Dereon Girls A Little Too Adult?

Dereon Baby So I am sitting back reading my new issue of Vibe Magazine, which always arrives late, and lo and behold I see a new promo ad for Dereon Girls. No big deal- I keep reading. After a second look at the magazine and the ad I noticed something very oh-my-god-ish. Take a look at the ad to your right and see if you see it too? Did you spot it? It’s the shoes! Look at the boots the 2 little girls have on in that ad. Those boots are so not fit to be worn by a child the age of the child in the ad or any youngster for that matter. Still, I love them. They are so hot. Little girls aren’t suppose to be hot though so I gotta give Dereon Girls a thumbs down for this look. Also, as a mother of a ten year old girl I can tell you that young girls clothing over the years has gotten extremely inappropriate. Clothing for pre-teens are as tight, hip hugging and revealing as clothing for grown women. I have even seen thongs for little girls and you know that ain’t right. So on one level I can look at the ad and the clothing and think the kids are cute in a “dress up like my mama kind of way”. However, if these are actual clothing and shoes from the Dereon Girls line, I will not be supporting it. Dereon Girls needs to look more girl-ish and less woman-ish or this line will go the way of their high end Dereon line- down the toilet.

Well, the Knowles Machine continues to run at full steam…unfortunately. This line isn’t even in the parking lot of the ballpark of say, Sean John kids, or Baby Phat kids, so when you take a sub-par line (read: :booty: ) and mix it it with garbage marketing that takes little girls and puts them in me ‘f@#k me’ heels like it’s ‘cute’…well…you end up with Dereon…keep living the dream…

I’m not a mother, and most likely I never will be. However, those clothes are not appropriate for children. Dressing children like adults is not cute, and there are some super sick people out there that are after kids. This is not helping. It gives me that same odd feel when I see parents dressing kids up for pageants with full make-up, wigs, and heels. It just has a very dark tone to it for me.

I think when most fashion lines start to make clothing for kids, they rely mainly on the name of the label. Little shirts and track suits with the logo is what most people are fine with, and it’s still stylish. Heels are most definitely a no-go, but I think in the ad they may be supposed to be “dressing up”, since the red heels look adult sized. But it’s not presented well at all.

I say make that main line extraordinary before you tackle the Kids world.

Unfortunately, we are living in a day and age where people think it is cute for little girls to act and dress like adults especially when it will put a few dollars in their wallets. Beyonce’s parents had Destiny’s Child on stage, provocatively dressed like grown women, and dancing like no fifteen year old girl should, so this ad shouldn’t be a surprise to any of us.

I agree Fashonista. I ALWAYS felt that Destiny’s child was a bunch of make up and no clothes. This is not a personal attack on Beyonce, but seriously this is dangerous and people may not think so but it is. This day in age girls are getting faster and faster and clothes and shoes like this don’t help. Things like this make me wanna go run and pray b/c they are our future….they are THEIR future too. This should not be. I am not knocking their creativity but I think this ought to be pulled. And you know what, its not just the shoes. Its everything if you ask me. Children should be children until age appropriate. If I had a daughter the age of the children in this ad…..they would not be wearing this stuff at all. Thats how it all starts. What ever happend to OSH-KOSH-B’GOSH :stop:

The problem is this whole crazy society. THERE ARE BEAUTY CONTESTS FOR LITTLE GIRLS EVEN YOUNGER THAN THESE ONES ON THE PICS. Society has made little girls look older for over 30 years and people wonder why so many crazy stuff happen to them. Those little girls are NOT supposed to look “hot” at that age like you said. I’m not quick to blame women on every single thing, cause I hate when the blame is a little too often put on us and has been since forever, but I blame THE MOTHERS! Sometimes these young girls keep acting too grown cause too many mamas ENCOURAGE THAT thinking it’s adorable to see their 14-year-old EMULATE them or Beyonce or Christina Milian, booty shorts, high heels, golden eyeshadow, honey blonde haircolor, the whole nine. We are the models to our daughters, we can’t be buying G-Strings for little 10 year old girls (I’ve SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES!!!!!) like that sh*t is cute, paint their nails red and make them wear foundation to win awards and everything. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!! There was another ad with kids playing “baby missy, baby beyonce, baby jay-z, baby gwen stefani” and so on and I didn’t like it. Of course I’ve played dress up when I was a kid, but guess what, I didn’t do it more than TWICE because my mom TOOK THE SHOES OFF AND WASHED MY FACE WHEN SHE SAW ME, first time she explained to me that was adult stuff, not for the kids, and why I couldn’t take them, second time she whooped my ***. Never did it again. She did what a mother was s’posed to do.

