Mary J. Blige Expected To Top 600k In First Week Sales

Mary J At Her Album Release Party 12.18.2007 Holy Guacamole! Mary J. Blige is clearly “That Chick”. According to one day sales reports from Hits Daily Double, Mary’s new CD, Growing Pains, is on pace to sale about 600,000 copies in it’s first week. That number however is not enough to take the top spot as some guy named Josh Groban is expected to top the charts with his Noel CD, which is expected to exceed 700,000 in it’s 4th. week of release. Still, grabbing the number two position on the charts is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you do it with such phenomenal numbers. Many didn’t think Mary would have as much success with Growing Pains as she did with The Breakthrough, mainly because the first single did not get as much buzz. I guess they were wrong. Me also thinks Mary isn’t so sad about losing out on Umbrella. After all, that single only helped Rihanna sell a 140k in her first week of release.

Mary J. Blige Taking Over 106 & Park

Rosci, Mary and Terrence I think one of the best promotional tools ever devised was having artists host high rating shows during the week their albums are due to hit record stores. Def Jam utilized this strategy with Rihanna and it didn’t work (lol). It did however work for Ciara and LeToya Luckett, who did the same thing. Well it is now Mary J. Blige’s turn as she will share hosting duties with Rosci and Terrence all this week on BET’s 106 & Park. And for those of you who do not know, Mary’s new album, Growing Pains, comes out today and expectations are high.
