Ciara Lands A Movie Role
Why is it singers want to act and actors want to sing? It seems everyone is looking to diversify these days and Ciara is no different. The dance diva has landed a part in the film adaptation of the stage play Mama, I Want To Sing. Ciara will play the lead character who rises from singing in her father’s church choir to super stardom. For those of you old to know to remember, Desiree Coleman first made this role popular and possesses an impressive five octave range. Patti Labelle, who first introduced Desiree to the world over twenty years ago will also star in the film, as well actress Lyn Whitfield who played Josephine Baker in the HBO special.
Mama, I Want To Sing is due to hit theaters in early 2008. This is Ciara’s second acting job, but the first to be released nationally. If you all remember, Ciara first acted in the straight to DVD MTV produced classic, All You’ve Got .

I know Patti can’t be pleased with the casting. Why would they chose Ciara? Do people think Black movies don’t stand a chance at the box office without the name of some big non acting female singer? i don’t even think Ciara has it like that yet. I can think of so many people they could have cast in that role that would have been ten times better. They just used Ciara for her name right now but she’s not even gonna be around foreve so that was a waste of time. And space.

Exactly I say the same thing. I like Ciara as a dancer. But she just might shock the people with her singing in this movie. We will see though. I know Beyonce definately shocked everyone with Dream Girls by walking away with not one award LOL!

I’m indifferent on this one. I like Ciara (okay, I only know of her song “One, Two Step”) and even though I can never remember what she looks like, I have seen her dance and she’s good.
So if she wants to step into acting, I’m all for it. If J.Lo can score movie deals (pretty as she is, she can’t act or sing lead worth a dime), and if Beyonce was nominated for a Golden Globe (seriously folks, did the committee watch the same movie as the rest of us?) then I don’t see why Ciara can’t toss her hat into the ring and try the big screen.

They will cast anyone in anything today. Beyonce was right for Dreamgirls. Ciara would not have been good in that role or any role that requires her to sing. Ciara is best suited for You Got Served or something of that nature. She is a dancer not a singer. :hmph:
