When it rains Beyonce news it pours. ABC news is now reporting that singer Beyonce Knowles has gotten the go ahead and has been cast to play singer/actress Eartha Kitt in an upcoming biopic about the singer’s life: “Singer and actress Beyonce Knowles recently received the greenlight to play legendary Eartha Kitt in a biopic of the singer’s life. Her sex-kitten nighclub act with that signature throaty performance helped Kitt rise to fame. She is perhaps best known for her role as Catwoman in the 1960s “Batman” series. During her career, Kitt endured a 10-year blacklisting owing to her sharp criticism of the Vietnam War. Today, the 79-year-old singer is battling colon cancer. She told the New York Post, “I never expect anything to happen to me. “I’m the healthiest person in the world.”

I have not posted to a Beyonce board in so long because I get tired of the love/hate for this girl. But I had to respond to this one.
I have never seen a singer so desperate to be taken seriously as an actress and for an award that she does not deserve. Why can’t she just get it through her thick swollen head that she is not a natural actress and is only hired because she has a fan base that can help sell a movie. Once she is no longer the favorite and her career is on the decline (and it will happen because of over kill), these movie roles won’t come to her as easy.

I think she is desperately trying to redeem herself from the whole Dreamgirls drama. She went on every interview and tv show saying that she was born to play Deena, this was her breakout performance, she wanted to prove to the nay sayers that she could act and that she wanted to win an Oscar. I also think she can’t believe that she was upstaged by a then unknown singer who would get the praises and take home the prestigious Oscar award. Beyonce is a good performer, but acting is not her forte. She is just like Paris Hilton. She grew up with a silver spoon and doesn’t have a real story to tell. That is why she can’t get into character. She has never grown up poor, worked a regular job, did drugs or struggled. Jennifer Hudson is no Angela Bassett, but she could relate to her character as Effie because at one time she was a size 24 and had doors slammed in her face because of her size.

Most bloggers do indeed give their opinions and definitely when it comes to Beyonce. I rarely comment because I just don’t have the time. But the fact still remains that in my opinion quality acting is being put on the back burner in the name of getting Beyonce’s name attached to a project.
When they cast for What’s Love Got To Do With It, they didn’t look on the r n’ b charts, they sought out a real actress and settled on Angele Bassett who didn’t look a damn thing like Tina but she could act her behind off and easily learned the dance routines to capture the essence of Tina of stage.
This is what these ppl casting today should be doing but instead of that, they go for name recognition first and great acting be damned. Were Tina’s bipoic being cast today, Beyonce would get that role and turn in a mediocre acting performance. Angela covered both aspects, acting and performing- and that’s why she got a Oscar nod.

Overexposure is not a good thing. I understand she is trying to do her thing until she decides to give her husband the baby he desperately wants according to some websites, but she needs to understand that she cannot do everything all the time. You don’t want to put too much pressure on yourself and you are not able to handle it. Then, yiu have a breakdown.
I wish her continued success and hope she makes the best decisions for herself and that she stay humble like she tries to appear that she is. Whethere she is or not, I don’t know.
I wish Sista Eartha a speedy recovery. As much as I love Eartha and her story, I guess I will have to pass on this movie. I think I would get more enjoyment out of PBS special, like American Masters rather than some poorly scripted movie. This Beyonce flick will not due her justice. :stop: :noway:

‘If IWas A Boy’ is a solid single. She uses her vocals effectively. Nevertheless, I was expecting more for a FIRST single. She gave more on ‘Forever To Bleed’ & ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ [The previous leaks]. As a result, she ellevated my expectation. I prefer them as a 1st first singles over IIWAB & SL. These two can play filers on the reccord.
As I mention before, I hate Single Ladies with a passion. Although it follows GMB’s trend. I enjoy GMB more. Therefore, it is a step back. B, you have better new songs. Why did you choose these two over them? Since things are already in action, I hope she at least includes these two favorite numbers in the reccord.

I was not going to comment but I will. I think Bey already knows she is not the greatest actress in the world but she takes on roles that involves because that’s her niche. She said that herself and because of this, this helps her sound evolve and mature when she does movies.
I agree with Snijana. I like the fact that she is willing to improve her craft. People don’t like it, then don’t watch the movie but I have no problem with it. If they want to offer her roles and if they are good roles, then by all means she should take them.

