Ciara’s “Fantasy Ride” Gets Pushed Back

posted by Sista on October 24th, 2008 at 11:44 am

While doing radio promotion for her new album, singer Ciara confirmed that her new project would be pushed back to a January 2009 release date. As we previously reported, Ciara’s new single “Go Girl” is struggle on the charts and has yet to chart inside the Hot 100. She does however seem to be having an easier time on the R n’ B charts, where Go Girl sits at #41 after seven weeks on the charts. Ciara joins a growing list of artists to have their albums pushed back, including Keri Hilson and Brandy. Despite the set back, look for Ciara to keep promoting the project. The singer is scheduled to perform in November on Good Morning America, Regis & Kelly and the final episode of MTV’s TRL.

I have updated this post to add pics of Ciara attending the 3rd Annual Billboard Women in Music Breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City.

  1. January might be better for her, I don’t know. But as long as she keeps putting out videos and promoting I think she’ll be fine. :brownsista:

  2. well i wish her luck but if i was her i would have pushed mine back as well…

  3. Her label chose the wrong song to release as a first single. Go Girl was a dud from the beginning and the video wasn’t much better. Ciara needs to stay promoting though. As long as she keeps performing and keeps her name out there she will be fine.

  4. Well I will say this “Go Girl” was a terrible first single with a hot video. I hope she tries again with a dope song and dope video to match.

  5. I notice that several other artists have pushed back the release of their projects into January, or at least into the earlier part of next year. Here’s my thinking on that: right now, Bush has the economy so jacked up that we working people don’t have any extra money to spend after we pay all our basic living expenses. More and more every day, it looks like Barack Obama is going to be our next president (praise the Lord, thank you sweet Jesus). When he officially takes office in January, he’s going to put in place financial policies that are designed to help working people such as ourselves; in other words, he’s gonna raise some taxes on “Cliff and Claire Huxtable” while lowering taxes on “James and Flora Evans”. Ya see what I’m sayin’? As more working class money becomes more freed up, that extra money will be used to go buy some music CD’s and DVD’s. It seems to me that this is what these various artists are counting on. Y’all agree?
Special note: Bill Cosby has this very deep seated, and a very vicious animus towards names like “Shaniqua”, Tanishia”, “Da’Wayne”, “Kwame”, etc. Bill Cosby has his damn nerve! What on God’s green earth kind of a name is “Huxtable”? I can safely say that I’m about twice the age of the individuals who post here at Brownsista.com, so I’ve been around for a good many years now. But in my entire life I’ve never heard of a name as weird as “Huxtable”. Pretty soon he’s probably gonna start making fun of the names “Barack” and “Obama”. As I said to a poster a while back, “Barack” is a Hebrew/Semitic name that means either “Lightning” or “He is a blessing”. “Obama” is a very common last name of the Luo peoples of Kenya in Africa. Oh, and by the way good people, Barack’s middle name is “Hussein”. “Hussein” means “He is handsome”. @ Bill Cosby: Bill, if you’re looking in on my post, please think on the name “Barack Hussein Obama” first before you start runnin’ that silly mouth of yours. But don’t think too hard. I wouldn’t want your brain to melt like ice cream and come oozing out of your ears.

  6. lol @ smooth thug love your post btw.

  7. Blame it on tha Rain

I don’t know what to say… I suppose it has to do w/ that horrible Go Girl song, but this “pushin back” thing is hittin to many ppl. Eve’s last album never seen the store shelves & that was after she realeased to singles that had a pretty good buzz around them. I hope that Ciara’s album & the others mentioned don’t suffer the same fate. No I would not buy CiCi’s album, but somebody out there is waitin for it & will buy it. But what can we say, it’s the crooked world of record labels politics  .

  8. @ Smooth Thug,

    So very true!!! :hifive:
Some people are so ignorant and hypocritical. Thank you for your wise words!

  9. THATS PR0BABLY G00D 4 HER B/C HER S0NG SUCKS 4 REALZ……………..AND

HER ALBUM IS G0ING T0 FL0P BIG TYME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    AND I AM A FAN BUT I N0T FEELING HER RIGHT N0W!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Smooth thug, Reading my mind as always,
I will add that It would be suicidal, cocky and plain old stupid, To release an album around this time, we are in the middle of an economic crisis, people DO NOT have 15 dollars TO SPEND on music. So to those that want to take that kind of risk good for you , just don’ t blame the recession for your futur flop

  11. I think its good for these artists to wait until AFTER November, because right now the media is totally saturated by the election.

