Ashanti Bounces Back Onto The Charts+CD Cover

Ashanti returns to the Urban Top 10 for the first time in more than three years, as “The Way That I Love You” (Universal Motown) vaults 14-8. The 27-year-old last ranked in the top 10 with the No. 10-peaking “Only U” in January 2005. “Way” becomes Ashanti’s 14th top 10, extending her mark for most top 10 songs by a female this decade. Beyonce, Ciara and Mary J. Blige share second place with 10 apiece. Among all artists, Ludacris leads with 20 in that span. Ashanti is also scheduled to perform at “Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series” on June 6th. The performances run from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m, featuring a set of three-four songs. The event will be held in New York’s Bryant Park this year. Ashanti’s fourth studio album, “The Declaration,” is due June 3.

I like the song and the video, Not to much of a fan, I always thought she was over rated when she first came out.. she doesnt have a strong voice and its only so many sounds she can play with, other than that she writes really good hooks and her songs are catchy, even if she’s saying “baby baby” 50 times on a song! lol… she also looked really good on her video.. its a good time for her to come out while Beyonce is on ice, if any of these R&B female singers know better they all need to bring something out while B is enjoying being Mrs. Cater cause we all know whats going to happen when she comes out! BEYONCE OVER LOAD! LOL

Coincidence maybe? Now that Beyonce is “temporarily” off the set, other female artists albums are now #1. Whatever. I swear, the media (people) are so hypocritical. If I was a female singer / entertainer competing against Beyonce, I would talk about all the things she don’t talk about…and still look fly. Beyonce is stale and I hate to even have to talk about her on an Ashanti post, but it is what it is. I never been much of Ashanti’s fan, but these days I’m tuning my ears/eyeballs to a lot of underrated artist because I feel they deserve just as much of our attention and MONEY.

Those Beyonce stans stay on their grind. Beyonce can’t stop anyone from having a #1 album. She can only come out once and then their are 51 more weeks available for any male or female or to have a #1 album as well. Beyonce hasn’t stopped or stalled anyone’s career. If radio is going to play you they are going to play you and no other artists can affect you. Beyonce has never owned the charts. She has always been on the charts with dozens of other females who have also held their own. Beyonce had one big album and Bday was a so-so effort that sold 3 million less than her first solo cd. Ashanti has earned her place like anyone else and still has the biggest first week debut from a solo female ever. Not an Ashanti fan but wish her the best and respects her work ethic. Bey stans worried with Mariah and Alicia back and selling twice what Beyonce has sold, they are seeing how truly small she is up against power houses like Mariah and Alicia.

first let me say this, I could really care less about any of them, cause non of these so called atrist are putting any money in my pocket! and please believe I could care less about who comes out when! my point is this whenever Beyonce has something coming out, you see her on every make up, hair, soda, perfume, clothing, direct tv commerical, and anything else she can put her name on, and its hard for other female artist new or old to have their time to shine! that’s my point! so for all of you taking things the wrong way, getting defensive over these singers/rappers who wouldnt know your name if you stalked their myspace page and joined the fan web site logging on leaving messages a million times a day! need to relax and understand its not that DAMN DEEP!
FYI! I wasnt bringing Beyonce up as a topic because i think that topic was enough a couple of days ago, i was making my point! AGAIN… i could care less about Ashanti, Beyonce and any other singer thats doing their thing. But if she wants her shine now is the best time for her to come out since!! MRS CARTER, AKA BIGGA, AKA B AND WHAT EVER ELSE YALL CALL HER, IS ONE ICE!!

    THE END!

I HONESTLY DON’T SEE HOW PEOPLE THOUGHT ASHANTI WAS OVER RATED. I MEAN, HONESTLY SHE WAS EVERY DAMN WHERE WHEN SHE CAME OUT. I MEAN THE GIRL SOLD OVER 502,00O COPIES OF HER DEBUT ALBUM IN THE FIRST WEEK, AND OVER 300,000 ON HER SECOND ALBUM IN THE FIRST WEEK. HOW IS THAT CONSIDERED UNDERRATED?? HONESTLY I REALLY STARTED GETTING TIRED OF LOOKIN AT THE CHICK, CUZ SHE WAS RELEASING ALBUMS EVERY YEAR (LIKE RIHANNA) AND IT WAS LIKE THEY STARTED GETTING WORSE AND WORSE, THEN SHE FINALLY WENT UNDER THE RADAR AND GOT A FEW LITTLE MOVIE ROLES TO PASS THE TIME. IF SHE HAD KEPT UP HER LITTLE PATTERN PEOPLE WOULD BE SAYING THEY ARE TIRED OF HER TO.

