Beyoncé Tops The Weekend Box Office

posted by Sista on April 26th, 2009 at 4:28 pm

Beyonce Originally estimated to take in about 17 millions dollars during it’s opening weekend, Obsessed, the new moving starring Beyonce, surpassed all expectations and instead grossed a whopping 28.5 million dollars. Despite so-so reviews the film actually set a record- taking in more money than any other film during the last weekend in April. According to reports, this is generally a poor time to release movies as the following weekend is the start of the summer blockbuster season. However, a rep for Screen Gems, the company that released the film, said their film hit the mark because it was aimed a crowd generally ignored at the box office this time of year- young women.

Screen Gems estimates that Obsessed attracted a largely female crowd (58%) and that the overall audience was under the age of 25. They also expect the film to hold its own over the next few weeks as the summer blockbusters start to be released.

And what was Beyonce doing while her film was enchanting crowds across the country? She was spotted out with hubby Jay-Z at The Waverly Inn.

    Congrats to Mrs.Knowles-Carter

  2. Congrats on the success, but please take some damn acting lessons.

  3. Congratulations chicka :hifive:

  4. This is a must see. I have never been a fan of Beyonces acting, but I was excited about this after seeing the preview… off to check out critic reviews.

  5. Please baby dont do it

I saw the movie opening day. I really enjoyed the movie. I love the fighting scene escpecially. Everybody in the theater was rooting for Beyonce to kick the white girl’s ***. Congrats Beyonce, oh and the pictures with her and Jay are too cute.

  6. it was one of those “fun” movies, i liked it great that they made more than expected you can tell in the movie that she was working on her voice and her acting. her voice i believe is what makes her sometimes unbelieveable, and i can understand how it would be hard for her to change that in a movie its harder for some than others but she did get better, practice makes perfect… people ace test by studying its usually not given without learning it first

  7. congrats to them , but i don’t see how that movie made that much money . it was horrible IMO. the fight scene was the only good part of the movie . definitely a made for tv type movie .

    * i’ll just sit back and wait for the hater chants *

  8. Much congratulations to Miss Beyonce…she definitely deserved it cuz that movie was the business…I was really pleasantly surprised as Bey’s acting skills…she really stepping it up. She deserves all the praise she’s getting cuz she really worked hard to get to this point…so once again, congrats.

  9. Saw the movie today and it was really good, I’m glad that BEyonce has really improved on her acting. And i’m also surprised that theres no haters up her yet. I guess when Beyonce surpasses their expectations what can they say!

  10. Keepin It Real

These must have been guys that like to stare at Beyonce or women that like to stare at Idris. Either way, I will continue to use my money for quality entertainment. LOL! :noway: Hey JHud, bring your concert my way!

  11. I didn’t go see it. Will rent it, but must commend them on breakin’ such a high mark for opening weekend. No hate here.

    She and Jay look cute.

    :brownsista:

  12. @ Keepin’ It Real,

We DO like our ‘drama’ (re: anything by Tyler Perry, catfightin, doggin’ our men, etc. or films like this one). There IS entertainment in it, I just wish our other features would garner as much support. Features like dramas, documentaries, dramas, ’smart’ comedies, ’smart’ romantic comedies, etc.

And before the stans jump me…NO HATE HERE, so please don’t call me that word. :brownsista:

  13. There is one person that filled those seats and his name is not Beyonce. Let’s keep it real here that was Mr. Idris Elba. That is the reason this movie was number one. They could have had any two ladies playing that part and he would have filled those seats.

  14. i agree with bee. idris looked yummy in this movie . i could have watched him and only him the whole movie with no dialog .

  15. Please baby dont do it

Oh please, I went to the movie because I wanted to see it. While I love Idris, half them people in the theater still trying to find out who Idris Elba is, so no he is not the “main” reason people wanted to see the movie. Stop trying to discredit, give it up already.

  16. Blame it on tha Rain

The production company was riding on the name BEYONCE to sell the movie & it did. That was one of the reasons the movie was not reveiwed 1st. B/c the production team wanted that name to sell it & didn’t want the harsh critcisms to get in the way. Plus the reading also states that the audience was largely under the age 25, which is where a large number of Beyonce fans fall. With the way ppl go @ it for her, I think everyone should have known that the numbers would be big. But that still doesn’t stop the fact that the girl can’t act, sorry. And the trailers proved that imo. A fun movie or not, I need some decent acting. Either way congrats to her, but I’ll be waiting for it to show up on Showtime.

  17. I guess when Beyonce surpasses their expectations what can they say!

You are ridiculous NOW people are gonna come and say how your chick’s acting suck -ss and all that ish and you gon have your little feelings hurt, Stans are so dumb oh my god idiots , we all know the reason why the movie was successful black chick kicking the white chick trying to take her man Enough said i gave my congratulations and wasn’t even gon stay up in here but stans always have to do some extra work to get on people’ s nerves!

  18. the stans must have went to see this mediocre lifetime movie..after watching the BL the only good scenes were the ones in the commercials…dam right IMO that flick was only worth $5 and after watching I even want that back!

  19. Phineinphilly,

If the only reason this movie succeeded was because of the “stans,” then there sure as hell are a lot of them! You betta recognize.