  12. kwame is african Barack in my language means “strong man” , obama is a kenyan last name just like Gnagne is an ivoirian, People just want to be ignorant, and looking down on others, when they make it, which is one of the reason why people rather dowload than support too bad some innocents victims get sucked in that mess

  13. Ms. “Loveroflife” and Ms. “Cheryl”, I’m very pleasantly surprised, very flattered, and very, very humbled by the possitive reaction I received from you ladies to my post. Thank you.
Here’s another alien from outer space for you; please Google “Juan Williams”. This guy is a new kind of fool! He says that people like Jesse Jackson and the Reverend Al Sharpton have done a bad job of representing the Afro-American community. Oh really? And when the Jenna 6 incident happened, Al Sharpton was there. Was Juan Williams there? Juan Williams, and Bill Cosby, were nowhere to be found!
Ms. “Loveroflife” and Ms. “Cheryl”, have a very nice weekend. Take care, be safe, and please be blessed.

  14. @Smooth :iagree:

To me its greedy if you try to come with an album before January, knowing people are having financial hardships.
Im not really into Ciara but I really like “Echo” which is on the new album, that should have been released first.

  15. Great News My Baby Performing Soon, Thanks For The Head Up Stephanie, Ciara Is The Greatest Entertainer Alive. Please Support , She Just Receive Billboard Woman Of The Year Award, Happy Twenty Third Birthday You Are The Best

  16. @ Smooth Thug: :iagree:

Let us all “hope” and pray that “change” is coming!

  17. ‘Change’ is coming…Let’s keep on dreaming
When you wake up, however, don’t say there wasn’t anybody there to warn you.

I wish you the best Ciara because I like some of your stuff.

  18. Wow I cant beleive that folks are dense enough to think albulms are being pushed back to ease the pressure off of folks pocket books! err isnt Dec, and Jan holiday season? and evein if Obama gets elected do you think as soon as he’s inaugerated in January the economy will magically improve? Are ya serious?! AND SHES PUSHING THE ALBUM BACK TILL DEC,! one whole month after November , what the hell differance will a month make? do you know something I dont?wait do you think as soon as Obama wins the middle class is gonna go all consumer crazy? :lol2: :lol2: even if Obama does will economic experts predict at the very least it will take years for the economy to settle, and I dont know about you but I dont know one damn person who plans on spending thier tax relief money on a damn CD! WOW talk about the blind leading the uninformed! yall are so clueless its scary

  19. It’s really funny, that certain posters of this blog will blame managers when some albums get pushed back, but it’s for the best when others are pushed back. SMH These comments are funny! I think they’re pushing it back because the single is under performing. Anyway, hope it works out for Ciara.

  20. ^^I agree. Most of the times, albums are pushed back because there is a lack of demand. This was probably a good move for Ciara. We wouldn’t want her to do Solange’s numbers..

  21. This has nothing to do with the economy. Most CDs start at 8.99 or 9.99 for the first week. November and December are the best months for album sales because of the holidays. January typically produce the lowest sales.
Her album is being pushed back because the first single flopped and the leaked tracks did’nt show signs of fairing any better.

  22. Ms. “SnijanaFleur”, I agree that with other posters here that Ciara is pretty and sexy. Her songs aren’t the best, yet they’re OK. I wish her all the best as well.
With that being said, let me also add this:
After reading your various posts over the last several months, I’ve noticed that whenever the subject of a possible Barack Obama presidency has come up, you’ve writen posts that vaguely say that such a situation would be unfortunate, almost tragic in nature. “Vaguely” is much too strong a word. Actually, what you seem to do is softly hint at the catstrophe of a Barack Obama presidential administration while not really straight-out saying it. Your above post is a prime example. You state that when we finish our “dreaming”, “don’t say there wasn’t anybody the to warn you.” “Warn” us about what? You’re not very clear at all. And exactly who is this “anybody” who was doing this warning? You? Again, that’s not clear. So if you would be so kind, please explain.
I have a warning for all of us too, but I will make my warning clear and to the point! And this is it: when Barack Obama is elected president, and it looks like he will be, our work won’t be over. Why? Because very Republican in congress will get together and jump on Barack all at the same time! When Barack tries to lower taxes on “James and Flora Evans”, the Republicans are gonna say, “Hell no!” When Barack builds a program to help get us all medical care that’s affordable, the Republicans are gonna say, “Hell no!” When Barack tries to get us out of that stupid, pointless, makes-no-kinda-sense war in Iraq, the Republicans are gonna say, “Oh, hell no!” Y’all know what I’m sayin’? I’m ready to back Barack all the way. I know y’all are too.