BUT I AIN’T HATIN’ THOUGH, GET YA MONEY HOW U CAN ASHANTI. THE SONG IS OKAY, BUT I THINK SHE WILL DEFINITELY NEED TO RELEASE ANOTHER SINGLE TO CREATE MORE OF A BUZZ IF SHE WANTS TO DEBUT AT #1 THIS TIME

I really like the song. People have their choices, the same way Sade was out back in the day. I use to love her soft mellow voice. Ashanti kinda gives me the same feel. Her voice is comforting, rather than being all over the place and all extra. It takes a mature person to truly respect each artist for what they can bring, because obviously everyone is different. I respect that she’s been able to come back after 3 years. That is truly a hard task to do.

Why do people think Beyonce Knowles is a threat to every black female singer or artist out there. She is not. She just has a father who used to be an agressive salesmen and a marketing team that know how to pull every string to keep her name out there and her music in heavy rotation.

If I remember correctly, before the “Crazy In Love” days, everyone was riding Ashanti’s coat tail.

It really doesn’t matter, unlike Mariah and Whitney, it’s not like 50 years from now we will be singing any of Ashanti or Beyonce’s songs at our grandchildren’s wedding. Beyonce’s music sucks and the lyrics have absolutely no meaning or substance.

If Beyonce aint a threat, why is she get talked about more than Ashanti in an ASHANTI post?? Beyonce dont even have a single out and yet she is ALWAYS mentioned in another female singers blog. People need to get over it and just accept the fact that Mrs. Carter aint going nowhere until she decides its time. Beyonce’s promo team is too strong for her not to be a threat to anybody…Daddy Knowles don’t play around yall, yall should know that by now lol.

The album cover is just ok though. The overly airbrush-ness of it makes it seem to fake. Shanti is hella sexy and they could have showcased that without airbrushing her thighs away.

Beyonce fans live in a fairytale world where they think that Beyonce is this female who has super human abilities to affect the lives of other female artists. They are like crabs in a barrel… they hate to see anyone else do well. That is a true sign of how young they are. Grown women don’t feel the need to idolize strangers like that cause they have built an identity for themselves.

Ashanti has made major hits over her career and now she is back doing it again. Mariah Carey is back doing it again. Alicia Keys who took four years off is back doing it again. Mary J is back and doing it again. Rather than praise a sista holding it down, these apathetic negress women have the audacity to proclaim that these women only have hits cause Beyonce isn’t around. Talk about delusional and silly women.

Truth is they are afraid that their idol won’t be able to hold her own with so many other high profile women also on the charts. Beyonce is no Alicia or Mariah and were she out right now I think it would be safe to say she would be the third hottest female in the game.

Go head Ashanti and rise up sista. You have just as much right to live out your dreams as anyone else.

Black women are some silly chicks. No wonder you all can’t rise to the top, you are too busy beating each other down. Only Blacks feel compelled to tear one another down is such a vicious fashion. Why must everything go back to one woman? Since when has the charts only had room for one woman? Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Madonna co-existed just fine during the 80s. TLC, En Vogue, SWV, and Jade, all rode high on the charts during why 90s. Why does this generation of Black women act as if there is only room at the top for one Black woman? Why can’t some of us put our own insecurities aside and accept that someone besides those people whom we are addicted to have worked just as hard to be successful and deserve to be at the top as well? Ashanti is a beautiful and gifted sister who is enjoying the fruits of her labor and may God continue to bless her and all the Black women out there trying to make it in this business.

I congratulate ASHANTI on doing her thang despite all the hate she receives. Ashanti still continues to grind it out and produce good music. I love her new song, however one of my favorite songs is Freedom because she lets all the haters no ” I’m gonna close my eyes and I’m gonna live my life, despite what you think, I gonna be free, cause I’m gonna be me” So whether you love or hate her, Ashanti will continue to do her thang. Besides, can any of these R &
B chicks out claim that they hold the record for selling 500K+ for their debut. Did any tie the Beatles records for having 3 top songs in the top ten at the same time. Ashanti is very talented, she writes all her lyrics and her lyrics are not meanless rubbish, but real life that you can relate. Again Congrats to Ashanti and look forward to the new CD.

