New Music: Keyshia Cole Hotline Bling Remix

Singer KEYSHIA COLE HOTLINE BLING REMIXKeyshia Cole is back with new music, a remix to Drake’s summer hit Hotline Bling. The tune was remixed last week by Jadakiss, whose anti-female version more than likely led Keyshia to whip up her more female-friendly version less than 48 hours later.

“Much respect to @champagnepapi,” Keyshia Instagrammed to fans. “But this one is for the ladies.” Drake co-signed Keyshia’s post, so we assume her version met with his approval.

Keyshia Cole Pulls the Plug

Singer Keyshia Cole is not very happy with her record sales. Despite her ‘Woman to Woman’ album recently being certified Gold, Keyshia told fans via Twitter no further singles would be forthcoming because… and I quote: “Album not selling good enough.”

About an hour later Keyshia returned to Twitter to clean up her comment, telling fans “#2more singles coming.”

After Keyshia’s spontaneous moment of candor I decided to hit up Soundscan, where I discovered the ‘Woman to Woman’ album has actually sold just under 280,000 copies since it was released back on November 19th.

Now, 280k isn’t bad, but once upon a time Keyshia sold that amount in a week. Still, if Keyshia is smart she will take a page out of Kelly Rowland’s book and start bankrolling her own videos and promotion if need be.

Keyshia Cole Says She “Gets It”

After her last album failed to set the record charts on fire, singer Keyshia Cole says she is now ready to give her fans what they want.

And what does Keyshia think her fans want? Well according to a recent tweet, “more depressed, fed up, n*ggas ain’t sh*t” music.” Keyshia says she recognizes that not all of her fans have moved on like she has and that “not everybody is happy.”

The 30-year old mommy and wife says she is still thankful for those fans who have grown with her and plans to release more upbeat tunes to keep them happy as well.

All in all Keyshia says she “gets it” and is ready to just make music and money.

Editor’s Note: As much as I adore Keyshia and am happy to see her successful in both career and life in general, I think it is a mistake for her to assume the poor performance of her last album was based on the fact that the music was more upbeat and happy than it had been on previous records.

Happy, upbeat music can and does sale records. This is why Pop and Rock & Roll are such huge sellers. The content on Keyshia’s last album wasn’t the problem- it was the quality. The songs sounded thrown together- as if they were fillers left over from previous recording sessions.

Twitter is not the best place to get advice for one’s upcoming record and sadly Keyshia is listening to what a few fans have to say via the social media outlet.

No matter how sad the songs, if there is not quality writing and production behind them, they will falter on the charts.

This is also where Keyshia can learn a lesson or two from Mary J. Blige, who refused to bow down to pressure to sing about a life she no longer lives. Blige said rather than sing inauthentic songs to her fans, she’d rather just step her game up.

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has spoken.

Keyshia Debuts New Video

R n’ B diva Keyshia Cole has finally debuted the video for her single “Take Me Away.” The third track to be released from her “Calling All Hearts” album, Keyshia called the single a reflection of her new life and says the video shoot was the first she’d even done where she was smiling all the way through. No doubt Keyshia’s life as a mother and fiancé has influenced her music. She seems truly happy and totally unaffected by what the public or her fans think of her new musical direction. Good for her.

On Set: Keyshia Shoots New Video

Singer Keyshia Cole is moving ahead with the promotion of her latest CD, “Calling All Hearts.” Despite less than stellar sales, the 29 year old R n’ B diva and her record label, Geffen, have started production on two new videos, including one for her next single, “Take Me Away.” Keyshia tweeted a photo from the set, saying the shoot “felt good” and that it was her first time ever smiling throughout an entire video.

Simply “Keyshia”

The public was apparently so turned off by Kelly Rowland naming her new album “Kelly Rowland,” that the singer decided to scrap the title and instead enlist the help of her fans in choosing a name. Fellow r n’ b diva Keyshia Cole however doesn’t appear to be having the same problem, as news of her titling her new CD “Keyshia” doesn’t seem to be causing the same kind of uproar. Speaking to Hip Hop Diva recently about the recording process, Cole said “It feels great. I worked hard to get to where I am today and have matured greatly in between my albums- which was proven on my last album A Different Me– so I just give blessings to God for what he has given me.” Keyshia’s A Different Me topped the R n’ B charts when it was released back in 2008, selling 322,000 in its opening week and marking the singer’s biggest debut ever. Keyshia says she hopes to duplicate that success and is said to be working with producers like Donald Alfaro and Darkchild in order to make that happen.

Look for “Keyshia” to drop around November 2010 with the first single to possibly be released in October.