  23. @ Smooth Thug

she is a Republican so that’s why she disagrees with Obama. She is a Ron Paul supporter. Whom I like as well. However I am supporting Obama though.

  24. Yeah, Ron Paul would have been a great choice :lol2:

  25. Blame it on tha Rain

I doubt that this album is pushed back b/c of price… like another poster mentioned, albums their 1st week out are $9.99 or less depending which retailer u go to. The sale usual last from the Tuesday that the album is realeased until that Saturday. Now it depends on if you want to spend the money on the album or not, but for the most part the music is affordable.

  26. “You state that when we finish
our ‘dreaming’, ‘don’t say there wasn’t anybody the to warn you.’ ‘Warn’ us about what? You’re not very clear at all. And exactly who is this ‘anybody’ who was doing this warning? You? Again, that’s not clear. So if you would be so kind, please explain”
    Smooth Thug.

The assumption is Obama will bring ‘change’. What kind of change will he bring exactly? That is besides being the 1st ‘Black’ to fill the position of president of the USA. That’s not enough. I’m not so concern about his skin tone. I more concern about how he will be different from the past administrations on Foreing Policy, Monetary Policy, Protection of civil Liberties, the war on drug…So far, his votes on the FISA bill, the Wallstreet bailout bill, the so call ‘Patriot’ Act, and his position on pre-emptive stricke on foreign nations are proving he is more of the same instead of ‘change’.

When I say “When you wake up, however, don’t say there wasn’t anybody there to warn you”, I mean don’t say you did not see the warning signs that scream he will be more of the same…just with a different appearence. If you’re still asking me who exactly is doing the warning, you obviously did not do you homework during this election cycle. Try to look beyond the 2 party system illusion the Mass media is feeding you, and you will find the answer you seek.

    OK…Let me help
Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Chuck Baldwin, Cynthia Mckinney, and Bob Barr. I don’t agree with them 100% percent on everything, but we agree on major issues. The closest one I agree with is Dr. Ron Paul. Since I can’t vote for him in NY, I will vote for any of the others before I do Obama/McCkain. They prove they can and will bring true change by their records and strong positions…which tend to ally with the Constitution of this land.

On a side note…Aren’t the Democrats the majority in Congress going on 2 years now?

  27. Obama’s votes FOR the FISA…
    Pre-emptive strike*

  28. Haters Everywhere I Go!!

lol @ uninformed idiots saying that the “First Single” was a dud or flopped, and even the blogger has wrong info. Go Girl wasn’t even the first single, if people would check their facts they would know that Go Girl was not even an official single it’s what they call a promo single. The song was never officially sent to rythmic or pop radio because it’s NOT A SINGLE!! Also The song did chart in the Hot 100 and the Pop 100. Oh ……and the video made it to #1 on billboards videos chart. All of this info could have easily been looked up on billboard.com. This song has done exactly its purpose which was PROMO!!

  29. I love Ci-Ci…I can jam to her songs all day…It’s great car music too…I’m buying her next album recession or not!

Snijana  -I’m glad you’ve kinda explained…hate it when people post these subliminal messages you’ve been using. It’s dirty scare tactics.

Obama supporters…don’t take chances, take advantage of early voting PLEASE?

