Actress Ryan Destiny Covers Kode Magazine
Ryan Destiny is covering the latest edition of Kode magazine. The 22-year old model turned actress is currently celebrating the season two renewal of her Star series on Fox. Despite a shaky start, the network believed in the show enough to grant it an additional thirteen episodes for its sophomore season, and a coveted timeslot behind Empire when it returns in the fall. For her cover story, Destiny recounts hearing of the show’s early renewal, calling it both a “surprise” and “a blessing.”
Empire creator Lee Daniels has cast Queen Latifah as the lead of his next music-themed show for the Fox network. The as yet untitled project will revolve around a girl group, set to be played by newcomers Ryan Destiny (Low Winter Sun), Brittany O’Grady (The Messengers) and Jude Demorest (Dallas).
Queen Latifah will play Carlotta, a beauty shop owner who befriends the girls and becomes a sort of surrogate mother to the trio.
Keke Palmer Joins ‘Star’ Cast
Star, the Empire spin-off that debuted last season to somewhat tepid ratings, is adding yet another high profile name to their season two roster. According to published reports, Keke Palmer has booked a recurring role on the musical drama, which stars Queen Latifah, Ryan Destiny, Jude Demorest, and Benjamin Bratt.

In preparing to write my review for the pilot episode of the Empire spin-off Star, I kept trying to find another story of a girl group I could compare it to. There is of course Dreamgirls and Sparkle, but I found Star didn’t quite remind me of either. Yes, there are similarities, but it’s obvious creator Lee Daniels aims to think outside the box for his telling of three female singers who leave home in search of the bigtime.

‘Empire’ Spin-off ‘Star’ Pushed Back to Mid-Season
Once thought to be airing this summer, Fox’s upcoming Empire spin-off, Star, has now been pushed back to mid-season and will reportedly air sometime in the spring of 2017. At their Upfront event yesterday, the network unveiled the first trailer for the series, which appears to be named after the character played by twenty-seven old former Dallas actress, Jude Demorest.