I don’t give A DAMN if y’all call me too stuck up or a hater, this is how I feel. Exposing that sh*t (sorry for being rude, I’m a bit pissed off) like it’s too damn cute is PATHETIC! Thank you Brownsista for bringing that up! I’m all for uplifiting my sistas, but when something is wrong then it is wrong! Shame on DEREON!!

I came here expecting something really illegal or explicit. Those darling little people are dressed up in oversized lady’s clothing.

I read all of the comments, and I think the ugly and unintelligent interpretations have more to do with the dirty minds of the writers.

Too bad so many women have to express the ugliness in themselves onto these small children and onto the Knowles family for having the nerve to be a brighter shade of Black and entrepreneurs.

I like Black successful people. More power to them. Whether they are bright, brown or dark.

These are all of the shades in my own family. So, this rabid kind of Black on Black hatred is bothe disturbingly backward and insulting.

At first glance I saw what the writer saw but after reading all the comments I see something else. I see quite a few things now as a matter of fact. The blonde child is suppose to be Beyonce and the others, especially the group pic at the top looks like her band. We all seem to have our own interpretation of the ad but whatever yours is, the ad sux and is hardly cute or child like. I guess it’s time for me to get in on the action as well  I see little girls dressed up like grown women. I think they are suppose to be miniature versions of Dereon women, thus the line is named Dereon GIRLS. I also took the time to go look at Dereon Girls online and the line consists so far of what you see in the ad above. I saw all the jeans, jackets, t-shirts but no not shoes or boots. I don’t think the ad is provocative or too adult but it is confusing and doesn’t really send a clear message. That’s the ad agencies fault though, not Mama Tina’s.

They obviously don’t have much creative vision for their clothing because the clothes for teens/women look cheap and now the stuff for kids looks way to adult. How is it ‘dress-up’ when those shoes are made to fit the little ones’ feet??? and then they match with the rest of the ensemble; seems to me that the child would wear the white boots with the outfit and the red heels with the outfit as seen in the other picture.

The only thing about these clothes that bother me are the stripper heels that are REAL and in my humble opinion NOT MEANT for dress-up.

The clothes are kinda cute in a urban way, but the stripper, hooker, come do me shoes have got to go. Some people have said they are just play dress up. Call me old fashioned( I consider myself classy) but when I played dress up with my mothers things it was with pearl necklaces and clear lips gloss. That was as far as it went. I guess with this new generation of women and mothers this is acceptable yet sad.

I have noticed that children’s clothing started looking like smaller adult clothes some years ago. In fact limited too and limited would sell the same exact stuff! I remember the track suits w/ writing on the ***. One day I saw a girl of about 8 wearing those. Someone please explain why an 8-year old needs to call attention to her ***? As for the thongs, I am disgusted that a company would even make those.

If i squint in my mind’s eye, I can see the argument that this ad campaign is supposed to depict little girls playing dress up. In all honesty, it’s a ver, very narrow squint with a tiny bit of “benefit of the doubt” thrown in. Why? Because little girls who are playing dress up generally don’t end up looking like sex pots - the clothes are usually too large, mismatched, and they have make-up smeared all over them and everything else in sight. That’s not the case in the ad shown above. These are well coiffured mini (adult looking) women. And therein lies the problem. It should not take a double-take to figure out the message of an ad campaign. When you see an ad about kids — and little girls in particular — the response should be “Oh, how cute!” The fact that about 90% (not in anyway a scientific stat) of the comments related to this entry find that the content of the ad is oversexualized should tell the House of Dereon (I assume that’s the parent co.) that they missed the mark on this. Plain and simple, the “playing dress up” excuse er … theme is a loonnngg stretch.