  30. @ Ms. SnijanaFleur.
The “change” that Barack Obama will bring is a different way of going about doing things than that of the Republicans. To illistrate what I mean, let’s deal with the concerns you have brought up:
Foreign Policy- Ever since Ronald Reagan, the only instrument of foreign policy that Republicans have used is military action. Reagan invaded Grenada to overthrow a communist government that he didn’t like. The first president Bush started a war with Sadaam Hussein to get him out of Kuwait. Historically, Kuwait belonged to Iraq in the first place. This current Bush seems like he wants to start a war with everybody. Barack Obama will “change ” all of that in that he prefers to talk first, to use diplomacy first. While Bush is trying his best to get into a fight with Amadinejad of Iran, Obama says that if he becomes president, he would like to have a long talk with him. And why not? Back in the 1970’s talking worked just fine for Nixon. Rather than blow the world up to kingdom come, Nixon avoided World War 3 with China when he went to talk with Mao Tse-Tung. After that everything was OK again. Ronald Reagan also avoided World War 3 with Russia in the 1980’s when he went to talk with Gorbechev. If that hadn’t have worked, none of us would be here today; that war would have been a nuclear war that would have ended all life on earth.
Civil Liberties- the erosion of our civil liberties has come mainly from the Supreme Court justices that have been placed there by passed and current Republican presidents, again, going back to Ronald Reagan. How will Barack “change ” that? Several of those justices are very quickly approaching retirement. With Obama as president, he will appoint new justices who are more liberal minded, more open minded, especially when it comes to our rights. We are going to come back to our rights when we deal with FISA and the Patriot Act.
The War on Drugs- appearently, Obama is going to let law enforcement do their thing. But keep in mind that he will appoint new Supreme Court justices who will protect the rights of innocent people. BTW, I hate drug dealers with a passion. All they are doing is selling death and slavery to their own race.
Let’s now consider your other concerns:
The FISA Bill- before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the president could run around like a chicken with no head spying on anybody all because that’s what he felt like doing. What FISA did was require that the president first get permission from a court before he can have someone spied on. So of course Obama voted yes on that. And you’re concerned about his stand on civil liberties? Well, there’s your answer.
The Patriot Act- the same thing here. Obama said yes because no spying will be allowed unless proof is presented to a judge that the spying is justified.
The Wall Street bailout- poor Barack got stuck between a rock and a hard place on that one. If the bailout failed to pass, the financial system would totally fail. Even with the bailout in place, things are still on shakey ground.
Pre-emptive stikes- in 2005, the C.I.A. learned that Al-Qaeda would be having a secret meeting of its leaders, possibly including Osama Bin Laden. That idiot Bush failed to act on that. Obama said he would have acted immediately. Is that what you mean by a “pre-emptive strike”? Again, you’re not being too clear. A “strike” on who and where?
Let’s now consider some of these oddballs you would much rather vote for:
Dr. Ron Paul- an anarchist. And I don’t give a hoot or a holler what you or anybody else says… if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, then it is a duck! But that’s besides the point. Ron Paul is in favor of using military force against terrorists in Afghanistan. Guess what, honey, so is Barack Obama. Ron Paul is also against the war in Iraq. Obama is against that war too, isn’t he?
Chuck Baldwin- one of Ron Paul’s runnin’ buddies. And I don’t mean that in a good way. He’s against the Iraq war. As mentioned, so is Barack Obama. What else? He’s against so called “illegal immigration”. You and him better be careful with that one; that’s almost racist in attitude towards latins in general, and Mexicans in particular. I’m of Mexican ancestry my own self!! The last time an individual called us Mexicans something out of our race, my respose was not very nice. Let’s continue.
Cynthia McKinney- member of the Green Party. This party stresses environmentalism. We’re going to come back to this when we deal with Ralph Nader. Ms. McKinney voted in favor of John Murtha’s H.J.R. 73 which would remove soldiers from Iraq and place them in another part of the Middle East. In other words, take the problem from your right pocket and place it in your left pocket. Right. That’s real intelligent!
Bob Barr- Libertarian Party. Wanted to impeach President Clinton for a bunch of silly non-sense while president Clinton was trying to stop a world recession similar to what’s going on now. Again, that’s real intelligent. Libertarians are in favor of as little market regulations as possible. Wake up, sweetheart. Markets that are minimally regulated are what has gotten us into this financial mess in the first place.
Ralph Nader- pro-environment. According to the New York Times, Obama sponsored a congressional bill which would make it mandatory for nuclear power plants to report radiation leaks to local and state governments. You can’t get more environmental than that (New York Times. Feb. 3, 2003).
Well, it’s now 3 A.M. here in Los Angeles. I haven’t gotten any sleep now for almost 20 hours. Thank you your help, I hope you have appreciated mine. Good night.

  31. Rae…I’ll fully explain my claims more often

  32. Smooth Thug

On Foreign Policy “Barack Obama will ‘change’ all of that in that he prefers to talk first, to use diplomacy first…with Amadinejad of Iran, Obama says that if he becomes president, he would like to have a long talk with him” Smooth Thug.

