Brandy is Back

Brandy is heading back to the big screen. The 32-year old singer/actress has confirmed news that she will be appearing in Tyler Perry’s upcoming film ‘The Marriage Counselor.’

Brandy will be joined by ‘Roc’ actress Ella Joyce, comedian Ben Stiller, ‘House of Payne’ actor Lance Gross, ‘Eve’s Bayou’ actress Jurnee Smollett and socialite Kim Kardashian.

‘The Marriage Counselor’ will be Perry’s 13th film under the Lionsgate umbrella and his second to be filmed exclusively at his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.

Editor’s Note: Tyler Perry has singlehandedly kept black Hollywood working for the last 7 years and for that I respect him. He has especially given work to black women that I feel would have remained jobless were it not for me. Having said that, I was saddened to see him cast Kardashian in a role that could have, and should have, gone to one of the many struggling black actresses we all know exist in Hollywood.

Not only that, but when it comes time for this film to be promoted, the press will focus in on Kardasian, as oppose to Jurnee and Lance, who are the film’s starring characters.

If Perry is trying to broaden his fan base, he surely has the right to do so. However, he should be careful not to alienate the base that has so far helped make him the richest man in Hollywood.

  1. All men, black and white, act as if it is their responsibility to take care of Kim. Not shocked at all that Tyler would jump on the bandwagon to validate this woman and what she does. If he wanted to hire a whore why not Superhead? Oh yeah, she is black and thus I guess she can take care of herself or is just undeserving of a chance at legitimacy.

  2. “Not only that, but when it comes time for this film to be promoted, the press will focus in on Kardasian, as oppose to Jurnee and Lance, who are the film’s starring characters.”

    Well said…and I agree.

  3. I do not want to see Kim’s plastic surgery in a Tyler Perry film. Yeah I said it, and I mean it. I’m glad Brandy is back on the big screen. Can we get another album too? I agree that another out of work , black actress should have been used. I did see the play and the assistant was white, but she was funny. I have watched Keeping up with the Kardashians and the only one’s with personality are Khloe and her mom. Tyler is going to make a lot of people’s stomachs turn.

  4. How ironic?! Kim Kartrashian in a movie called “The Marriage Counselor”? Naw…I will have to miss on supporting the buhs film this time. I am not about to watch a Kartrashian on any medium. All the best Tyler but I’ll pass.

  5. I see people’s point but if Kim K auditioned for the role fair and square like everybody else then so be it. Besides we have no idea how extensive her part is so I wont trip about it.

  6. Yes I agree regarding Tyler Perry’s decision to cast Kim Kardashin, never forget the roots that helped you grow to this status! I love almost all his work but Puting a popular reality start in his next film will add more fans, but may dampen his base with African Americans.

Its already a hard enough struggle to see our African American celebrities not featured in motion pictures as often as their white counterparts. I hope his messages of restoring the black family never dissapate because of the apperance of the grass being greener on the other side.

  7. I am not a fan of Kim K. but I think Tyler is using her star power to attract more viewers. I hope it works out for the sake of the others including my girl Brandy–Kim’s could’ve been sister-in-law. I smell Controversy.

  8. VERY interesting cast. I’ll have to see a trailer or something to decide if I wanna watch it.

BLACKSISTA- I had forgot all about that. I bet that’s gonna be awkward for the both of them.

  9. @John, yeah cause Kim used to work for Brandy too, I think that is how Kim and Kelly met… through Brandy.
