows up on the scene with two chained zombies in tow.

Danai’s character made her first appearance on tonight’s season finale, but was totally covered up. It wasn’t until series creator Robert Kirkman broke the news on “The Talking Dead” that we knew who had landed the role of the iconic heroine.

The character of Michonne had been a highly sought after role, with actresses Rutina Wesley and Tracie Thoms reportedly vying for the part.

Danai Guriria Gets Colorful for DuJour Magazine

Danai Guriria Gets Colorful for DuJour MagazineDanai Gurira is gracing the inside pages of the October edition of DuJour magazine. The Walking Dead actress stuns in a colorful six-page spread, which was lensed and styled by photographers Peter Ash and Paul Frederick.

Danai is presently having a career defining moment as a playwright, having landed Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o to star in her off-Broadway play Eclipsed. “It’s exciting working with Lupita,” Danai told DuJour. “I wrote this play specifically with her in mind.”

Jada Pinkett-Smith Calls ‘All Eyez on Me’ Portrayal “Deeply Hurtful”

Jada Pinkett-Smith is Not a Fan of ‘All Eyez on Me’ Film

Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith is not a fan of the new Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me. The 45-year old Girls Trip star took to Twitter earlier this morning to lament the portrayal of her relationship with the late rap icon, calling the “re-imagining” of their relationship on screen “offensive” and “deeply hurtful.”

Vote for Your Favorite Black Actress

Voting for the 2015 People’s Choice Awards is underway and quite a few Brown Sistas have their names in contention, including my favorite: “Sleepy Hollow” actress Nicole Beharie.

Nicole is up for Favorite Sc-Fi/Fantasy Actress, as is Danai Gurira who stars in “The Walking Dead” and Halle Berry who starred in the summer TV thriller “Extant.”

I’m partial to Beharie because “Sleepy Hollow” and Ichabbie is everything. Halle is cool, but “Extant” bored me and poor Danai, Michonne is a major character in the comic book version of “The Walking Dead,” but the TV version has practically turned her into a mute. I would be shocked if her character has said five-hundred words in the last two seasons.

Behind the Scenes with Michonne

With the third season of “The Walking Dead” just weeks away, AMC is giving the show’s fans a behind the scenes look at one of its newest characters, comic book fan favorite Michonne.

As previously reported, Michonne will be played by actress Danai Gurira, who in the clip below talks a bit about the training she had to endure in order to be able to convincingly wield a katana.

AMC has also released more promo shots of Danai as Michonne, sporting her trademark hood.

Don’t forget to tune in to the third season premiere on October 14th.