Snijana, I know what you about SL being similar to GMB but I feel it is more of a progression from GMB. I mean, yeah she is in the club but she is basically saying, “look you took me for granted. I am having fun doing me and you’re jealous. You should have wifed me from the door and we would have not in this situation in the first place.” That’s real. Plus since it is a club song, it is not going overly deep in the first place. I love both songs for different reasons.
But Stephanie P, I don’t think she cares if she is typecasted. She herself said that musical roles are her niche. Meaning that’s what she wants to do. She is a musician at heart and I believe she sees it as another way to grow in that way. I will not argue over the quality of acting in DGs because it has been over 2 years and there is no need to rehash this topic. I do understand people saying she should allow “real actresses” to do movies, but if she is going to take on this parts then why not her? Especially since that will translate into great music when she does her album because that is more build into what she wants to bring to the table as an artist.
What kills me about Beyonce’s acting career is that she’s repeatedly made it known that she’s simply in this to win an Oscar. That is suc h an insult to the acting profession not to mention to acting professionals. She reduced an form of expression to its rewards and benefits. Now I (or anyone else for that matter) am not one to judge someone’s reason(s) for doing anything but she (and/or her PR people) clearly wasn’t thinking when she decided to go public with that statement. It’s almost like saying I want to be a teacher so that I can win the “Teacher of the Year” award or I want to be a doctor so that I can receive the most prestigious medical accolade. Sure this are things that almost anyone would want but making it known that this is your top priority totally undermines the profession.
Furthermore, what makes Beyonce such a BRILLIANT performer/singer is exactly what makes her a horrible actress. That is, her flamboyance and exaggeration. Subtlty* is the root of all good acting. Problem is, Beyonce doesn’t have a subtle bone in her body. This works for her singing career but it’s ruining her acting. She’s way too animated.

I like Single Ladies. It’s cute. If I were boy– it’s obvious that she has to go in a new direction in order to compete with her counterparts and like it or not, Rihanna really is competition for Beyonce (at least in terms of the hits she cranks out). Bee is a cross over but Rihanna might be an even bigger one.

She started to learn performing professionally very young and she’s been at it eversince. On the other end, acting is relatively new to her, so let her do her thing. You don’t have to support her.

Not sure about her supposed casting for the strong and complex Eartha Kitt. Tisha Campbell (Martin Lawrence show/Lil Shop of Horrors) or Thandie Newton (Crash) seem to be more reasonable thespians who could handle that accent and attitude.
Who knows…she may surprise us by doing a stellar job as the raunchy Ms. Etta James.

If they were just looking for a popular singer for this role then the reality of it is it should have been between Keisha Cole and Rhianna because they both have an Eartha kind of vibe. Kanyade, I remember an interview a while back of Bey saying that musicals and musical roles are her niche. So I think she does the acting as a muse for more growth musically. Let’s face it, Bey loves music and performing. Those are her first love. So anything that helps her to improve in that area, she will do. So that’s why I don’t really have a problem with her acting. We know she is not Angela or Thandie or Gabrielle as an actress, but I know that going in so it is all good from that standpoint.
Beyonce should do musicals. She needs to go to Broadway and do her thing. That way, she can have the best of both worlds. She is not a great actress, she just does not have the “it” factor onscreen. Onstage is a different story. They really should have gone with someone else for this role.
Beyonce is a great performer and singer…however her acting is subpar. She can act just like the average joe but when it comes to method acting that is a whole another ballgame. I hope she is able to pull off the Etta James Biopic. As for playing Eartha Kitt I don’t see it. There are too many black actresses who are more qualified to play that role. Theater suits her over-the-top onstage personality and doesn’t require the subtle and natural interaction that film requires. She can shoot for a TONY AWARD instead of an Oscar. She has a much better chance at getting a Tony Award for theater because right now it would be an insult to say Beyonce and Oscar in the same sentence. Theater will actually help her to better prepare for the big screen, and she will probably improve if she does this.