  20. Why hasnt she sold this many albums in America? Beyonce as only sold 2 million copies of I Am… in America and Obsessed grossed 28 million, so were kids there to watch IDris and Ali?

  21. I KNOW THATS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hifive: Congrats Beyonce I KNEW this would be a HIT movie!!! :)

FOR THE HATERS…I TOLD YOU SO…… I TOLD YOU SO…………… I TOLD YOU SO………… I TOLD YOU SO……….I TOOOOLLLDDDDDDD YOOOOOUUUUUU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! This fun, popcorn sexy thriller was worth all my $9… THIS MOVIE DID BETTER THEN “NOTORIOUS” DID WHEN IT CAME OUT

  22. i saw the movie. it was great for what it was and everyone in the theater had a wonderful time. there was a lot of talking back to the screen, a lot of laughter and a lot of hate for ali whenever she would come on screen. there were some funny lines in the movie and i wasn’t surprised it made so much opening weekend b/c the theater was packed. i read a report saying women under 25 saw it the most followed by women over 25 (clearly, it was aimed towards women). the men in the theater were just horny folks who were just there to w/their women or simply to see bee. when ali kicked bee in the mouth, some man yelled, no not her face :lol2: all in all, i’m glad i saw it because it was a much needed diversion for me. the movie could have surpassed this amount if they had opened it in more theaters, but oh well. great popcorn flick :hifive:

  23. @kenny,

um, albums are counted by the COPIES you sell, movies are counted by the dollar amount each ticket sells for. the movie was a success, what did her album sales (which are stellar) have to do with anything? i’m sure you know movies make way more money that cds which is why some studios spend a 100mil to produce a film because they know they are going to get it back? albums don’t even cost 1/10 of that

  24. The production company was riding on the name BEYONCE to sell the movie & it did.

@Blame It on the Rain :iagree:
Nobody doubted that Beyonce would fill the seats. That is what she was hired to do and she did her job. The acting on the other hand, may be questionable..

Her and hubby do look cute in the pictures.

  25. AND ONCE AGAIN SHE SHUTS HER HATERS DOWN..U GO BEY!

  26. I love seeing Bey & Jay be affectionate and playful w/ each other. It tickles me how their enjoyment of one another is putting a smile on my face- hmmm… *shrug*.

Who would’ve thought… a film that was once being consider to go straight to dvd did much better than expected?! Good for them! My lil’ sis saw it and enjoyed it immensely to her own surprise. I may check it out as a matinee sometime this week. I have to see The Soloist first.

  27. Bey hasn’t shut any haters down wiht her high school acting. She has star power and folks love to see chicks fight.. plain and simple… The movie was lame saw it free and thank God I hate wasting money..

  28. People act like Beyonce broke “Lord of the Rings” or “Independence Day” records! The same 2 million people under the age of 25 who purchased her I Am album are the same 2 million that saw the movie. Do the math, the movie made 28 million which means about 1.5-2 million saw the movie….her die hard fans. Good for her that she made #1 but lets be honest she was not competing against a major movie, and she is a pop star starring in a PG13 movie…. I noticed Obsessed didnt release next week when Blockbuster movie season kicks off.
Thanks for correcting me woohoo! I did have my #’s wrong they are calculated differently, which turns out she still made the same amount for the movie as she did for her latest album in America. Beyonce has die hard fans, she is not gaining any news ones…..and the fans have the nerve to brag about them giving her money :loser:.

  29. well if they were counting on the name BEYONCE then obviously this is a bad chick! also if thats the case then how come CR didnt do so well?

@wohoo yes it was funny seeing people talk back to the screen, when bey kicked him out and he asked if they could go out to dinner the movie got quiet and this old lady in front of me screamed “i will!” and everyone bust out laughing it was a good time and the song at the end was perfect…everyone was singing along the whole way out

  30. @kenny how do you know she isnt gaining any new fans? this album as sold more copies in the US ALONE then any of her previous albums in this amout of time after its released and how come she had a great increase in her audience of her tour when she performed in canada than last time, now… people can buy multiple cds but people cant multiply to feel concert seats so you do the math… also that 2 million sold albums consist of the album being released for a few months while this movie has only been out for three days…again, you do the math…thanks

  31. I saw it on bootleg, and it was average to me. It was like a LifeTime movie. I think Idris and Ali did a great job. Its just some of the lines Bey had to say were not believeable to me. ” Just try me *****” I didn’t believe it. I dont know, but good for her. they look cute awwwwww.

  32. Don’t hate, just say congrats!

    Whether you went or not!!!

  33. Congratulations on the success at the box office.

But Bey’s acting was pretty bad. I mean she did a decent job in Cadilac Records and Dreamgirls – but this was just plain Razzie time acting.

  34. I saw 35 mins of the feature and I could not stomach anymore. It was too funny watching her. She is Beyonce – singer and entertainer – I can’t seperate the two – and she can’t either.

  35. @mario

yes, people did indeed have a great time. when he said breath b1tch, everyone lost it. when she said try me b1tch and i’ll wipe the floor with your skinny a$$, people yelled out and started clapping. they clapped at the end of the movie and it was a great time.

i don’t know what kenny is talking about. you know she always has to say something negative. if bee was not gaining new fans, especially around the world, why did she sell out more shows in europe than she did the entire last tour? she went from doing 2 shows in the uk to doing 8 (all of them selling out) and from doing 2 shows in ireland to doing 4 or 6 (all of which has sold out). it took a little over a month to sell out msg the last tour and she sold it out in one day (added a second date). the seats left in DC are horrible. i can’t even get tickets to go because they only have seats left in sec 400. i believe the philly, atlanta and chicago shows are almost sold out as well. if that ain’t gaining new fans, then i don’t know what is.