    Key word–>First
I’m for talk with Foreign nations because communication is the key to any successful relationship. However, I’m not for policing the world/ ordering other nations to do as we wish or else. USA says Iran should NOT have nuclear weapons. Iran has to stop its program RIGHT NOW. Obama agrees, of course. First, who gives the US the right to tell Iran it shouldn’t have nuclear weapons? Keep in mind…we have tons of them ourselves, so does other Middle Eastern nations… Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, or Israel… What makes us so RIGHTEOUS–> Iraqi citizens are dying daily because we ALLOWED the US to go to war under FALSE pretences on our behalf. Also, aren’t we the sole nation to use the atomic bomb? Aren’t we involve directly/indirectly in every war around the world [Cuban&Spanish war, Korean War, Vietnam, Iran-Iraq, in South America, in Africa...]. We sure like to impose ‘Democracy’. Doesn’t the US help overthow elected officials, but openly support dictators around the world [Papa Doc, The shah of Iran, Saddam, Pinochet, Noriega...as long as they drive our agenda home, right?

According to the inspectors sent in Iran and international law, Iran is following the right protocals. What is the problem, then? They won't do as we order? Why are so bent on using pre-emtive strike on this nation if it doesn't bent over? Along with Obama's 'long talk', pre-emptive strike, like the one use on Iraq, is still on the table.
In addition, we don't even follow our own law-->The Constitution. According to it, Congress declares war. We don't use pre-emptive strikes, and we don't use UN resolutions to go to war. Has the Iranian government threaten the USA? Why are we even considering invading themWe are going to come back...
When these bills [with Bush approval] went through Congress Obama and our elected Democrat Majority Congress of ‘change’ voted FOR them…but he will ‘change’ them once he is president?

“The FISA Bill- before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the president could run around like a chicken with no head spying on anybody all because that’s what he felt like doing. What FISA did was require that the president first get permission from a court before he can have someone spied on. So of course Obama voted yes on that. And you’re concerned about his stand on civil liberties? Well, there’s your answer” Smooth Thug.

The FISA bill all of a sudden becomes RIGHT because it is now a law for the government to violate our privacy? You should be thinking God the US Constitution can be amended to correct the mistakes of politicians.

The War on Drug should be abolish because it is wrong, and it’s not working.
I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. I dislike drugs…legal or illegal . However, I can tell when a government is reaching beyond its given power/purpose. A person drinks & does drug…their rights. It becomes my business if they want to impose their behavior on everyone and when their behavior harms another individual. A good example of a law in place is the one on alcohol. If you harm another by being irresponsible, you pay for it. Why isn’t this in place for drug usage, too, instead of putting people in prison left & right with hard criminals if they are simply caught with it? Why do people who needs Hemp for medical purposes put in prison? Hemp/Marijuana wasn’t always illegal. In fact, Hemp is very useful to society& nature. How so? Why the law against it? –>You will find some useful videos on online/youtube LOL.

    On WallStreet Bailout
“The Wall Street bailout- poor Barack got stuck between a rock and a hard place on that one. If the bailout failed to pass, the financial system would totally fail. Even with the bailout in place, things are still on shakey ground” Smooth Thug.

The current financial system needs to fail to correct itself. If not, welcome longer years of depression. Which one do you prefer, the shorter pain that will fix the problem now, or years and years of agony then amputation follow by a longer depression? The system of printing money out of thin air needs to end. If a person counterfeit money & steal & commit murder, you better believe he will go to jail, yet the government does it…it’s alright? There is no way to justify stealing and wrongfully punishing the working class while rewarding the corrupted with a big fat check to retirement & no time in jail for their crimes. Since it’s not going to help the economy, ask yourself–>why did he vote for it despite all that?

I support Dr P because he understands
-why the US can no longer afford to be an empire morally & economically, so we need to ‘just come home’ or get ready to face the consequenses of our actions.
-The War on Drug is wrong & It’s not working. All it does is put majority of our people in jail with hard criminals, and it messes up any chance of a future.
-how the economy work. He diagnoses the problem and he provides solutions. He even predicted the mess it’s in right now.
-the need to protect our civil liberties. If we break our on rule of law [no matter how small], then, what else is there to keep the government in check and stop it from abusing it’s power?

