Danai Gurira is gracing the inside pages of the October edition of DuJour magazine. The Walking Dead actress stuns in a colorful six-page spread, which was lensed and styled by photographers Peter Ash and Paul Frederick.
Danai is presently having a career defining moment as a playwright, having landed Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o to star in her off-Broadway play Eclipsed. “It’s exciting working with Lupita,” Danai told DuJour. “I wrote this play specifically with her in mind.”
Eclipsed centers on the lives of five Liberian women trying to ink out an existence during the country’s long-running civil war. On why she chose to tackle such a complex issue, Danai said “I was enthralled by an image I saw in the New York Times of women in the Liberian war, dressed very hip and looking very formidable. I was immediately keen to one day pursue the story and bring it to the stage.”
You can see Eclipsed until November 29th at New York’s Public Theater. Reviews have so far been stellar.
