Basketball Wives: The Movie

All that talk of boycotting “Basketball Wives” looks like it’s really starting to pay off… just not in the way some might have expected.

According to published reports, the “Basketball Wives” franchise is set to get even bigger. So big in fact that a feature film based on the reality show has already been picked up by Fox Searchlight.

The project, which is being financed by Tracey Edmonds’ Our Stories production company, is very The Game-esque, in that it centers around the life of a young woman who gives up her dreams and aspirations to follow her baller boyfriend who gets drafted into the pros.

According to Tracey “The beauty of a feature film is that we’ll have the ability to dig much deeper into the stories and characters that come from this very colorful world and create a very juicy action packed narrative,” she told Variety.

So there you have it, despite all the bad press Shaunie and the gang have gotten over the last few weeks, when it all comes right down to it, people keep tuning in, ratings keep going up and Shaunie keeps laughing all the way to the bank.

  1. No amount of protest or boycotting would hinder ratings. People love drama! At least, many took a stand or looked at this show and others as something that’s not good for an already jacked-up perception of black women. This deal had been in the works, but a lot of people won’t view BBW the same, some didn’t or won’t ever care how we’re projected in the media. I applaud all those who rejected this piece of media as status quo and made a loud noise!

In my view or perception, none of those people (BBW) seem happy or beam with joy, not even Shaunie and her fabulous life (millions). There’s no aura of beauty, not physical, but the kind that is exuded and oozes out from joy and goodness. Art imitates life and ugly is as ugly does!

  2. Hmmm, idk what to think about that. But Why don’t people seem to like shaunie again? I think I missed something lol

  3. I know there are producers and it’s scripted reality tv. Whether it’s The Bachelor, Housewives shows, Mob Wives, or the Shahs drama, most of them are demeaning! As an executive producer Shaunie could do better and the ratings is leverage. I don’t dislike Shaunie at all, it’s business decisions I don’t like! I’ve liked Shaunie from her days and interviews with Shaq and their reality tv show, her other business interests and how she had her phoenix rising after a difficult divorce! That said, BBW is just too much!

Oprah’s “Sweetie Pies” and “Beverly Johnson” shows are proof that we don’t have take the lowest route! The same for The Braxtons, even with loud-mouth, over the top Tamar! Brandy’s show was good. I Love Mary Mary’s reality tv show. They ain’t even tryin’ to create drama, they automatically have it! Even the Kardashians started off centering their show around their boutique stores, modeling jobs, Kourtney and Khloe did a really nice swimwear fashion show. But, grown women throwing drinks, spitting, hitting is just not good enough, we are better as Star Jones stated!