The difference between Obama and Dr P? When push comes to shove he backs up what he preaches with his voting record. I happen to agree with him, and I appreciate he doesn’t crack under pressure or when he’s in a corner. He does what is right. The records are public folks. They speak for themselves. Don’t just take my words…do your own research online. It’s quite fun to learn new things and look at issues from different perspectives

  33. Her album did chart on the Hot 100, like at 76 or something but fell out…

  34. I mean her song…that awful song “Go Girl”

  35. @ “Misty Knight”.
After reading your post above, it is pure, obvious, and simple to see that the only individual around here who’s “dense”, “blind”, “clueless”, and entirely, absolutely, completely, and thoroughly “clueless” is you! Without any evidence to the contrary, I feel safe in assuming that you not only directed your disparaging remarks to all of these wonderful ladies who post here at Brownsista.com, but you in fact directed those remarks to me as well. On behalf of all of these wonderful ladies ( and I use the term “ladies” to refer to and to describe all of these marvelous women to remind you that they are to be respected and cherished under every circumstance and at all times), I feel that an apology from you is forthcoming and should be given in a prompt and extremely timely manner. I will be waiting.
Now. Let us deal with your mortifying and most disturbing lack of sagacity when it comes to substances of an economic nature. You better tighten your seat belt, it’s gonna be a very bumpy ride; Smooth Thug’s scholastical and pedagogical tutorship and inculcation can be harsh, rigorous, and at times, very acrimonious. Let us begin.
After insulting us all, you then state that something to the effect that artist’s projects are not pushed back to remove “… pressure off of folks pocket books!” Then added, “err isn’t Dec, and Jan holiday season?” “Err” indeed. I don’t care if the project is moved all the way to St. Patrick’s Day (My birthday, by the way), or even all the way to “June Teenth”. If people don’t have enough of what econimists call “disposable income”, people aren’t going to buy a damn thing; without any money, it isn’t going to be much of a “holiday season”.
The key to understanding what I posted is to understand the economic term “disposable income”. What is that? “Disposable income” is ” the residual of personal income including transfer payments, after all direct taxes and national insurance contributions have been deducted”. In other words, “disposable income” is the money one has left over to spend after you’ve payed all of your bills.
Here’s my source: Bannock, Baxter, Rees. “A Dictionary of Economics”. Penguin Books. New York, New York. 1972.
Let’s break that definition of “disposable income” futher…
“Transfer of payments”= your bills, simply put. Anybody with a lick of sense will pay their bills first before they go on a spending binge.
“Direct taxes”= federal income taxes, state and local income taxes that are automatically deducted from your pay check. You do work, don’t you? If you do then you know what I’m talkin’ about when it comes to “direct taxes”. If you don’t work, then get off of your lazy behind and go get a job!
“National insurance contributions”= these are deductions from your pay check for Social Security, Medicare, etc. Again, if you work, then you know what that’s all about. If you don’t work, again, get off of your lazy rear end and get a job!
So there you have it; “disposable income”, put very simlply, is your extra spending money. And right now people don’t have too much of it in their pockets. Let’s move on. Oh, and one last thing. When people have enough “disposable income”, they buy what economists call an “economic good”. An “economic good” is “anything, whether a physical commodity or a service , which yields utility and which commands a price if bought or sold on an open market”. In other words, when people have some extra spending money, they’re going to treat themselves to a music CD or DVD, for example.

    Source: Ibid.

You go on to state, “… if Obama gets elected do you think as soon as he’s inaugerated in January the economy will magically improve?” Let me address that by first talking about the “wealth effect”. The “wealth effect” is the taking into consideration all financial resources including income, pensions, and home. When there is a prolonged rise in the value of assets such as these, then people feel secure enough to go out and spend their money (please see “disposable income” at this time). However, what we are now seeing is totally opposite. Peoples wages are at a stand still, people are now going into their 401K’s and IRA’s for money just to make ends meet. In addition, the value of their homes are falling down through the floor. People are afraid to spend.

Source: Farrell, Christopher. “The performance of stocks and the purchase of socks”. BW online Daily Breifing. Oct. 22, 1999.

Now there’s a flip side to the “wealth effect” According to Mark M. Zandi of Regional Fanancial Associates Inc., household spending goes up $4 for every $100 rise in wealth. In addition, Johns Hopkins University economist Christopher D. Carroll says that more than anything else, consumer spending depends on consumer confidence. And that confidence depends on how secure the consumer feels about the future; how much hope the consumer has that better days are on their way.

Source: Pennar, Karen. “Commentary: The opposite of the Wealth Effect.” Businessweek. Feb. 2, 1999.