Ashanti’s album cover is FIERCE! Wow. LOVE IT! She looks like a Tigress!

I’ve never actually ‘purchased’ Ashanti’s music, but I’ve jammed to it on the radio and in the club. She’s just a part of the generation of youngstas that I didn’t really care to buy. Her and a few choice others mentioned in this post. I recognize her writing talents; she’s prolific. I always considered her kind of ‘pop’ ish, an R&B pop act and just never fully got into her. I do like this new single she has. She has her own style. It’s a shame this thread has turned into such a friggin’ debate on Ashanti vs. ‘the Other’. Why? Just let it be. Not every black female singer will sing like Aretha or Whitney. YT folks have a spectrum of singers with varying talents, why can’t we to? Why can’t we just respect our Rihannas, Ashantis, Tweets, Lauryns, Erykahs, Jills, Beyonces??? If everybody sung the same/sounded the same, it’d be such a bore, no? Peace and blessings.

All different sing styles, ranges, stage presences, etc. yet they were all successful and I loved all of them! I have NO IDEA why now it’s different; why the ‘tunnelvision’. And I agree with iris, it’s not just Black women…BUT it IS Black women because that’s who’s being discussed and who’s doing the discussing. Again, peace and blessings and have a great weekend!

and don’ t take crdit for anyone else at her age she makes a grown woman like me
feel what she is saying that is big!
wich will be my 5th this year after “growing pains”"the discipline” “as i am” and “e=mc2″
i’ m looking out for ms houston’ s album too….
Whatever you put out comes back to you 100 times better
the devil can fool you by putting you on top but beware of the nasty fall you’ ll take

as for beyonce i feel that she loves to compete with little singers like rihanna or ciara
or michelle kelly or even solange but when mariah, alicia or janet are out she is nowhere to be seen
she knows in wich categorie she belongs and that is the end of it

I may have my dates messed up but I recall bumping Ashanti’s first album, “foolish” in particular when Beyonce wasn’t even on the radar. The comparisons are silly. Beyonce isn’t a threat to any artist in anyones mind except her over-the-top fans. And, I am starting to think that Beyonce fans are reflections of Beyonce–because they all have the same mentality. NOBODY else can get any positive attention without her fans bringing her name up…sort of like her own bandmates can’t even drop a new album without her needing to be all over the net and news with “leaked” singles and alleged weddings.

Stop believing that other artists are building their lives around Beyonce…only you strange stans build your lives around her. Nobody else. I liked her way more until I encountered you stans on the internet. Your behavior has made me re-examine her behavior and I see the selfish, narrow-minded, ridiculous mentality in her as well. “Me ME ME” -GHEESH IT IS GETTING OLD!

I never considered before that we tend to like artists who are most like us. I’m kind of on the freaky side so I like Janet. I’ve been through hell and back so I like Mary J.

People who can’t stand for anyone else to get any shine, who believe they have to be the center of attention, and are so insecure that hey believe they are constantly in competition–love Beyonce because they see themselves in her.

By the Way, Ashanti’s first single ALONE is more musical and soulful than anything I’ve heard from any former Destiny’s Child with the exception of Kelly’s first album.

People hate on her because she isn’t Bey. She’s not yelling on every single record she makes. She’s not gyrating all over the stage when she performs. She does not sound like Bey, so “she can’t sing”.

Nef, I agree with everything you said about some Bey’s fans. It’s a turnoff sometimes on how they think their idol is perfect.

I am pleasantly surprised with Ashanti’s latest effort. I remember her saying how people are always blasting her for her live performances, complaining that she can’t sing, blah, blah, blah. Seems like she really took it to heart and did some serious voice training while she was ‘away’ from the scene over the last few years. Not to mention she seemingly has more stage presence. I am REALLY proud of her! Never been a huge fan because of her lack of vocal ability, but I must say I LOVED this song the first time I heard it, and I ABSOLUTELTY love, love, love, the video. Way to go Asahnti! That’s what I call reinventing yourself. I will definitely be buying her album. For me, this makes up for my disappointment with Janet. But let’s not get me off topic. Go Ashanti!!!
