If you have been reading then site for any length of time, then you know that I am a huge fan of r&b music from the early 90’s. Groups like SWV, Brownstone, En Vogue and Jade were all a part of my upbringing and anytime I hear their music I am automatically taken back to a time most of us fondly remember- high school. Back in the early 90’s female r&b groups totally ruled the planet and what a beautiful planet it was. One of my favorite groups was Jade, and just like En Vogue, Jade was an all girl group comprised of nothing but lead singers. Each girl was beautiful and could totally hold her own on the mic. Unfortunately, also like En Vogue, they had a very short run in the music business (less than 10 years) and would eventually be replaced with the likes of 702 and the even yuckier 3LW.
We have probably seen the last days of female groups like En Vogue and Jade, but thanks to You Tube, we can remember them fondly. Check out one of my favorite videos from these sistas- Don’t Walk Away.
Yes girl back in the 90s that’s when they had real singing. I got tapes of all the girl group Envogue, TLC, SWV, Brownstone, Zhane but I could not find any tapes or cds of Jade. They were hott to my favorite song of thiers was 5,4,3,2 your time is up. These new cookie-cutter groups/artist they have now don’t have any rhythem, any tone, nothing. Now 702 did have couple hott songs they wasn’t that bad like 3LW. And Cherish songs are wack. I say the lastest decent girl group was Destiny’s Child.
:iagree: SWV, Brownstone, En Vogue and Jade were real singers!
And Danielle I’m so glad you mentioned Zhane – true talent right there!
The problem is no one is looking for talent anymore they are just looking for cute people. Back in the day they wanted you to be talented then when the videos hit they wanted you to be talented and attractive but now it is just attractive. Something else not mentioned is the quality of songwriters and producers out right now. These new producers are just beat makers who jack old tracks. They can’t play instruments and have no real musical skills. This of course diminishes the quality of the music for those artists who don’t or can’t write for themselves. Palow da Don and producers like him make music for the moment but five years from now we won’t even remember the songs they made. I mean really, will any of the garbage Fegie and Cassie sing even be remembered a year from now
:lol2: Shoot I might as well get some of my friends and I to start a singing group. :lol2: And singing is not my talent ask my friends.
When a lot of these R&B groups came out in the 90’s no-one took them seriously – Xscape,Jade,SWV,Shai – now people look at that era of artists with more respect. Is it a case of missing the “good old days” or were they really that good ?
