Actress Gabrielle Union has a lot to smile about these days. The 43-year old Being Mary Jane star has just had her show renewed by BET for a fourth season. Gabrielle and BET programming director Stephen Hill announced the news early this afternoon at the network’s 2016 Winter TCA Tour.
The show’s renewal was actually up in the air after creator and showrunner Mara Brock Akil abruptly left at the end of season three to join Warner Brothers Televison.
A new showrunner has not been named, and quite honestly, I believe the show could still be canceled. Hill was put on the spot at the TCA event and bashfully agreed to bring the show back when Union was asked about renewal and redirected the question to him. It’s kinda hard to be put on the spot like that and then say no.
Whatever the case, Being Mary Jane is still BET’s highest rated scripted show, despite its ratings plummeting from 5 million viewers in season one to 1.3 million viewers in season three.