So in other words, when Obama becomes our next president, people are going to feel that things are now in the hands of the right man for the job. And when they start to feel better, they start to spend some money. Or as you so profoundly ( yeah, right  ) put it, things will “magically improve”.
You go on and ask a rhetorical guestion: If Obama wins, will the “middle class… go all consumer crazy?” Don’t be silly; of course not. But they will see hope in the future and begin to feel secure again. And that will result in them spending a little more money ( please see “magically improve” above).
Now as far as people spending their “tax relief on a damn CD?” goes, as people’s taxes come down slightly resulting in a little more extra spending money, they will begin buying more of the things they feel they need. What’s left over with be used to buy that CD, those shoes, that dress, etc. (please see “economic good” and “disposable income).
“Dense”? “Blind”? “Uninformed”? “Clueless”? Indeed. I sincerely hope that this crash course in economics has softened up your skull a bit, opened your eyes, informed and apprized you, and gave you a clue as to what is going on. Now, as I said earlier, I’ll be expecting an apology from you on behalf of all the ladies here at Brownsista.com. In addition, your homework assignment will be to write me a 50 word paper on the word “pedagogical” and another 50 word paper on the economic concept of “disposable income”. These 2 assignments are due on my desk first thing monday morning at 8 A.M. sharp! Class is dismissed.

  36. Glad you used youre “Word Calendar” and the copy and paste commands for youre “informative” rant, I dont do apologies, and you might wanna calm youre simple, tragically idealogical behind down somewhere before you run up youre blood pressure! the jist of my comment was that this is the year of album pushbacks, not because the music biz gives a crap about the woes of the consumer. The music industry has been hemmoraging for years due to downloading, Ciara’s being pushed back because of lack of sales , and single leaks just like several other artists, its simple.I just found it funny that folks made it seem as if pushing ones album back was charitable, as opposed to a record companys lack of confidence in an artists selling power. Honestly I dont know one person who actually goes and purchaces an album these days, and I doubt that they will even if any relief in the middle class occurs, not as long as limewire, itunes, and free downloading is available. And spare me , I am fully aware what “disposable” income means. Ironically the movie industry unlike the music industry has been on of the few sectors of the economy not affected by the recent recession. Somehow consumers have managed to spare thier scarce “disposable income” and splurge it on going to the theaters ( which is hella expensive), because they feel it is worth the money. Unfortuantely this is not the case for the music biz, downloading and harsh economic times have birthed the era of the “Singles Artist”, very few artist will have high album sales, and the same will be the case years from now. So please save youre bloated rants about 401k’s, and taxes and the “hope of the consumer”and whatever the hell else youre longwinded behind is yammering about, it has more to do with an ailing industry , less to do with Obama, and middle class tax relief. now youre homework assignment is to drink a warm glass of Ovaltine , pop in some Kenny G, and calm youre irratic behind down before you give youreself a hernia!

  37. @ “Misty Knight”.
I not only see that you are uncuth and ill-mannered ( “I dont do apologies…”), I also see that you’re illiterate. It’s “don’t”, not “dont”; it’s “you’re”, not “youre”; it’s “their”, not “thier”; it’s company’s”, not “companys”. Please do yourself a favor and learn to spell. In addition, ” ‘Word Calender’ ” or not, I also see that I’m endowed with a greater aptitude than you are when it comes to the command and use of the English vernacular. “Yammering”? Is that the best you’ve got? Try this one on for size: what you did in your above post is “bray”. Further, ” copy and paste” or not, what I posted was based on sound empirical evidence that has been gathered in accordance and conformity with research principles as established by the scholastic and academic community in general, and by the discipline of economics in particular. With that in mind, what are your sources? “Access Hollywood”? “People” magazine? Your local newspaper? And even if those are in fact your sources, such as they are, what you have done is “copy and paste” as well. Haven’t you? So don’t give me any of your “Word Calender” and “copy and paste” bull you-know-what!
It has also become abundantly clear to me that you, in turn, have missed the “jist” of what I was trying to get at. Yes the music industry is “hemmoraging” ( IT”S NOT “hemmoraging”, IT’S “HEMORRHAGING”! Your spelling is atrocious.Your punctuation is sadly lacking as well. Lord, have mercy. ) money left and right, I agree. “Single leaks”, “downloading”, legal or otherwise, iTunes, etc., have taken a big toll. However, I also say that sales are down because people just don’t have the money right now. “Ailing industry” you say? Yes. And one of those ailments is a public that is afraid to spend some money.
The movie industry? Appearently, people attach more value to movies than they do to music. Why? Movies offer an easy way to indulge their fantasies and escape all of this financial mess we’re all in (Please see “Economic Good” in my previous post.).
“Longwinded”? “Bloated rants”? Those are my problems? Well, here’s only a small portion of yours: you very exceedingly and most profusely “bray”.
Since you have dealt with the concept of “disposable income” in an academically vapid way, and have totally neglected the word “pedegogical”, I am giving you a “D”. You are now officially on academic probation. Your continued lack of sufficient scholarly performance will result in me issuing you a failing grade. If such a situation does in fact occur, I will be left with no other choice but to expel you, on a permanent basis, from the university. But don’t drop your load in your underwear just yet; this is only the midway point of the semester. So here’s what you do: go get you some “intelligent” pills and take every last one of them all at once. The reason for that, and here’s the other portion of your problem, is that you are afflicted with a triple case of “hernia” of the brain.
PULL YOUR HEAD OUT! EDUCATE YOUR THINKING!

