Monday Morning Randomness

Jay & Beyonce Bey spent her last day of freedom in St Tropez before heading back to the states where she is due to perform on tomorrow night’s BET Awards. Word is Beyonce will be opening the show with a medley of her B’ Day hits, including Upgrade U and Get Me Bodied. Jay is a rumored special guest and if he does perform with Bey, that will be some sort of record, as I believe they will have opened the BET Awards twice in the past as well. It’s no wonder BET is turning to Beyonce again, as their show last year, which she also opened, was a record breaker, pulling in a whopping six million viewers and even besting the MTV Video Awards.

Rihanna To Debut At Number 3

Rihanna Well it’s official. Paul McCartney has America’s #1 album, T-Pain holds the #2 position and Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad comes in at #3. Hits Daily Double has Rihanna selling 162,168 copies of her album but those numbers will change when Sound Scan releases their numbers tomorrow. What won’t change however is the order. Rihanna’s two previous albums also debuted near the top of the charts so this is definitely good news for her.

Rihanna’s Album Flops- Sorta

Rihanna CD Signing OK, I am being a bit dramatic, but according to Hits Daily Double, based on one day sales, Rihanna’s album is expected to only sell around 160-170,000 copies this week. That number is not good enough to land her album, Good Girl Gone Bad, in the number one slot and may not be good enough to even land it in the number two position, as HDD also reports that T-Pain’s album is due to sell around the same amount. In other words, Rihanna and T-pain will basically be fighting over the number two spot while HDD reports that Sir Paul McCartney’s new album, Memory Almost Full, will grab poll position with sales around 180,000.

Rihanna Grabs The Big 1 From Mary J.

Rihanna Performing On MTV Movie Awards Number 1 single that is. Yep, according to Monster’s & Critics, Rihanna’s worldwide smash single, Umbrella, was originally intended for Mary J. Blige. Rihanna however says she loved the song so much when she first heard it that she was determined to get it. So determined that she confronted one of the song writers at the Grammy Awards and told him Listen, Umbrella is my song. Two days later the singer said she was told the single was officially hers. Now one can only wonder how Mary would have sounded singing this tune but I get the feeling she would have torn it up. But who cares what I think. Take our Monday morning poll and share your thoughts with us.

Rihanna In Essence Magazine

Rihanna For Robyn Rihanna Fenty, it seems as if it were just the other day when she was strolling about, barefoot, in her family’s backyard in St. Michael, Barbados. But a quick tally of her recent successes—the debut single “Pon De Replay,” the most downloaded song of 2005; her debut gold album, Music of the Sun; the platinum follow-up, A Girl Like Me with the hit “SOS”-reveals that it has actually been two and a half years since Rihanna has enjoyed the easy pace of island life. She hasn’t slowed down since February 2005, when she auditioned for and signed with Def Jam Recordings.

Rihanna’s New Style

Rihanna After viewing photos of Rihanna’s last few performance I can see a style for the promotion of her new album emerging. For anyone who has watched artists like Janet Jackson and Madonna transform themselves for every new CD, you know what I am talking about. Rihanna’s first two albums didn’t see much, if any change in her look and personal style. However, one look at her most recent performances shows someone obviously trying to create a new signature look for themselves. Now I don’t know exactly what style Rihanna is going for as she looks a cross between 1980’s Madonna and Pat Benatar. But I give the sista credit for trying to break out of the big blonde weave mold that so many other female artists have fallen prey to. Take a look for yourselves and let me know what you think. Personally, I am loving it !
