The AMAs aired last night on ABC and as usual it was a total snooze.I am old enough to remember when the AMAs used to be “The” awards show to attend.Years ago the Grammys were known as the longest and most boring show in history and usually got lackluster ratings compared to the AMAs.That all changed when the Grammys became a fashion show and celebs, even those who weren’t singers, started using it to promote themselves. Then the President of the Grammys decided that artists who appeared and performed on the AMAs could not perform on the Grammys which usually aired about a month or so after the AMAs.
That decision led to a mass exodus of artists willing to perform or even appear on the AMAs as everyone wanted to be a part of the Grammy show which was now officially known as the biggest night in music (ratings wise). The AMAs tried to counter that effect by moving their show to the end of the year, but it didn’t work and ratings continued to decline as few artists even bother to show up, even if they are nominated. This year was no different as some of the biggest winners of the evening stayed their butts at home.
That however did not stop the Sistas from attending as both Mary J. Blige and Beyonce not only showed up, but took to the stage to perform as well.Beyonce opened the show with “Irreplaceable” while Mary belted out her new single “We Ride” and also picked up two of the three awards she was nominated for ((Best R&B Female & Best R&B Album)) .
I’m sure by now you just all just want me to shut up and show ya the pics.Well instead of posting the low quality images here and the HQs in our gallery, I have decided to just post the HQs which you can see here.As always I will add more pics from the evening as they become available.

I don’t watch the American Music Awards anymore because of exactly what you said. The old Grammy President jacked up everything when he penalized artists for performing and even attending the American Music Awards. He was just jealous because the Grammys had always been a stale boring show while the American Music Awards rocked.Years ago artists like Lionel Ritchie, Whitney Houston, Madonna and Mariah performed at both shows but you always knew the American Music Awards would be better because the general buying public had a voice while it was widely known that old foggies did most of the voting in the Grammys. Not to mention they always gave the biggest awards of the night to acts who didn’t deserve it.Personally I’m happy shows like the Soul Train and BET Awards exist. Now we can watch our people and skip all the other crap.
Hell I didn’t even know the show was coming on.Anyone got you tube links to the performances?
I added the links to both performances.
I saw five minutes of it and I saw my girl Mary get her last award for the night and I was happy for my girl and I turned. I missed all the other performances and from what I’m hearing it wasn’t worth watching. And I had no clue it was coming on.
What a snooze! It was major boring and when it wasn’t boring it was just plain stupid. I listened to some of it and went to see the performers that I liked. I scanned the rest – thanks to the good ol’ DVR. The only performances that were worthwhile for me were Jamie Foxx, Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood and the Dixie Chicks. Yep, I said it. And yes, when they were in town a few years ago I was one of the five black people at the concert. :brownsista:
The best performance to me was Nelly Furtado. The song was great and so was the stage set up. Beyonce was very boring to me, but that could be b/c I’m am bored w/her now altogether. What’s up with her blowing kisses while she was singing?