But the conversation shouldn’t end there. In the context of what has happened — and is happening — with respect to the way Black women and girls are depicted in the media as oversexed and amoral, I see this ad as nothing more than another assault on our womanhood. These little girs — dare I say it — are sexy and brooding, not cute. Why can’t our girls (and yes, I recognize that there are non-Black children in the ad but the target market is our kids) look cute and frilly? What has happened that advertisers believe it’s ok to market the vixen look for tots? What has happened is that we haven’t call them to account for their actions - Let it slid by because of who may have been attached to the project. You know how we are - don’t want to rock the boat for so and so because we all know how hard it is for a sister/brother to make it in the industry. Yea right! No more!

When someone does something to offend you, what do you do? You act on it. Well if you find that this and other advertisements offensive do something about it. Write to the House of Dereon and let them know how you feel. And don’t stop there - if you see this ad in your favorite magazines, write to the editor and let them know that they need to stop running the ad or you will end your subscription — and will encourage your mother, sister, friends, sorority sisters etc. to end their subscriptions too. Because it’s all about the almighty $$$ - designers, advertisers and the like don’t care about any of us, until we pull back the almighty $$$. And ladies, we have a whole lotta $$$ - spend (unnecessarily) more than any other group on discretionary items. So tonight, pull out your best stationary and write a note to our sister friends the Knowles’ (the way they are deified I assume many of you know them personally) and let them know that while the almighty $$$ drove them to make certain questionable choices for their girls, you’ve decided on a different, more chaste route for your young lady and that if they want your business, they will have to UPGRADE their merchandise and advertising and if not, they will soon find that they are not IRREPLACABLE.

I think the ad is suppose to portray the girls playing dress up because the shoes look like adult size shoes..but when I first saw this ad in Vibe I was also like what the heck!!!! The make up on the girls looks perfect, not like a child did it in a dress up type situation, so that makes it looks a little child “pornographyish”. So I don’t think the ad is coming across that well. They should think about redoing this one.

“How is it ‘dress-up’ when those shoes are made to fit the little ones’ feet??? ”

I didn’t even notice that. LOL. I see your point.

The shoes are too big but the look and the entires scheme on this is too much. It’s too much for the little girls. it’s too gaudy and it still dont make me want to buy it for my little Angel. It’s still too much for me and I love Bee but this was not the ticket to me!

THe animal prints, the black jump suits are too grown. I don’t dress my little one in Black at all. It’s too much and grown and I see everyone’s point. Especially if they have a little on between the ages of 1 to 10. Its too much. The shoes just killed the look even more to me. But that’s my thoughts. LOL :)

I agree with LavishChic…you can tell this picture is not a representation of what they want little girls to wear. What little girl is going to actually walk in high heels?!?! I personally thought the ad was a fake but it is indeed real I don’t think its as serious as it looks. Honestly, no one is really going to see little girls wearing bedazzled boots and high heels.

I agree these girls look like some young prositutes, what is our society coming too?
Reminds me of the young Renea Ramsey girl that was killed back in the early 90’s ,they say by her uncle, she was only 6 years old,but they had her looking like she was 25 years old, this dressing up little young girls to look like grown woman,
is part of some sick perverk’s fettish, some one off the looney fram perhaps, some one with a serious mental condition
And by the way they never truly solved her murder,or caugth the murderer, there are some very sick people out there who will do any thing for money, they manipulate woman, string them long on drugs and use them for pronograpic movies, and for prositution, run away girls are killed and are used for profit almost every day, these Men are praised as being some Men of respect and honor, the dirty side of organized crime that the media won’t show you, they glamourize it as being something to mimmic, something to look up to,but these men are in to every thing from extortion, child prositution, and even murder
So it’s proabily the reason why Renea Ramsey case has never been solved, and the media never even mentions it,as if it don’t exisit,or she never exisited, what are they doing paying these people off or something?,and this Nation has the nerve to say”In God we trust”,God is not behind this country,or the sick societies that run it.  :

:iagree: with wow. It’s obvious that the girls are “playing dress up” the boots in the picture and heels do not fit. People seem extremely quick to jump to the ‘opposing side’ before truly looking and analyzing the picture. Excluding the shoes which obviously are not meant to fit, the line does not appear suggestive at all IMO.

head to toe,COINSIDENCE?,I don’t think so,we live in a very sick and perverted society, this is not an accident to why they would even advertised these babies to look like that anyway
And as far as heels turning a man on Chant’e,yes you’re right, but they only turn me on when woman are wearing them, not incense little girls,What sick pervert can be turned on by babies wearing high heels? :loser: :bag:    :stop:

The one little girl is wearing the white Dereon Russia boot and another is wearing the Dereon Thailand boot

    http://www.dereon.com/nshop/pr.....e=Footwear

But still, do they make those small enough for wee little ones? The sizes go from 6-10 (regular). Are those little girls size 6 in the foot? regular??? Or are they REALLY planning to make these shoes available for the chillens.

