Alicia Keys Listens to Her Heart

I admit to not paying much attention to Alicia Keys lately. I wasn’t a fan of ‘Girl on Fire’ or any of the other numerous singles from her upcoming album that have leaked online.

Having said that, my affinity for Alicia’s previous four albums is why I continue to support her, even though 2009’s ‘Element of Freedom’ only had about two good songs on it.

Still, Alicia continues to be a fan favorite and proved as much with her recent sold out concert at Lincoln Center.

Alicia performed a medley of her hit singles, as well as a few tracks from her upcoming album, including the one below, ‘Listen to Your Heart.’

FYI: Alicia’s ‘Girl on Fire’ single also benefitted from Billboard’s reworking of the R&B charts last weeks. Her remix version of the single featuring Nicki Minaj is selling relatively well via iTunes, helping to propel it all the way up to #3 on the newly erected R&B Songs chart.

  1. “I admit to not paying much attention to Alicia Keys lately.” Yeah we know…she’s been some of everywhere lately and not one post LOL that’s funny.

Anyway while the video quality is not the greatest the song sounds good. I happen to like ‘Girl On Fire’, the original and blue light version. The video debuts on BET on friday. ‘New Day’ wasn’t my favorite but it grew on me. I love ‘Brand New Me’, can’t wait to hear the album version. ‘Not Even the King’ is a great song as well. I think Alicia has put together a solid classic album that her fans won’t be dissapointed in. Most exciting though is that she just confirmed an official duet (not just background vocals) with Maxwell, he has been tweeting about it. Now them two have the potential to make a crazy song so I’m excited to hear that.

  2. Alicia’s music went down when she hooked up with Swizz. All she do now is scream. None of these new songs speak to you like her classics. The soul is gone. She makes generic pop now.

  3. This is a really nice song…didn’t like “Girl on Fire”…but this and “Not Even An King,” I do! It’s R&B…I love AK when she sings withn her lower register…like “Teenage Love!”…she’s reinventng herself, something artists and women definitely have to do or we get stuck, left behind, embittered an regretful. Time is so fleeting, two decades before we are greatly devalued in careers and in society at large.

I applaud this sista for continuing to provide music with messages and her foundation which is as prominent as her music!

  4. Someone needs to throw some water on that “fire”. All that yelling sounds Te-rri-ble!