  36. Well, I just made the Knowles-Carters even richer by taking my sister and daughter to see the movie yesterday (dammit!! lol). I’ll have to honestly admit that the movie was pretty good…it had flavor. Beyonce’s acting was pretty mediocre in the beginning, or right before the drama (female cat-fighting) began, but she did okay in the end.

I do want my $25.50 back considering that this movie is available on bootleg…. .

  37. yeah and nyc sld out as soon as they went on sale tot he gereal public so they hadd to add another nyc date the next day and that is almost sold out, and we have two months before that concert, i havent checked in the past few days but that second show they added might be sold out by now as well :hifive:

  38. @nesh nesh :lol2: GIRL YOU AINT RIGHT  you know how we do.. :bag:

im trying to get the bootleg myself because there was some parts that i wish i could have rewind while i was at the movies…some that were just that funny and some because people were laughing so load i couldnt hear what the movie was saying

  39. yes i’m so happy it went #1! the movie was so good, and bey’s acting has deifintely improved, you cannot lie! i loved the fight scene, and the movie as a whole was awesome. So glad idris did not let that trick get to him. I’m going to see it again this week with my hubby.

congradulations bey, of course the haters will have their own opinions why it went #1 but who cares! great job

oh and the theatre i was in had mainly black people yes, but it had men and women of all different ages, yes even some as old as your mom or grandma, so please stop trying to discredit. Everyone in the theatre was cheering beyonce on (accept when she kicked him out), so no everyone does not have a personal problem with beyonce like some of you do. i swear some of you have a personal vendetta against beyonce. get over it!

  40. @wohoo

that’s the part everyone started cracking up on at the movies.

    “breathe b!tch!”
    lmao!

  41. I went to see american voilet it was sooooo good. I seen it when i was in california. That a movie everyone should support if it a theatre near you.
@mario i know you was bugging in the movie theatre lol. I did not see it i wait until i see it on video or cable. I just chill out and enjoy the weather.
    Hello to Voice and Kanyade.

  42. I knew it would do well..it had no competition..although I must admit I thought Fighting would do better..only because the lead is that white guy from all those Step Up films, I thought more teenagers would go see that one. But women audiences are not to be underestimated, especially when it comes to “chick” flicks.

However, at the same time the film didn’t do that well. It cost over 20 million to make, so really it just made back it’s budgets and a little more profit. The film most likely will fall drastically once Wolverine comes out and then the Terminator.

But it will probably pick up more sells on dvd.

  43. why are people so giddy this film did well? it’s not like ya’ll getting a share of the profits! lol..

  44. @lady whats up girl :hifive: its hot down here in NC it was like in the 90s this past weekend, that humidity was making my hair fall! (kidding) lol

  45. @Mario you is a messsss for real. :hifive:

  46. I’m def going to see this (whenever the bootleg guy at the flea market gets a good copy.)

  47. Congrats to her. I didn’t see it, probably won’t, but I was still gunning for her. Congrats Bey! :hifive:

  48.  Go beyonce!! I went to see the movie and it was really good. I was really surprised!!

Her acting is getting better and better!!

    #1 movie this week
SOLD OUT CONCERT IN CROATIA (22,000 PEOPLE)
#3 UK ALBUM THIS WEEK (FROM BEING #7)

AND A LOVING HUSBAND, FAMILY AND FANS THAT SUPPORT HER!!

SHE MUST BE THE HAPPIEST WOMAN ALIVE RIGHT NOW!! SHE IS KILLING IT!!

  49. How cute do the Carters look cuddling in public..lol!

  50. AND THE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT ALBUM SELLS!! SHE IS ALMOST 4 MILLION WORLD WIDE! IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS!

  51. @Mario

I know she is not gaining new fans because she started with a large fanbase with DC and now her albums sales are declining with each album. DIL was the best album and the highest selling for her. I Am peak is over, I dont think it will break more than BDay. The album has sold 2 million copies in America per her wiki page, and for what you fans pump her up to be she should be at at least be selling 7 million 5 months later. I did do the math and the math states if 2 million (fans) movie goers attended Obsessed in a weekend then why did it take her 4 months just to sell 2 million (albums) in America? Why didnt those fans rush out to purchase the album on release day or week? The same fans are re investing in her not any new ones.

  52. I wonder why jay and bey look so happy together .

  53. @woohoo
If I were negative you should have just skipped my comment instead of responding.
Just because I dont kiss her behind doesnt make me a negative person, everything I stated are facts. No one said Beyonce is ugly or cant act I stated that she has a strong fanbase of 2 million that went to see the movie.
To answer your question Beyonce has sold about 800k copies of I Am in the UK, those are her fans buying concert tickets not new ones . There is no arena that holds almost a million people so she has to accommodate her 800k fans by adding more dates. Beyonce is not playing stadiums that holds 38k or more she is doing arenas and taking up most of the space with her stage….how many tickets were actually sold? Just because an Arena holds 20k doesnt mean that many tickets were sold, you have to take into account how many seats will the stage take up, is it standing or seating, and how many tickets were given away….

