Actress Regina King and Taraji P. Henson were both on hand last night in New York City to host the 3rd. Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards. An organization that mentors young Black women through music, Black Girl Rock Inc, used this year’s show to pay tribute to some of Hollywood’s most accomplished women, as well as lesser known sistas who have distinguished themselves in their particular field. This year’s honoress included British singer Estelle, as well as actress Pam Grier, and 70s models Bethanne Hardison and Iman. Other sistas on hand for the festivities included singer Faith Evans, Erykah Badu and actress Malinda Williams.

Hoping to get more publicity for their celebrity marriage, Robin Givens and Malik plan a belated wedding reception, but Tasha decides to boycott the party since she believes their marriage is a sham and won’t support it. At the reception, Derwin and Melanie must face the reality of their complicated relationship after many people mistakenly congratulate Melanie on her pregnancy. Meanwhile, Rick Fox reluctantly introduces Tasha to his overly protective mother, causing fireworks to ensue between the two headstrong women. Additional guest stars include New Orleans Hornets’ Chris Paul and actors Tisha Campbell-Martin and Duane Martin who all play themselves in the episode.

Actress Jill Marie Jones has found a new gig. The former Girlfriends castmate will star alongside Laura Harring and Oded Fehr in the Nancy Kissam written and directed dark comedy, Drool. The film revolves around Harring, who plays an abused wife who plans to run away with her best friend- played by Jill. Their plans however go awry when Harring accidentally kills her husband (Oded Fehr), leading the two to drive the body cross country. Drool was the winner of the 2006 Slamdance screenplay competition and is presently in post production- with a tentative release date set for the Spring of 2009.

The mother and brother of Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Hudson have reportedly been found dead at a home on Chicago’s South Side and police reportedly say a seven-year-old boy is missing. CBS2 in Chicago reports: The mother of Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson was reportedly found dead in a South Side home. Two adults were found fatally shot at a home at 70th Street and Yale Avenue at 3 p.m. Friday, authorities said. Willie Davis, the pastor of the Hudson family’s church, Progressive Baptist, confirmed that 57-year-old Darnell Hudson Donnerson was one of the victims. The other victim was a man, the Chicago Fire Department said.

Soul diva Mary J. Blige was on hand last night to help fashion designer Catherine Malandrino open her new concept boutique on Melrose Avenue. Mary acted as hostess for Malandrino who the singer first met some seven years ago when she presented her “Hallelujah” collection at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Mary sang in the show and Catherine has even designed costumes for Mary’s various tours. The two women have kept up their close friendship over the years and when Malandrino decided to open The Catherine Melandrino Mansion, a boutique featuring an in house café, library, and accessories store, she called on none other than Mary to host the grand opening.

Wilson from BlackFilm.com was nice enough to send BrownSista movie stills from Gabrielle Union and Beyonce Knowles’ new film, Cadillac Records. As previously reported, the film revolves around Leonard Chess (Adrian Brody), the founder of Chess Records, a company that was responsible for launching the careers of many blues musicians during the 1950s and 60s. Beyonce landed the coveted role of Etta James, while Gabrielle Union won the role of Geneva Wade, girlfriend to blues legend, Muddy Waters, played by Jeffrey Wright. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters December 5th.

Last week we posted a preview of Michelle Williams‘ latest video, The Greatest, and now we have the full length video with share with you as well. Music World Entertainment says it is fully behind Michelle’s new album, despite poor first week sales. Let’s hope The Greatest helps Michelle turn things around. Personally, I like the song and the video.

The 2008 BET Hip Hop Awards ceremony was held earlier this evening at the Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center in Atlanta, Georgia. And as expected, the event was a testosterone filled extravaganza that only came to a crescendo when the fellas stepped aside and the ladies of hip hop were allowed to take over. Providing the night’s most unforgettable moment, MC Lyte, Salt n’ Pepa with Spinderalla, as well as Yo-Yo and Lady of Rage, took to the stage and rattled off a medley of their hits, including Cha Cha Cha, You Can’t Play With My Yo-Yo, My Mic Sounds Nice, and Push It.

After unveiling her amazing post-baby figure in Ultimo lingerie advertisements, it’s no surprise Melanie Brown was bombarded with letters asking how she did it. The former Spice Girl has decided to reveal the secret behind her honed and toned bodies in a fitness DVD. The 33-year-old singer is releasing Totally Fit: Mel B, a three-disc workout, which includes a 23-day plan to slim down, in December. After piling on the pounds during her pregnancy with second child Angel Iris, Mel B signed up to appear on Dancing With The Stars - the U.S. version of Strictly Come Dancing. After beginning to slim down on Dancing, Mel carried on her active new lifestyle with regular workouts at the gym and a healthy eating plan. People were so impressed with her new body, she was offered a contract as a lingerie model for Scottish underwear firm Ultimo.