Some of their shoes are cute. For whatever that’s worth. :)

hey brownsista i’m a one time poster just dropping by a friend’s house so i therefor apologize if i offend anyone with the following comment:

my concern is the fact that if it was an other female’s clothing line things would probably not being blow out of proportion i dont particulary dislike beyonce i’ve been to an concert and even thougth i felt like i’ve waisted my money she is no one that i particulary hate
but her “artist reputation” has a lot to do with the way her lines is perceived and its sad if she was classier and more dressed i wouldn’t see any problem with the add and would have probably fell under the bunch of people that believe that the girls are actually playing dressed up but the fact that beyonce is all but a saint make me look at the ads in a whole other way…
    and that’s sad

I would believe they were playing dressing up a bit more if their faces said “Wow, this is so much fun, dressing up!.” I think that is the point now that I look at it and have read over a lot of discussion, but anyone with half of a mind for advertising could do better than this. When you flip through a magazine, you should flip past an ad and immediately get the point. No confusion, no odd feelings, it’s just Bam! You get the point.

I don’t think the heels are necessary, nor the serious look the girls have.Jewelery, lipgloss, too much. Put a happy kid with a bow, a smile, and a little dress or tracksuit and you’re done. They could’ve just put a Big Sister/Mother dressed in Dereon for adults and a kid, and it would’ve been fine I think.

Ok, wait a minute…Whether these little girls are playing dress up or not, they look like grown women. We don’t want our daughters, nieces, sisters and cousins who are below the customary or legal age appearing as grown women. I grew up with my mother telling me to “STAY IN A CHILDS PLACE”, and that should apply to ALL children in every aspect of those words. Again, I quote a few of the people who left comments, “There are nasty, evil, people in this world who take advantage of and pray on our children.” The minute some nasty old man looks at these children the wrong way, the parents are going to wonder why! Why, you ask? Because they LOOK OLD ENOUGH, THAT’S WHY!!! That doesn’t give perverts the right to prey on our children, but dressing an innocent child in this type of attire AND advertising it for the world to see can be a little enticing to a sex offender with a healthy appetite for children. I adore children, but this is a bit much and it’s not cute. If this is a matter of playing dress up, they’ve gone too far by advertising it. This type of activity, to this extreme, in my opinion needs to take place behind closed doors between little siblings and small cousins who sneak into Mommy or Aunty’s closet picking out what they think are the prettiest dresses, overspraying perfume and tripping in high heeled shoes while breaking jewelry by accident. NOW THAT’S INNOCENT! Children Are innocent…the parents and guardians of these children, not so much. What’s next? Will we take it a step further and allow our children to start advertising clothes while sitting behind the wheel of an expensive sports car with a stuffed bra, or chillin’ in a club with a “fake” drink in their little hands, or maybe start advertising “kiddie lingerie”…This is truly the beginning of the end if we continue on this way by handing our children over to society in this manner.

People please don’t under estimate the Knowles klan. If some parent is crazy enough to buy those white boots for their little girls than those hungrey hippos will make them. The Knowles are all about money and they don’t care how corrupt their ideas are as long as some idiot is willing to pay for them. I guess no one fell for B-day and that’s why Beyonce had to go into overtime to make the album work or get dropped from her label :loser: It looks like Alicia Keys want have that problem though and she has definately landed a spot for a tour next year based upon her current album sales in one week. I Didnt see any unappropriate clothing in the ad…No skin was shown..
Also, THOSE HEELS were CLEARLY the kids playing in them like dress up! You can see that they are WAY TOO BIG..People need to leave that girl alone. If you dont like it, then dont put your child in it. Mostly all little girls play in their moms shoes or whoevers. This is ridiculous that people can critique something that was clearly meant to be innocent. Thats sad. Shows what kind of a world we currently live in. Whats grown about the clothes anyway?? Because from what I see…there is no red flag that comes across my mind!