  54. @ Mario

Oooooo, she done did it now. She be Queen of the World! And no “hate” from me (for the more immature posters – you know who are).

Now if we could only show some love and support more thought-provoking black fare like American Violet and let Hollywood know that we are more than one dimensional in our tastes aside from this and the usual yearly Tyler Perry joint.

(Damn, I miss film makers like Spike Lee and Charles Burnett)

It’s a shame that we don’t support actresses like Alfre Woodard, who is our version of Meryl Streep IMO. But hey – there’s always Precious to look forward to. I hear that Mariah is supposed to burn it up, not to mention the early Oscar buzz for Mo’Nique.

  55. @banjiboi i do know if you seen it but american violet was soo good. I can not believe that man is still da down there. Yes im going to se precious that look sooooo good. When does that movie come out.

  56. @lady:

TRUE STORY: Last night, I was invited by my crew, which inlcuded two diehard Beyonce fans by the way, to see Obssessed at the Magic Johnson up in Harlem, but at the last minute, they all decided to see American Violet. I couldn’t go cause I had to get home. Glad you gave it some much-needed love. There’s also a small movie called Sugar http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809922998/info that needs support as well.

But I will see AV this week. As for Precious, I hear there is no release date as of yet because of some struggles with studio distribution. If anybody eles has any info, please post.

  57. @ Ms. Tanya:
We have some blockheads who say that Jay-Z and Beyonce don’t ever show any affection towards eachother. :lol2: Well, I hope that they’re taking a good, long look at the pictures above. They look like they’re really enjoying themselves.
    @ banjiboi:
    Spike Lee… Yes!
    Charles Burnett… Yes!
I would also like to see another movie by John Singleton.

  58. this was a good movie! point blank, beyonce did her thang!
all of the actors were really good. beyonce kills me with the country accent can’t stop laughing :lol2:

  59. Beyonce the movie was great! Not only do you get credit for starring in the movie, but a producer credit as well. Smart move. I applaude your business sense!

  60. kenny,

all i know is that the cd has sold way more in 5months than b’day has sold in 2years in the uk (also sold more in the states than b’day at this point), which means that the old fans are not the only ones buying that cd. i really don’t understand what the stage has to do with anything because 22,000 showed up to her show in croatia last night and that’s the amount the arena holds. she did 2 shows the last tour in the uk because there wasn’t the big demand like there is now. the place holds 13k which is the reason she’s doing the 8 shows. clearly, if it’s just the same old fans buying the tickets, she would be only doing the two shows like she did last time, right? 1 show in dublin last tour, but b/c of high demand this time around, 4 shows. the album has stayed on the charts in ireland longer than b’day and DIL meaning that once again, it’s not only old fans.

  61. @banjiboi Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire

Release Date: November 6, 2009 (limited; expands: Nov. 13; expands: Nov. 20)
    Studio: Lionsgate
We have to wait awhile for this movie to come out. You see that Tyler Perry and Oprah.

  62. @lady

    Thanks!

    @ Smooth Thug

True dat! And let’s not forget these other black directors:

Carl Franklin – One False Move
Antoine Fuqua – Training Day, Shooter
Julie Dash – Daughters of the Dust
    Kasi Lemmons – Eve’s Bayou

Some of these film makers are still directing or producing smalland large films that could use our support.

  63. Someone who actually knows music

    @mario

thanks, you covered all the bases, i don’t have to say a thing.

  64. congrats stans on your great achievement, you are the only people i know who keep records of anything beyonce does,i wonder if you keep track of your financial status and bills like you do for her,do you have goals in life, you dnt only record beyoncez stats ,are you number 1 in your life like she is…you are such an amazing group of people and i realy congratulate you on your latest achievement, you realy know how to support trash!!!somebody said jayz must be reading the blogs, now they are putting a show for us…….she is not improving at all,i cnt believe people have lowered their standards and settle for less, acting is a respected craft, she looks like an overaged child in this movie,Idris looks like her daddy and the fight not convincing and shud learn to open her mouth when she speaks, she didnt look like a woman or a wife at all, just trash and watched it for free like always, watching it once was enough….i known the stans will come out firing her bank balance, she is getting paper yes but it will never give her innerpeace and confidence….confident people know how to take a pause and if God is your source of income, you will never be scared to take a break…..bcoz they dnt have true love now they are trying to boast, love is never boastful,if it is love they shud let it just ooze on its own and pictures dnt lie, their business arrangement is dysfunctional.

  65. :iagree: lizz

  66. lmao, @lizz was the essay about how much you hate her really necessary?

  67. Beyonce fans, let’s stop bragging about this. It’s not cool to do. I am happy for Beyonce, but not so she could “prove haters wrong” but because it is great to see a sista shine. She broke a record, that’s awesome and the fact that she’s an executive producer is even better. Shows she’s a great businesswomen as well as an entertainer.