  38. Oh God you again? :lol2:
Seeing as how youre a long time poster on this site one could assume you would have a high tolerance level for spelling, and punctuation errors! however it is interesting as opposed to attacking my logic, you instead chose to harp on my “atrocious” spelling. No I dont use copy and paste, its not that serious and I hate Access Hollywood , I dont need to gather “sound empirical evidence” to argue with some anonymous grown *** man/woman on a blog! Nor do I intend to debate about the economy, “disposable income” tax plans or whatever other topic you digressed to. My logic was short and simple and Ill repeat it so that maybe a “mental giant” of youre stature can attempt to dumb themselves down to comprehend such base understanding! If Ciaras record company thought that if in todays economy she could push units, then they would release it asap! this is not her first pushback, and I seriously doubt that in December this countrys economy will be in any better condition, I could only assume theyre trying to get an some extra promotion time, to garner buzz for her album…thats it. Do ya see how simple that was?! there are several other artist who have had recent releases, and upcoming releases who have and will be successful, despite the current economy because of album buzz, and excited fanbases ie;, Brittany Spears, Beyonce, etc’, and if Im not mistaken artist like TI, are still moving respectable units despite the economic downturn. And if artist are waiting for economic optimism before releasing any LP’s they might as well push thier albums back to ST.Patricks Day!
Now look Im gonna take a stab in the dark and conclude that youre a little too long in the tooth for such bitter, and unrelentless, cyber banter, so lets take a deep breath, close all our”informative windows” and agree to disagree. Cuz in the grand scheme of things its just not damn serious…umkay Snookums?!
    Great !

  39. Vote Obama Nov 4.08

Whatta surprise!!!! I knew her album would be pushed back…. I wonder why she or her record label wanted to put it out around the same time as Bey’s anyway…. does that even make sense….. CiCi can’t compete sales-wise!

Also, The first single that was released is a HOT MESS! Not many ppl are feeling it, they should have released something else…. *shrugs*

  40. @ Smooth Thug

:lol2: You done gone gorilla on this post. I appreciate your view of history and the music industry.

    @Snijana Fleur

For once :iagree: with your views on something. I have long been a supporter of third

parties. I don’t see much difference between Mc Cain and Obama. Since the economy depends largely on consumer confidence (as long as there is not a run on the banks), there will be a slight positive impact on the economy if Obama is elected. People gon’ wanna celebrate! There’s a party over here…. :hifive:

As far as Ciara and the state of the music business in general…..I still say that who owns the radio stations is just as much of an issue as controlling the distribution of digital music. Kids, bloggers, professionals who use computers regularly and many folks under the age of 35, are comfortable with downloading music. Most others are still waiting for the radio to bring them the latest. Clear Channel (radio) & Viacom (MTV & BET) does not feel it is their obligation to enlighten us by supporting creative new artist. They just keep giving us the same ‘ole crap with a new face on it. I am surprised the music companies have not figured out a way to get around this. I don’t have an answer for this myself. So called music lovers need to wake up! We need a revolution y’all.

You know the movie industry was in shambles in the late sixties but the studios kept making films. When studios began taking risks and producing grittier, more realistic entertainment and began showcasing other voices (blaxplotation) people returned to the movies again.
