New Music From Ashanti

posted by Sista on April 8th, 2010 at 7:24 am

Ashanti is back in the studio working on new music and two new tracks said to be from those recording sessions have now surfaced. “Can’t Let You Go” and “How To Keep Your Girl” were both sent to me via e-mail, so I don’t have a lot of info on them. However “How To Keep Your Girl,” the hottest of the two tracks, is said to be produced by Street Love.

Check them both out below…

  1. Both songs are songs that did not make “The Declaration” released in 2008.

    They are old..recorded in 2008.

I like them but I am glad none of her newly recorded stuff has leaked.

  2. I heard they were new songs but not going to be included on the new album so that is why they were leaked. Doesn’t really matter though cause radio has moved on from Ashanti.

  3. Both songs are good and nothing to sneeze at. I agree with you Dana that radio is biased and just not going to play her music anymore no matter how good it is.

  4. Hope it works out

  5. Is it still Murda, I never know LMAO

  6. The songs are not new..the tracks have dates on them and both of these were recorded in ’08 when she was working on “The Declaration”

  7. Never heard them before. Don’t need to hear them again. And why are the Ashanti fans so emotional screaming about them being old? Is it because the songs suck? If you mad now just wait until her new stuff really does come out and it sucks too :lol2:

  8. :lol2: @HMMM

  9. I really like both songs.
I’ve never been a big Ashanti fan but I’ve always liked her & wish her much success next go round.

  10. Ladies it is okay we can have more than one black female singer out at a time. It use to happen all the time and they all did okay for themselves. Give her a chance. She has always made some nice music so why would radio be over her they still play her old music. If she was smart she would go for an older crowd because the newer generation is not really into actuall music. They are more into an image.

  11. It must really suck to be a female singer these days. These comments are so mean… but honest. These stars need to pull a page from the beyonce book and conquer their craft. There is no motivation for me like having to prove myself. Stars just aren’t stepping up their game to be a great overall performer. Ashanti was never anything special to me. This time off she should’ve been getting some singing and dancing lessons just to be a better performer. Hard work pays off.

  12. Everyone does not have to be a great dancer. Why does every black female singer that comes out have to mold themselves after Beyonce. I mean she has done extremely well for herself but that is her image. Damn let Ashanti be here. It was never her thing to be dancing all over the stage like that so why should she start now. She made some really nice mature laid back music. I have always liked her. Is she a power house voice no she is not but for tha matter niether is Beyonce.

Stop comparing every black singer that comes out to her she is not the beginning nor the end for black female performers. She has made all that money because she tours for like a year and she has a ton of endorsements. No one is selling records like they were back in the day and probably with technology the way it is never will be. But we have got to stop thinking that the only way a sista can make it is to be half naked and parade herself all over the stage. Let’s be happy for what Mrs. Carter has done but lets other singers be who they are and celebrate them for them. Not because they are trying to immulate someone else.

  13. :hater: Good for Ashanti! It will be nice to have some variety in the scene. She is a pretty good singer and deserves a space in the spotlight. She doesn’t need to dance. If you want to dance to her song , help yourself. Otherwise, being able to dance is not a requirement to great entertainment.

  14. I wish her luck and hope she does better this time around.

BEE- You don’t seem quite happy for Beyonce. The reason everyone gets compared to her is because she has the raised the bar, a outstanding singer and performer that’s why so many people depise of her because not many people if any right now does that.

  15. :lol2: love how people get so “emotional” lol, y’all make my day sometimes!

  16. @#’s this post is not about Beyonce. Am I a fan of hers no I never saw what the big deal was, but, hey that doesn’t take away from all that she has accomlished. But the reality is she is not doing anything differently than countless others have done before. But let her be her and lets celebrate the diversity of all black women and stop trying to put everyone in this fish bowl mold.

Maybe the reason Rhianna is so successful is because she said let me be me and it has worked out pretty well for her. They tried to make her a little Beyonce replica when she first came out and it wasn’t her. I am sure is she had came out like that for the Second album it would have been Rhianna who.

Ashanti made some nice music and had some great hits and some big hits so lets stop acting like she is nobody going nowhere fast. This woman is writing a lot of music that you are jamming to and she actually writes her own music. As I stated before we can have more than one black female superstar.

  17. BEE-I totally agree with you I never said there couldn’t ever be more than one successful female artist there were MANY in the 90′s so I don’t know why there “can’t” be any today. But I was just telling you why she gets compared to so many artist whether you like her or not.

  18. Sooooooo, I am a singer to right (not that it matters) and here’s what I think. I like Beyonce and she does do her thing. Everybody does compare every black female singer to her-sad but true…. Ashanti-I like her too and that first album she put out, CLASSIC. We dont like Ashanti b/c she had the best voice, we like her b/c of her music lyrics and beats. But I like her and Beyonce both but fortotally different reasons.

Now these 2 songs I actually like b/c I like that “real talk” music about relationships, friends, B.S that happens in life etc…I really wish they had been on the Declaration ablum cause then I would have got my moneys worth but that album was not good at all. I mean two hot songs tops. To me, these songs sound like the “old Ashanti” or the Ashanti that busted out on the scene several years back and thats cool.

I hope radio will give her a shot since she’s coming back as that cute, real chic with something to say in her lyrics that are a little on the rough side but again, its real talk.

I see from this forum, either you like Beyonce and dislike Ashanti cause she aint Beyonce or the other way around lol… really rather funny.

  19. @#’s you keep trying to make this be about that woman and it’s not. And only certain artisist get compared to her. No one has ever compared Jill Scott, Eryka Badu, Mary J Blige, Jennifer Hudson & countless others to her. There are certain artisist that get compared to her. And to be perfectly honest she and Ashanti make completely different kinds of music so they shouldn’t be compared to each other.

Ashanti makes more adult like music and Beyonce makes teeny bopper music. Which hey it works for her but after awhile she is going to start looking like Mariah. Like a woman who is way to old to act the way she acts. It is time for her to mature in her image and her music. She is not a teeny bopper anymore she is a grown as 30 something year old woman and she is not going ot be able to pull of that bubble gum music for too long. But again this is not about Beyonce this is a post about Ashanti and this is about Ashanti coming out with a new album.

Here is another female artisist that is doing her thing that does not get compared to Beyone actuall it’s two of them Ms. Sade and Ms. Corine Bailey Rae. There is room for all kinds of black female stars we just have to support them. Oh one more Vivian Green do you see a pattern here Numbers.

  20. BEE- Actually she does get compare to those artist you named as well as far as vocally, and the only pattern I see are those are your favorite artist, or am I wrong? One more thing how does she act?…to me she acts like a woman doing her job and what she loves,(making music) just like your favorite artist.

  21. And oh yea that numbers joke is played out

  22. Songs are ok. I like the second one better than the first.

  23. Hope her album does well

  24. I kinda like both songs

IDK what Bey has to do with this though *shrugs*

  25. Can people leave the Only 3 Time Best Contemporary R&B Grammy Winner(Beyonce) out of this argument so we can discuss the first winner of that award(Ashanti).

That song is not bad. I have never been a fan of her tone, but I do like the melody. I heard a song that she did in accepella for a little bit that I like. I hope she does well. I am not necessarily a fan so I can’t say whether I will buy it, but I hope she does well.