Beyonce criticizers, stop downplaying the accomplishment. It shows how bias and unobjective you are. I saw peeps compare Obsessed to Independence Day and Lord of the Rings. You do know that those movies are big budget movies and that they were released during the Summer Months. That’s when the crowds for movie goers grow. They are supposed to be “block-busters”. They have big budgets. What Obsessed did was great because they made profit in one weekend, it wasn’t release to every theater and she did this. This is outstanding. It’s a shame what this blog has become. You can’t even celebrate an accomplishment by a sista in her field without the agendas.

  68. Woooooooooooh Beyonce doing her thangg!!!!

Honestly the movie was good and enjoyable!!

Yeah all the haters, u can talk!
But it ain’t gonna affect B. Coz she is soo successful atm!

    Succesful film!
    Successful album!
    Tours selling out!

  69. Another thing, Stephanie made a salient point about the movie marketing to young women. Well, that should give movie producers thoughts to do the same. It was smart for Bey and the executive producers to market it this way. This is a great case of getting more with less. Kudos to them.

  70. @mrs jones my essay is nothing compared to the thesis you keep on publishing about your love of record mantaining for music world……still congratulations mrs jones i can see you jumping around and popping champaigne…….i have to give thumbs up to beyonce and matthew knowles for this, they realy understand how gullible their fanbase is,cnt take that away from them…….if i’m a hater so be it coz i hate that authentic art is gone and we have settled for anything, activist who stand up for change for truth are called haters by big companies and consumers who dnt want to be bothered, they hater label is very broad …..well they got the figures thats what is always about,do you have your own figures mrs jones?

  71. lizz : Number one in their lives,Please NObody secure in themselves can constantly be obsessed with another woman’s accomplishments, don’t you know by now that those morons live their lives trough her? Most are lost and confuse and i will forever  to beyonce for exploiting the classlessness and idiocraty among her fan base, ill forever respect her for building an empire on people that have nothing else to do but sit and stare at her wishfully thinking they could be like that, Go getters don’ t have the time of a day to praise beyonce, they actually can see trough her hustle but those stans? Please :iagree: with what you said as usual but again all they can do is call you a hater, I wonder how hard real actresses laugh at beyonce, and i wonder how hollywood laugh at black chicks making a movie number one because it’ s about a black girl beating up a white one, showing our insecurities in front of those women…Sad day for us , glorious day for beyonce, keep making that money like the stans says but if it can’ t make you an immortal you need to look deep inside yourself mama ;)

  72. Too Fast too furious was out It topped that isn’t that a blockbuster movie?

  73. @lizz
no i actually don’t, i don’t research beyonce, nor am i an obsessed fan/stan i admire her, and i hope to acheive at least half of what she has with my OWN career, that’s why I like her. thanx

  74. Wow, I really do hope that the bloggers with TMI are getting paid. They got more information on her than can be found in biographies. Hope MK is not broke, after paying all those millions.

  75. @Curtis I disagree with you completely. This movie should not have been marketed to the 13 year old crowd. We have got to start standing for somethng. We market this extremely adult subject matter to our young children and then we turn around and wonder why they are screwing at thirteen. This should have been a Rated R picture just as her co-star has said. And another thing this movie is not all about Beyonce. There are other actors in this movie who has fans and they also bring people to the theaters. Idris Alba is nothing to sneeze at and he has developed his craft. Ali Lauder is also an exceptional actress on a television series with a cult following. It’s not all about Beyonce all the time. That is why she couldn’t get anything for dream girls because her management tried to make that movie all about her and she wasn’t even the star of that movie. For you younguns I don’t know if you know this but Eddie Murphy was the big star in that movie.

But back to my point we have got to stop allowing these people to market all this crapt to young children.

  76. mrsjones ROTFL :lol2: coming from a chick that goes to EVERY BLOG harassing people over beyonce BROWN SISTA IS THE ONLY blog where i post almost daily other than that i might post on necole botchie once or twice but thats is Mr jones is EVERY WHERE cl necole botchie bossip and thats as far as I know she even wanted to “whup” me but she know better than getting shot looool girl you’ re obsessed SHAT UP

    bEE :hifive:

  77. Stephanie could you post beyonce’ s interview on larry king the one where she gives very intelligent answers when asked about General Issues

  78. Bee, the things you are saying are the kind of stuff that bewilders my mind. The things I said has nothing to do what you are saying. Why are you going on a tangent that’s irrevelant to what I said? All I said that I am happy with her success on this film, while defending why it is a success and you take it to another direction just to criticize and downgrade Beyonce. BTW, the only reason why I mentioned her because this is BROWNSISTA, a blog about sistas doing their thing. Why do many in here have a hard time doing it? Then when it is done, it is done in sarcasm. It’s sad. Really is.

  79. So you can criticize her@ Voice and analyze everything she said? Talk about how “inarticulate” she is and criticize her accent?

  80. BTW, if it was Taraji who was the actress in the movie with the same plot and it went #1, would any have the same criticisms that you are giving in here? The double standard on this board is pathetic. Entirely pathetic.

  81. LOL…. I must admit Beyonce on Larry King was pretty good minus the political questions :bag: ….we all know Bey doesnt know much about things like that , but there are A LOT of celebrities who dont either. Either way she’s a woman about her MONEY, she has big POWER and she gets mad RESPECT

  82. Curtis  Oh I will do no such things,
Beyonce if i believe her people is the richest best most talented and whatever she is perfect , she is also very educated and articulate what are you talking about?

