Beyonce Cancels Album Over Lawsuit

Talk about a bummer. Less than three weeks after releasing a Deluxe Edition of her semi-successful B’day album, Beyonce Knowles and her camp have pulled the compilation from record store shelves citing the pending lawsuit brought by British singer Des’ree.

As we reported last week, Des’ree claims Beyonce and her record label went ahead and recorded and retitled her single I’m Kissing You without her permission after initial talks broke down. The singer is seeking $150,000 in damages and asked that the song and it’s video be shelved.

This is a very unfortunate turn of events for Beyonce as I’m sure she expected this CD to help push sales of the B’day album which though has been certified 3x platinum- has only sold about 2.5 million copies which is well beneath the 6 million her first CD sold.

And in much better news…

As you all remember, we posted pics of Beyonce shooting a Samsung commercial in midtown Manhattan a few weeks ago. Well the finished product, which is only being shown in Japan, is now available for viewing. Word is an English version will be shown here in the United States when the Beyonce Experience tour reaches our shores.

  1. Hate to say it but see what happens when you steal. Now her entire cd and all the work put into it is loss over one song. How foolish. Just foolish.

  2. The media is going to have a field day with this. When will they learn though seriously? How many times can you jack songs and take credit for other people’s work before it comes back to bite you in the :booty:

  3. the irony in all of this is that Kissing You was the last song to be added to the new album and it’s also the song that has officially killed the album.Even the Walmart video anthology was pulled. What a bunch of stealing dweebs.they deserve what they are getting :loser:

  4. Why such a strong move on the part of Sony all over one song? This seems rather extreme is you ask me. To cancel an entire album over a lawsuit seeking a puny one hundred and fifty thousand dollars? Beyonce probably spends more than that on wig glue. I guess in the end they may not have had a choice if Desiree asked that the song and video be removed.Tough break man.I know Bee is steaming mad 😡

  5. I am not sure why they jeopardized this entire album for one song. And, the song in question is the weakest one on the album. She really could have left it out

This is major – but, Beyonce and her team will find a way to recover.

  6. It’s not the first time she’s done it, just the first time she’s been caught. Get out that checkbook bey 😆

  7. The song isn’t weak.Beyonce’s version of it is.Des’re’s version is a beautiful classic.

  8. Why not just pay her the $150.000 and be done with it, that does seem a little extreem for one song maybe it’s more to this.

    🙁

  9. As a true artist and writer.. and I do mean a TRUE ARTIST AND WRITER, this should not be happening…

Now we know who are the true artist and writers out there.

    Think about it!!!!!!

All this work you put into this album, down the drain, not dollar wise, but being ture to yourself as being a artist and writer…

  10. Unfortunately, Beyonce’s unjust deeds are catching up with her. I have always known that Beyonce and her family are nothing but a bunch of lying beats and theives. Her fans will find a way to defend this maddness. And don’t worry the Beyonce police will be on here shortly calling people names and of course the “H” word. Karma is real Beyonce and the tickets for her concert are outrageous if you want to personally meet and greet her. She seriously needs to get over her mediocre accross the board self. I hate to say it but I told you so and I can not wait for Whitney Houston and Alcia keys to come out with their new albums.

  11. Wow, I knew the lawsuit was a big one but I didn’t know it would cause the album to be pulled. Now if she tries to Re-re-release this it is not going to work. What about her tour is she going to keep going? I can’t believe she did that to Desree. Well now we now that Desree is telling the truth and Bey couldn’t buy herself out of this one. Ways catch up with you. Beyonce’s version of it was boring anyway 🙄

  12. Liyah, :iagree: that a re-re-release of the album would look a little odd. Maybe a silent push back onto the shelves would pass once all of this blows over.

Des’ree has such a beautiful song that I can understand Bey’s desire to sing it again. But to change the title with a few different lyrics then list her name first as songwriter was a bit of a stretch. And adding Des’ree’s name as a ‘co-writer’ to a song that she wrote, recorded and made popular long before Bey – well that was just laughable.

However, I think Beyonce did a good job on her version. Maybe because it sounded so much like the original that I was such a fan of in the late 90s.

I wonder what went so well with the song ‘Resentment’ that allowed Bey to record and list her name first as song writer? I was jamming to Victoria Beckham’s performance of that song since 04.

  13. Dang Beyonce, I was actually one of the few people left that thought you had more decency than that, why you gotta go and prove me wrong like that 😥 :lol2: hehe. But this should be a lesson to her; and if it’s true that she’s been stealing songs all along than this is a well deserved punishment. I have to be real though I haven’t bought B-day, so that should be proof enough that I’m Beyonce’d out!! 😆

  14. Well maybe her real life is not so far from her character Deena in Dreamgirls after all.

  15. This shit is all for publicity, I gaurantee you the song will be cleared for Beyonce to use and will be her next single.

And by the way she’s sold 5 million albums world wide so far for B’Day and about 11 million for DIL.

  16. I’m sure once the lawsuit is settled or ‘something’, she will re-re-release it. 🙁

I posted on another site that I think this was the right thing to do; it’s a good way to save face without fully admitting she was purposeful in going against their initial agreement.

