Even though this site is primarily dedicated to the sistas- back in the day we actually had a section set aside to post articles about brothers we loved. That part of the blog was eventually done away with but I am seriously considering bringing it back just so I can big up my newest obsession: Lyfe Jennings. One of the reasons we did away with the section for brothas is because so few men in the business impressed us enough that we actually wanted to highlight them here. That was- until I came across a clip of Lyfe Jennings performing that had been posted on You Tube.
I had actually been hearing the brothas music for some time now but had no idea who he was.A friend of mine actually hipped me to “S-E-X” but I was not very impressed and still had no idea that the singer of this song was also the singer of the other songs that I had been hearing on the radio and loved.
Finally, after hearing Let’s Stay Together I realized the voices were similar and did some searching.Sure enough I discover that Lyfe Jennings was not only the singer ((I thought he was a rapper on that song)) of “S-E-X”, but also, “Let’s Stay Together” and “Must Be Nice”- two songs that I absolutely adored.
I then did an in depth search of him on You Tube and was hooked after about 20 minutes.I ran out the next day and picked up both his albums and have been listening to them non stop. This brotha is nothing short of brilliant- but like most brilliant artists today you don’t hear too much from’em because the airwaves are saturated with pretty people who can dance rather than those with actual musical ability.
Anyway, to experience a little bit of that Lyfe Jennings magic that hooked me, you can view clips of him performing here, here, here, and here.

Been a fan since the first album. The brother is so underracted it’s not even funny. He still hasn’t gotten even the same press as John Legend and he blows him out the water.I think those 10 years of prison are working against him.He just might need a better record label and team behind him too.Glad you posted about him girl
It’s a damn shame that Justin Timberlake does better on the r&b/soul charts than Lyfe does. This man is the absolute truth. But as good as his albums are they cannot compare to watching him perform live. His acoustic performances are legendary among his fans. For anyone who doesn’t yet know who he is or why his fans are crazy for him just pick up his albums and you’ll know why.Goodbye is a killer song and will hook anyone.I’ll say it again, Lyfe is the truth.
You all forgot the most important thing, the brother is fine as hell.

That’s all need to be said right there.
His management isn’t too tight and I think his management is his girlfriend.Unless your S/O is in the business and knows the ends and outs of it they have no business being your management. This dude could have been so much bigger had he had the right people behind him.I see no reason why he can’t be up there with at least John Legend. In my opinion he is ten times better than John and is sho nuff better looking. His songs are soulful and sexy as hell.Let’s stay together should have been a massive hit and in my opinion Goodbye has smash written all over it too.
I think Goodbye will be the next single.I can’t think of anything else single worthy from his album.Though both his albums were good they don’t have a lot of single worthy songs.
The River is excellent but they will not release that song to radio.Cry from his first cd was great too, but again there is no way that song would stand a chance on radio stations today.
It is live performing that will keep Lyfe around and draw him new fans.I can’t see him ever being a mainstream artist. If he was I think he would probably lose his soul element which is what his fans love the most.
Word I am seriously listening to his last album right now.Everybody at work has copped his album thanks to me.Lyfe is destined to change Black music as we know it.