  83. if it was Taraji who was the actress in the movie with the same plot and it went #1, would any have the same criticisms that you are giving in here?

Your comparison is pathetic parce que if it was taraji it would have been played better for sure, so that’ s one issue down,BUT the stereotype will stay the same , Just like “not easily broken, and i love taraji but the whole lets get the white chick that stole/wanna steal/Will steal my man” movement is Idiotic and pitiful, and it does not help our already tarnished image However See the difference between beyonce and EVERYONE ELSE is we can criticize and give our two cents about people and not worry about the two or three people mad at it throwing the word haters When it comes to bey we have people who post under different names, people who dont have shat to do, People who need to leave Betsa and some other psychos ready to tell us how many millions she has in the bank AS IF it has anything to do with the situation.. and that is where the real issue is, Now let me ask you all minus you because you seem to be above the influence unless i’ m mistaking but let’ s say if it was rihanna playing sharon? will the compliments still be the same? Beyonce’ s fans double standars are the most pathetic of the bunch

sorry for the typos and misspelling ima go take care of my nieces ill brb

  84. Stop the sarcasm, Voice. You know what I am talking about. You live to overanalyze the woman as many that frequent this board. My taraji henson point was a great point because it has everything to do with the fact that people are not objective in their points about Beyonce, which means even when they have “decent” points, it gets lost because their motives aren’t in the right place. Like I said, many of you live to overanalyze her.

Another thing, I never ever attack Robyn so don’t group me with Beyonce fans who do. I don’t like it either. I like to see all sistas doing great things in or out of entertainment. I have always said that it is hard for any sister to make it in a world that is male-dominated. That’s how I am and even if I don’t like the delivery of their craft, I don’t go from thread to thread that is about them just to criticize or downplay what they do. You criticize the “stans”, posters like you provoke them. So stop it.

  85. Another thing, Stephanie made a salient point about the movie marketing to young women. Well, that should give movie producers thoughts to do the same. It was smart for Bey and the executive producers to market it this way. This is a great case of getting more with less. Kudos to them.

@ Curtis I responded to exactly what you said when you said that marketing the movie to young women should give producers thoughts to do the same. It was not smart to market this movie to extremely young women. At 13 you are not even a young woman you are a girl. So that is what I was talking about. It is very sad that this movie with this adult content was marketed to young girls. As I stated before that movie should have been Rated R. It’s not just this movie, but, it’s a lot of movies that are marketed to children that should not be. You people I can’t even call you fans because it’s beyond that for a lot of you think everything is about her so you think a lot of times when people are making comments on this thread you always think it’s about her. It is a bad thing that they went and changed the rating of this movie and began to really advertise this movie in genres that they knew young girls would be watching. I think that is sick. That was done on purpose and I don’t like that.

So please don’t slit your wrist or do anything to yourself because you think someone is speaking about your God. I do pray for all of you because when you meet your maker you are going to have to answer for all of this worshipping of this person. And if you all don’t think it’s worshipping look it up in the dictionary. I pray for all of you because you all and you know who you are are truly lost. Stop idolizing this woman. She is just a human being and she bleeds just like everyone else. Do you lift the Lord up or even yourself. You couldn’t because you are too busy lifting her up.

I am a huge Maxwell fan but I don’t need to know his every move and I don’t have to defend this man or say how much money he has everytime someone says something against him. That is abnormal behavior and I think you all need counseling. I think you all would actually physically assualt someone in person if they say something about this woman. This is just crazy.

  86. WHO CARES what the haters have to say. This movie went # 1 b/c it was a good/fun flick. People are taking this whole “OSCAR” thing way too far. No this movies wasnt and Oscar worth flick but it was fun and it was really good. Bey has stepped her acting game up, for this to be her 1st movie where she is not playing a singer, I think she did a really good job. EITHER WAY THIS MOVIE MADE HISTORY!! BTW:Sony/Screen Gems sent out a Twitter “tweet” on Sunday that said the $28.5 million opening weekend for their Beyonce film “Obsessed” is the second biggest opening in the studio’s history

  87. Blame it on tha Rain

    @Curtis

I don’t know what you have going on w/ the others, but I would like to answer the question you posed about if Taraji had been in the movie & it would have been #1 would ppl reacted the same. Personally I feel that if Taraji had been in “Obsessed” it would NOT have never made it to #1, let alone the theater. For one b/c the plot was so bliase(sp?) imo. There was nothing new w/ the script. If anything the movie would have prolly went str8 to dvd & would have been another Black independent film. However Taraji woulda have given a BETTER portrayal of the character. I commend Beyonce for her acheivement, but I truly believe that this movie was a huge success b/c it was a BEYONCE production. Just like everything else Beyonce touches that goes to gold whether good or not. Ppl like Taraji, but folks( Black, White, young & old) LUV them some Beyonce. You can see that by how ppl ride or die for this chic here on this site, regardless if they disrespect others right to opinion. Taraji, yes a Oscar nominee, hasn’t built a brand like Beyonce, so she (Taraji) wouldn’t have had the kind of following for this film. Beyonce is the one who sold this movie, not Idris, not Ali… but Beyonce. So I guess what I am trying to say is that there wouldn’t been any reaction, b/c the Taraji version wouldn’t have made it to the theaters. I hope my insight has been helpful :-)).

