Angela Bassett to Launch Skin Care Line for Black Women
Angela Bassett is set to launch her first skincare line next month. The American Horror Story actress recently teamed up with her longtime doctor, Barbara Sturm, to create a skin care line especially tailored to women with darker skin.
Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm is the follow-up to Sturm’s original skin care line, and will specifically focus on issues related to women of color, like inflammation and hyperpigmentation.
Angela tried Sturm’s original skin care line and loved the collection, but said she always needed something extra. “I told Barbara my concerns and together we decided to do a spin-off that would focus on issues I and other women with darker complexions tend to have.”
According to Sturm, the key to their new line is purslane. “It’s a herb,” Sturm told WWD. “And it has incredibly powerful properties that aid in skin rejuvenation and anti-aging. It helps activate an enzyme that actually works against natural programmed cell death and that’s the key. It’s all very exciting.”
Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm will debut with five key products: a foaming and enzyme cleanser, face cream and accompanying crème, and hyaluronic serum. The line will sell exclusively online and at Harrods in London.