Does it really matter anymore? I mean, she’s on tour now. The people that were going to buy the deluxe version have already purchased it, no? She’ll still make her money, although she’ll once again be associated with writing-credits/copyright controversies that have plagued her for awhile. You’d think she’d learn…or that her ‘team’ of lawyers and business managers would know better!

  17.
Well maybe her real life is not so far from her character Deena in Dreamgirls after all.
Which is kinda freaky to think about, isn’t it? :iagree:

  18. Anon, I hardly think this is a publicity stunt, I wouldn’t think she’d risk her rep. And what would she gain from it? If she tries to re-re-release again, it’ll be ignored. Too much too soon. Girl just take a break :hmph:

  19. Good for her she deserves it LOL! Who cares how many millions she has sold she is still a loser. Is she supposed to get over because of her sales? There are and have been much better artist by far that have surpassed a small 5 or 11 million copies of their albums being sold. Let’s try comparing her sales to Whitney’s, Mariah’s, Aretha’s, Celine Dion’s, Barbara Steinson’s,or Patti Labelle’s and see where she stands the answer is she will still be the BIGGEST LOSER LOL!

  20. right the y put the whole album on the line for one song that she didn’t even release. she’s crazy and spoiled, lol. she better put on that Kanye West, “When it all falls down.”

  21. She needs to take a break anyway. Maybe this is a sign.

  22. Wow, this is Karma. The way she and her father treated her ex-band mates, trying to steal the spot light from other female artist and the back-lash from Dreamgirls has really come back to bite her in the butt.

    :brownsista:

How can she sell $5Mill and still be 2x platinum??? That doesn’t make sense…. I bet you this will not be cleared up. Karma’s a bi&*h! Its about time she got caught for lying. B-day was horrible. DIL was cool but the rest of that mess can go! And Beyonce’s version of the song is a mess!

  24. Oh no Bey!!
I hate to hear this. What will she do now?

Probably find a spin and keep making money :dance1:

  25. i like beyonce :dance2: ,but what’s wrong is wrong. she should not have recorded the song/video without definate clearance. but she did so she should own up to her mistake and pay her. everybody makes mistakes, we are all human. besides i dont think that the girl intends to hurt beyonce because she’s only suing for 150k. ne way i wish her much more success!!!!!!! :dance1:

  26. I am sorry for Beyonce. She put her heart and soul into putting out a great product for her fans and for it all to end like this extremely sad. Beyonce should take management or whoever responsibility it was to handle this matter to task.Heads need to roll.

Correction she is 3x platinum. But since this is going on between Dee and Bee will those record sales count??

How can you blame mgmt??? Beyonce has been a slick chick for quite some time. She has learned from who else but her parents. She needs to stop with the all of that and grow up. There’s no telling what else she has taken credit for and it was all someone else’s work. It will all come out soon I’m sure. You can’t blame management if her name is first as the songwriter of the song. That is just dirty something she is used to doing.

  29. I did think it was kinda messed up that she put her name as the Writer and Des’ree as Co-writer. Dag! That is foul :noway:

  30.
I did think it was kinda messed up that she put her name as the Writer and Des’ree as Co-writer. Dag! That is foul

    :noway:
She did? How do you know? I want to see that.

  31. MadameZenobia, I have to agree with your post because it’s funny some of the ladies that i worked with made the same observation. How creepy is that Deena/Diana/Beyonce 1st: both in successful girl groups, 2nd:Daddy Knowles/Barry Gordy management had a close relationship, she did say she wants to be an icon like Diana Ross. You can’t forget Kelly/ Mary Wilson if I’m wrong please forgive me ankia lee character portrayal from were the two original member’s for awhile both groups ran threw different members. Please forgive if i have gotten the lady name wrong.

OH My god How Morbid is that.

  32. Dangerously In Love sold 4 million in the US. I am assuming you are referring to the States side figures as the 2.5 million is the States sales.

And actually in the months it has been released it has outsold DIL in the months it came out.

Fact checking is fun. Trust me.

  33. I just want to apoligize for my snarkiness. The initial Kelly article got me a bit heated. The site is good and if you ever need any Destiny’s Child informtaion hit me up 😆

Oh yeah and i’m not bi-polar i swear. I read the original Kelly article and jumped the gun and posted an immature comment.

  34. If they hadn’t pulled the album, Des’ree and her co-writer would be entitled to royalties from all perpetual sales of the B’Day deluxe album–much more than $150,000 in the long run. Des’ree was smart, but she didn’t count on the avariciousness of the Knowles clan.