  88. Blame it on tha Rain

    Typo:

it would NOT have made IT #1*

  89. I tend to think that everybody here has a valid point.

    Beyonce can sing.
    Beyonce cannot act.
    Beyonce is overexposed.
    Beyonce is changing the game.
    Beyonce is not very educated.
    Beyonce is an astute businesswoman.
Beyonce steals other performers’ material and songs.
Beyonce’s songs tend to be ubiquitous.
Beyonce will never be respected by true artists.
Beyonce will always be respected by her true fans.
    Beyonce is rich.
    Beyonce is vapid.

Whatever. Perhaps she is all of those things. It makes for juicy reading and debate. IT’S NOT THAT DEEP. I DO believe that she reads everything that is written about her. And that she uses this in one way or another. Any performer who tells you otherwise is most likely lying. It’s what they do. Keep it real. And remember this – at the end of the day, it’s all smoke, mirrors and illusion. Those who are not enmeshed in the entertainment game will forever be outsiders. They are comprised of fans, critics and loves of the art form. Take your side. Cool. But once you take it, don’t expect to sway the opinions of the others. It won’t happen, and that’s what makes this ish fun, y’all! The “ignorant and blind” stans, the “bitter and jealous” haters, and the “smug & pseudo-intellectual” art-form-lover/critics, all scracthing and clawing at each other over a l’il Texas girl who has a distinct way of shaking her coochie and over-sanging, who just happened to take advantage of the alignment of the planets and reached for stardom. And her manipulative daddy – and believe me, if you had one looking after you like hers did, you, too would be trolling the internets in jaw-dropping fascination as total strangers waged an electronic war over your every move! Say what you will, people will talk about this child, ad nauseum, and that’s exactly what she wants – it’s what the game dictates. So just “breath b_tches” and go with it! Or not. END RANT.

  90. oops, meant I “breathe”. don’t hate on me – i haven’t seen the movie. I will Netflix it, tho’.

  91. Blame_It_On_Tha_Rain, you made great insights, and I agree with everything you say. I am not comparing Taraji to Bey as an actress. This is Taraji’s first love, whereas Bey is still getting her feet wet in this area. My point is that with many, people have double standards when it comes to Beyoncé that they would not have with other entertainers(counting Taraji because actors/actresses are entertainers). That’s why I made the qualification of she(TH) was the actress in the movie and it went #1. It was hypothetical.

But just on you, I love your posts when you do post. You’re very mature and articulate and even if I disagree with your posts, you get your post across well and that’s a fresh air. Thanks for the post.

  92. Blame it on tha Rain

    @Curtis

Thank You, I enjoy your posts as well. You & the 2 Smooths always keep open minds in your posts even if you don’t necessarily agree & that’s what it’s all about. It’s not meant for ALL of us to think alike & always agree b/c if we did how boring would that be  ? As for the Taraji/Beyonce question I knew you weren’t comparing the 2 on the level of acting. But I was just pointing out the huge impact of having the Beyonce name behind a product. If marketed right it can move mountains that may not necessarily need to be moved LOL :brownsista: .

  93. Curtis : I only read your first sentence I live to over analize the woman?
Well excuse the hell outta me for thinking that there is more to her than weave and booty
,Forgive me please i won’ t ever make that mistake again, and just put you in the box with the rest of them Ugh!

    Bee: Hey Girl
    Banjiboy: Wassup

  94. @banjiboi  You is toooo funny.
@Blame it on tha Rain i agree with you. But i think Taraji would not even taken this role anyway.
    @Curtis what up baby lol.

  95. Beyonce will never be taken seriously as an actress and she will never win an OSCAR! And she’s still not talented enough to carry a movie without another big name actor/actress playing along side of her.. I think Idris helped make this movie successful.

    :stop:

  96. umm voice, when you assume stuff you make and a$$ out of me and you. I don’t even go to necole bitchie or bossip (never even heard of that), but cl yes i do go there. It must be another the mrsjones that can’t stand, it’s kind of a common name on the net you know. making threats over the net is childish sweetie and i’m not a child. thanx

  97. Lady, Good Morning. *smile*

Bee, I didn’t realize that. I thought you were responding to my initial post. My bad. But I am not idolizing the woman. My only point is that whenever some success happens to Beyonce(and just her on this board), many try to find a way to downgrade it. I would say the same thing when it is done to Robyn(Rihanna), Brandy, Monica, Ciara, Jennifer and etc. The only time I did that was to India and it was make a point about her and more commerical artists are the same but different sides of the coin. I don’t care if you criticize Bey, she’s in the limelight and she’s going to be criticized. I am just saying, the same standards that people criticize Bey, they better have it for the others. That’s my only point.

Blame_On_Da_Rain, I hear your point and I agree. And just for the record, I personally would love to see her(Beyonce) do more exec. producer, putting her money behind movies and having other actresses get roles that they would not get from Hollywood because like you said, her brand can move mountains that other can’t. However, I do think that’s one of the reasons why she does act in movies though because unfortunely, stars sells movies.

  98. @ Voice

Yo. I’ma start callin you Voice Of Reason, cuz you be brangin it! And I’m with you in the eternal struggle to educate the kiddies on the perils of Beyonce staning!

    @ Lady
    Aw, thanks!

