Anika Noni Rose Lands Lead Role in New CBS Pilot

“Dreamgirls” actress, Anika Noni Rose, is the latest Brown Sista to secure an acting gig during this busy pilot season.

According to online reports, Anika will helm the new CBS civil rights drama “For Justice,” which is based on James Patterson’s debut crime novel “The Thomas Berryman Number.” The pilot is being written by “Law & Order” alum Rene Belcher and lensed by Selma director Ava DuVernay.

Noni Rose will play FBI agent Natalie Chappel, who is assigned to the civil rights division and finds herself having to walk a fine line between her professional duties and the radical family she was brought up in.

The show is expected to touch on a number of real life events, including the recent shooting deaths of several unarmed black men across the country.

Anika joins a growing list of black women who have found starring roles in network pilots this season, including Meagan Good (Monority Report), Jill Marie Jones (Ash vs Evil Dead), Aunjanue Ellis (Quantico) and Yaya DaCosta (Chicago Med).
