SWV is back with the visual for their latest single Ain’t No Man. The track is the first to be released from their upcoming fifth solo album Still, due out November 13.
The video was helmed by celebrity photographer Derek Blanks, who also directed the group’s previous effort, 2012’s Co-Sign.
Tamar Braxton’s Calling all Lovers First Week Sales are In
Singer Tamar Braxton kicked off the October 2 release of her Calling all Lovers album with a performance of her new single Circles on the Wendy Williams Show.
This was one of only a handful of performances Tamar has given in support of Calling all Lovers, which was pushed back from its original release date of Septemeber 11.
Unfortunately for Tamar, the push back put her in direct competition with Janet Jackson, whose Unbreakable album has snatched pole position on next week’s Billboard Hot 100.
Singer Janet Jackson is back on top. The forty-nine year old pop veteran’s latest album Unbreakable is set to debut at number one on next week’s Billboard Hot 100.
According to industry estimates, Unbreakable, which was leaked earlier this week, but officially released yesterday, is set to assume pole position with sales of around 100,000.
This will be Janet’s seventh number one album of her career, joining previous releases Control (1986), Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989), Janet (1993), The Velvet Rope (1997), All For You (2001) and Discipline (2008).
We hope you’re ready for another remix of Drake’s summer hit Hotline Bling, because singer Erykah Badu is the third artist to put her personal stamp on the popular tune.
Rapper Jadakiss released a remix of the song a few weeks ago titled Thotline Bling, which was quickly proceeded by singer Keyshia Cole and her more girl friendly version of the tune.
Erykah’s interpretation, however, takes things up a bit thanks to the addition of some hilarious lyrics and production help from her son Seven Benjamin.
Tami Roman is once again throwing her hat into the acting ring. The Basketball Wives star is shopping around a pilot titled The Assist, which she shot with singer Brooke Valentine, basketball player Nick Young, and fellow reality star Paris Phillips.
The half-hour comedy finds Tami playing a publicist who works for an NBA superstar, a role she says she’s more than prepared for given her seven year marriage to former NBA player Kenny Anderson. “This was an amazing character for me to play,” Tami told fans via Facebook. “She’s fully in control, not the girlfriend, not the ex-girlfriend, not the baby mama; I’m kind of the boss over the boss on the show.”
Empire Ratings Slip, Fox Unbothered
Though it was still the king of Wednesday night, Empire has suffered its first ratings slip, both in demo and overall viewership.
While the show’s sophomore premiere drew over sixteen million viewers and garnered a whopping 6.7 demo, last night’s episode slid by three million viewers and secured a 5.4 demo. Nothing to sneeze at by any means, but noteworthy because the show’s demo and viewers have risen steadily with almost every episode.
Want more Soul Food? Well, Fox 2000 hopes you do because they are in the process of commissioning a sequel to the successful 1997 film which starred Nia Long, Vanessa L. Williams and Vivica A. Fox.
We first heard rumor of a new Soul Food back in 2011, but that one pertained to the television version which ran on Showtime from 2000-2004 and starred the other Vanessa Williams, Nicole Ari Parker and Malinda Williams.
Hip-Pop artist Nicki Minaj has teamed up with ABC Family to possibly star in and produce a half-hour comedy about her life growing up in Queens, New York.
The pilot is set to be filmed this winter on location in the borough, which is famous for producing such notable rap acts as Run DMC, LL Cool J, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest and of course Nicki herself.
Nicole Ari Parker and Rasheeda will be guest starring on upcoming episodes of Fox’s new drama Rosewood starring Morris Chestnut.
Nicole will appear on tomorrow night’s episode titled Fireflies and Fidelity. She plays Dr. Katherine Crawford, a potential love interest for Morris’ character Dr. Beaumont Rosewood.
Rasheeda will appear on the October 7 episode titled Have-Nots and Hematomas. Rasheeda plays a character named Scrumptious, which I’m gonna go out on a limb and say is either an exotic dancer, or lady of the night.
HBO’s hit drama The Leftovers is back for a second season and will be adding Emmy winner Regina King to their cast.
King, along with Jasmin Savoy, Kevin Carroll and Jovan Adepto will play the Murphys, one of only a handful of families who survived a cataclysmic event that wiped over 140 million people off the face of the planet.
Another day, another single from former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard.
With a new album, The Red Era, set to be released shortly, Dawn has unveiled Dance, an uptempo, slightly psychedelic sounding tune written by hitmaker Ester Dean and produced by Noisecastle III and R’ Cellious.
Aja Nicole King has a new movie coming out next month.
While browsing my Facebook timeline I discovered the How to Get Away with Murder actress will be starring in the film Reversion, alongside actors Gary Dourdan, Amanda Plummer and Lela Rochon.
The sci-fi drama centers on Aja’s character Sophie, the marketing genius behind a high-tech devise that attaches to the ear and allows its user to experience their most joyful memories as if they were happening for the first time.
Rihanna and Beyonce, both rumored to be in the studio working on new music, took time off from their projects to hit up music festivals over the weekend. Rihanna wowed the crowd at Rock in Rio in Brazil, while Beyonce did much the same at the Global Citizen Festival here in New York City.
Over 80,000 people reportedly watched Rihanna perform a gluttony of her hits, including Diamonds, Birthday Cake, and fan favorite Bitch Better Have My Money. The singer’s set lasted just over an hour and did not disappoint based on crowd reaction.
Renewed: Fox Greenlights a Third Season of Empire
While I was not a fan of Empire’s season two premiere The Devils are Here, it appears many of you were. Via press release, Fox announced the episode’s stellar ratings, which topped the 16-million mark, and secured a mind-boggling 6.7 in the advertiser coveted 18-49 age group.
Fox was of course pleased with those numbers, and have quietly (for now) renewed the show for a third season. The network launched a brilliant Twitter campaign which resulted in over two million tweets being sent out before the show even aired. Nielsen attributes much of Empire’s continued growth to its powerful presence on social media, particularly Twitter where the show has a very active following.
Yikes! The Fox network is not having a very impressive fall season so far. Several of its sophomore shows have returned with less than impressive ratings (Gotham) and two of it’s freshman dramas have also failed to impress.
My favorite, Minority Report, got off to a shaky start on Monday night, and now Scream Queens has done the same. Via TV by the Numbers, the teen horror fest drew 4.4 million viewers for its two-hour premiere last night, garnering a modest 1.7 in the coveted 18-49 age group.