  99. Blame it on tha Rain

    @Curtis

Exactly LOL. I am sure you have read how I feel about Beyonce’s acting, if not, personally I don’t think she can ( act) LOL. The trailer I saw for this particular movie sealed the deal for me. The fact that several ppl said that folks were laughing in the theater doesn’t ring right w/ me. I mean if these ppl had a great time that’s wonderful, but I don’t think that Beyonce was going for the humor. I REALLY think that she was trying to step into a more dramatic role. Anyway, it’s great for one to spread their wings, but if you have tried & tried & tried to spread them in another direction & it never seems to fall right, it maybe time to look elsewhere. It’s ok, ALL of us can’t be actors/actresses, lawyers/doctors, & etc. But maybe we can produce, be a nurse, or a legal aid. Beyonce has the money & it’s obvious she loves the movies. I, like yourself thinks that she move that money & that brand BEYONCE around & start producing movies & put credible actors in them preferably up & coming Black actors b/c it’s hard for them to break out in White Hollywood. And your also right that IS why Beyonce is put into movies b/c like we have said, the star/brand of Beyonce sells.

@Lady… your right Taraji wouldn’t have taken the movie LOL. Had she done it the script & plot would have been greatly changed :brownsista:

  100. AND THE SAGA CONTINUES….. :hifive: I decided to make this the 100th comment on a 3 day old thread  Beyonce stays on ALOT of folks mind…its weird! I guess when your accomplishing so much in so little time SHE’S THE ONLY THING TO TALK ABOUT  GO BEYONCE 2009 IS YOURS!!!!!!

  101. Wow!! 100 comments!! Seriously!! This is ridiculous, move on for goodness sake!!

    Bigger issues in the world!!

This is why I go to websites and I pick out people I want to see and I don’t open posts of people I don’t want to see! It is really easy……Less stress !!

  102. :brownsista: Congratulations to you Ms. Beyonce. Your new movie Obession was fabulous. Each time I see your movies, you get better and better at your craft. You are a hell of a singer/entertainer/actress. You are very humbling and makes me proud to be an African American (woman)! Obviously you have great determination and you learn it, then you master it. Keep up the great work girlfriend. You truly brought your “A” game . Stay positive and keep your faith and it will carry you through it all. P.S. You and Jay can conquer the world!!!

    Ms. T in Texas

  103. “She wuz neeked en yo bade?”

  104. @VIRGO you are a liar ““Obsessed” is the second biggest opening in the studio’s history ” :lol2: :lol2: Well I hate to burst your bubble Wolverine grossed 35million in a single day not to mention the weekend sales have not even been calculated yet. Looks like Obsessed is going to do just like the critics suspected good the first weekend and get blown out of the water the following weeks. Oh I forgot most of Beyonce fans are poor and from the ghetto so their funds ran short they spent it all last weekend going to see the movie two and three times :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: It’s such a shame how some stans come to this site and post lies :loser: .

  105. :lol2: @ ANONYMOUS

You have proven time and time again on how foolish and stoopid you really are. Not alone are you a delusional HATER but your an idiot that cant read. CLEARLY I stated it was the 2nd biggest opening. And little do you know “OBSESSED” came in @#3 this weekend, beating out “The soloist” and “17 again”! X-MEN was expected to top the box office, I mean it was a cartoon and not its a movie, not alone to metion that this ALSO the 2nd xmen movie to date. You will never accept the fact that Beyonce is destined to be where she is today and she is taking the acting thing by STORM soon to be in the “Eartha Kitt” Bio :hifive: LMAO You’re just not gettin it. BEYONCE ROCKS…ANONYMOUS KICK ROCKS!!!!! :loser:

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING :)
    Weekend Box Office

    1) X-Men Origins: Wolverine $87 million
    2) Ghosts of Girlfriends Past $15.3 million
    3) Obsessed $12.2 million
    4) 17 Again $6.3 million
    5) Monsters Vs. Aliens $5.8 million
    6) The Soloist $5.6 million
    7) Earth $4.18 million
    8) Fighting $4.17 million
    9) Hannah Montana: The Movie $4.07 million
    10) State of Play $3.6 million

  106. AND OBSESSED IS THE 2ND BIGGEST OPENING OF SCREEN GEMS!!! Please check ya facts and then talk non-sense! again the proof is in the pudding

    http://twitter.com/SonyPictures/status/1621442557

  107. @VIRGO of course I did not bother to read your post you are still a liar :hifive: The fact of the matter is Wolverine sold a whole lot more in one day than Obsessed did in a single weekend. So I did notice you posted the movie sales my question is why? When I have already pointed out Wolverine trampled over Obsessed  . And Obsessed has been knocked to number 3 :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: . If the movie was all that it would still be number one. And 17 AGain came out the week before Obsessed and even though for this weekend it’s sales fall just below Obsessed it’s total sales are still much higher than Obsessed. People check the total sales that’s where the proof is. VIRGO you are still a :loser: double time :loser: :loser: and there is nothing you can say or do to change that. Get a life real soon while Beyonce is enjoying the money you spend on her to travel the world, pay for her maids, and butlers you should really re-consider investing some of that money in educating yourself and expanding your life. You just proved my point again most of Beyonce stans are poor, ignorant, and uneducated