  35. :lol2: I AM SO GLAD THAT SOME ONE HAS FINALLY CAUGHT UP WITH THE KNOWLES FAMILY, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. BEYONCE DESERVES THIS BECAUSE SHE IS TOO GREEDY FOR THE LIME LIGHT. THE ALBUM WAS NOT DOING WHAT THEY EXPECTED ANYWAY, IT IS FLOPPING, AND THIS IS THE MAIN REASON WHY SHE DID A RE-RELEASE BECAUSE THE FIRST ALBUM WAS GARBAGE, SO IT WILL NOT MATTER ABOUT HER PULLING THE ALBUM, IT WAS NOT DOING WELL SALE WISE. BEYONCE HAS STOLEN FROM SO MANY PEOPLE. JANET JACKSON NEEDS TO SUE HER FOR STEALING EVERY THING THAT JANET HAS EVER DONE, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS NOW PEOPLE KNOW FOR A FACT THAT BEYONCE CAN NOT WRITE, AND DOES NOT WRITE HER OWN MATERIAL. GOOD FOR HER, THE ALUM IS TERRIBLE ANYWAYS!!

  36. Just a few quick corrections:
    1) Beyonce’s last album sold 4.3M in the US, not 6! (Worldwide it sold around 6M)
    2) B’day sold 2.5M+ in the US, which going by music’s state today is one of the year’s bestsellers (second only to Justin’s in a way). And worldwide its approaching 4M.

  37. Let me correct your correction. SoundScan has CIL listed as having sold six million copies stateside so six million it is. Don’t like the numbers? Well write a letter of protest to the company informing them that as a crazed fanatical fan you know more than they do.

  38. Beyonc claimed to have written “Resentment” and “Irreplaceable” as well as having claimed to be a main contributor on “Listen” as has been put on blast for lying about it. She is a constant thief when it comes to music!

  39. @ Honey, I clicked the link to mediatakeout.com and saw that she put Des’ree as the co-writer and herself first.

It really is interesting to think about. You have to wonder about life imitating art imitating life, etc. But I seriously doubt the Knowles or Beyonce intended for all these comparisons to be so obvious. It’s just what it is and it is a unique parallel, indeed. You kinda have to wonder why the repeat of this? Anyway, thanks for commenting. 🙂

  41. stupidity never goes unpunished…you shouldve gotten the rights girl…haha! :lol2:

  42. I don’t think this is Beyonce’s fault. She is busy performin, recording and promoting. It was probably some interns job to see to it that all this got finalized. Artsis can’t do everything. Beyonce needs to find out who is responsible and then heads need to roll.

SHE MADE A VIDEO FOR THE SONG AIN’T NO DAMN INTERN SHOOTING A VIDEO. GET REAL!

  44. dang! you people spend some serious time on this sh*t. If it’s publicity she wants…

  45. Then your comment has helped give her just that 🙄

  46. Could this possibly be a fake lawsuite to hide the fact that the album didn’t sale good to begin with??? Things that make you go mmmmmmmm, lol.

  47. Not to add insult to injury, but I just read that she listed herself as songwriter for “Silent Night” and “Amazing Grace” on the DC Christmas album a few years ago.

I don’t know if they did a remake to those songs or sang them as they were originally written – either way I’m bewildered that her peeps would list her as songwriter for those classics. Does anyone know if this is true?

I’m absolutely *dead* after reading this comment. Are you serious? :noway: :lol2:

  49. Okay, I just did my due diligence and actually looked up the number of songs Beyonce Gisselle Knowles has credited as written/composed on the ASCAP website. Among a slew of titles I never heard of (I guess didn’t make the albums cut) she has Silent Night and Amazing Grace!

But to confirm this wasn’t just a new song with the same title, I looked up the lyrics to all of the songs on her Christmas album – yes, the lyrics are the same (except a few added lines to Silent Night as ad libs).

Dang. You know it takes some serious guts to say you wrote “Amazing Grace”! That girl has some serious confidence.

  50. Do you know how many songs Beyonce has taken credit for that she did not write?????? Most of those songs are written when she gets there and she makes changes to get her credit on them. Now some of them she really does write but you can’t show me one song that is all Beyonce. Same thing with the production thing, she may say add something but sshe didn’t do the whole track but she wouldn’t be the first to do that. Alot of stars are tired of doing all the work while producers and writer eat so the singer may say that, they are gonna sale and nobody else is saling right now so if you wanna get on this album you need to give me credit. And beyonce can do that becuas she sales records. Didy used to rip people off like that. He ripped off his own produceres, lol. he didn’t do anything that he samples, someone else did and he took the credit. in all the times you’ve seen didy on tv, haVE YOU EVER SEEN HIM PRODUCE A BEAT??????????????????????????

  51. I can’t stand this freaking retard Beyonce. She is so fake and un-original. She will never be a legend you mark my words. And to the ignorant people who like to use the word hater. No I am not a hater :noway: I just give credit where credit is due and I speak the truth. Beyonce fans are also in denial about her they defend and make up excuses for her all the time. Sometimes it is what it is. Whiney Houston fans had to learn to accept the truth about her. So Beyonce fans are going to have to accept the truth that Beyonce’s only talent is to sing and that’s on a mediocre level. She is not a real dancer nor is she a talented writer. We know she is not a taleneted writier because she is always getting sued for stealing music. This is not the first law suit and it want be the last. Beyonce is a jealous, immature, selfish, lying, hater!

Now I want to WEEP. I’m a writer and am all about giving credit where it’s due and citing appropriately, etc. This really does make me sad. 🙂 The Music industry’s accreditation practices are sad and obviously money-driven. 🙁
