Anika Noni Rose to Star in BET Pilot ‘The Yard’


Anika Noni Rose Lands Lead Role in ‘The Yard’ Pilot

Actress Anika Noni Rose has landed the lead role in the upcoming BET pilot The Yard. Rose will play the newly elected President of a fictional historically black college, Georgia A&M, who is tasked with turning the school around while dealing with an eclectic new group of freshmen.

Anika will be joined by Jasmine Guy, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Sean Blakemore. Felecia D. Henderson, best known for her work on Soul Food, Everybody Hates Chris, Moesha, Sister, Sister and so, so much more, will act as producer, alongside Rob Hardy who’ll also be directing the two-hour pilot.

Anika can also be seen in the upcoming third season of Power which debuts in July. She’ll also be starring as Kizzy in the upcoming History Channel remake of Roots.

  1. This cast is pretty old and not very well known. BET is going to have to add a bit of youth and star power to tap into ratings. Anika is an excellent actress though and I’ll tune in to see what they have in store. I hope the students aren’t stereotypical though and please don’t add a white student just for fake diversity.
