Alicia Keys To Play Lena Horne?
A Lena Horne biopic has been in the works for years and as far back as 2004 singer Janet Jackson was slated to play the role until Lena apparently had her booted because of the Superbowl scandal. Not much was heard about the project after that but now Page 6 is reporting that Oprah Winfrey has taken control of the project and cast Alicia Keys in the lead role. As you all know Alicia has acted before, appearing in the “Nanny Diaries” and this year’s “Smoking Aces”. I saw neither movie so I cannot vouch for Alicia’s acting skills. I am however happy to see the project moving forward with Alicia and am even more happy to see Alicia diversifying her acting portfolio.
In other AK news, the sista performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert earlier this week. Alicia’s new vamped up look is a winner.

I like Alicia, but I’m not sure if I can see her playing Lena Horne. Janet looks more like her, so it’s a shame it didn’t work out. Alicia’s acting skills are pretty good though. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. She looks great above. I love the way those dresses fit her

That doesn’t seem like that will be a proper fit. Lena was elegant, classy, ultra feminine, small-boned, delicate, and jazzy. Alicia is funky, assertive, a thinker, sexy but strong, sultry but tough…Visually I just can’t see her filling her shoes….but we’ll see

I luv me some Alicia Keys, but the leading lady from “Idol Wild” should play Lena Horn. I don’t remember her name. I just know she’s married to Robin Thick, but that woman looks like Lena and she can sing.
I’m sure Alicia will do a great job though. I don’t think Oprah would cast her if she didn’t think she would do an excellent job. This might really showcase Alicia’s acting skills.

:stop: Crap Talker Alicia keys is elegant, classy and some of her songs do have a jazz feel to then. She may not be ultra feminine like Lena Horne was. But Keys and Horne share a lot in common. Both were from New York and became famous quickly. Keys is a spokesperson for several AIDS organisations and Horne was heavily involved in the civil rights movement. And let’s not forget both of then are mixed

I definitely think Alicia can and will pull it off! She pulled off the assasinator role in Smoking Aces and although I haven’t seen Nanny Diaries yet, I read a few reviews and Alicia’s acting got good reviews. They definitely favor, I saw some pics on another blog the resemblance is quite stong. I really couldn’t see Janet doing this role. Lena has a very distinct speaking and singing voice tone that I think Alicia could come closer to. Either way I am glad to see a beautiful and talented woman like Lena get her story told in a respectful manner, cause with Oprah in charge trust it will be top notch!

I don’t believe this because Alicia has been very clear about not wanting to be pigeonholed into playing herself, essentially… I know many musicians have played musicians, Bette Middler did in “The Rose” and “Beaches” but I just don’t think it should be a constant thing…And, honestly I think the whole biopic thing, let alone telling the story of musicians, is played… Enough is enough…it’s like people are consciously choosing these very emotional stories to win awards and recognition…it’s contrived and unbelievable at this point. It would make more sense, doing a sort of ensemble cast thing where tons of black historical figures collide or something…
I don’t care who plays the role (although Janet would be best), I don’t want to see it.

If anybody should play Lena, Oprah picked the right person Miss Alicia Keys. There’s nobody in the industry that looks like lena horne but alicia and alicia can sang. Alot of people thought that alicia would be the first and the last best person to play lena horne. All she needs is a better acting coach then she’ll be probably be oscar worthy or a golden globe.

I think Alicia Keys will do a great job in this role, it’s a big step for her acting career. Oprah knows her options. She knows Janet, and Paula Patton(was on show with Robin Thicke.) So I’m pretty sure she made the right choice, she is a really smart woman.
