Dreamgirls Sets Pre-Release Record

Dreamgirls recently broke a box office record as the highest per-screen opening in the history of movie musicals. In limited release, Paramount & Dreamworks opened Dreamgirls in three theaters in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco ahead of its national release on Christmas Day. Thanks in part to its $25 ticket price which included a Broadway-style experience with reserved seating and a limited-edition program book, the advance screenings earned an estimated $360,000 for an unprecedented $120,000 per screen average. All 21 shows over the weekend were sold out.Dreamgirls will open nationally on December 25th. in a modest 800 theatres.I have added a few more high quality posters that I found online featuring all three of the Dreams, Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose and Beyonce Knowles. Nyter!!

  1. The posters are beautiful and it is nnice to see Anika and Jennifer with their own poster for once.

    Merry X-Mas Brown Sistas 🙂

  2. That picture of Jennifer is really moving. She looks like she is singing the hell outta that song. The poster of Beyonce is hot too.She is wearing that Afro.It looks very Dian Ross circa Mahogany.Anika looks beautiful also and I am glad she is getting some shine.I cannot wait to see her and Edie on the screen together.

  3. All of the newspapers and the news are raving over Jennifer I am so proud of that woman! They say she is a natural to say she’s never been an actress before it comes so natural to her. They say Beyonce looked good but her singing and acting skills has nothing on Jennifer! Duh could’ve told anybody that!

  4. IT REALLY BOTHERS ME THAT JENNIFER CANNOT RECIEVE A COMPLIMENT WITHOUT TRYING TO TAKE SOMETHING AWAY FROM BEYONCE. THE ROLES WERE ESTABLISHED WHEN EVERYONE SIGNED ON FOR THE MOVIE. BEYONCE CONSTANTLY SPOKE ABOUT THE MOVIE BECAUSE SHE WAS PROUD OF THE MOVIE. SHE NEVER ESTABLISHED HERSELF AS THE STAR OF THE MOVIE THE MEDIA DID. SHE DID A FABULOUS JOB. JENNIEFR WAS WONDERFUL AS WELL. BEYONCE IS A PROVEN SUPERSTAR AND JENNIFER WILL BE A HUGE STAR IN HER OWN RIGHT,CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM BOTH AND THE WHOLE CAST. :brownsista:

  5. Face it, Beyonce will always be hated. She is still paying for het father booting the other girls out of the group, even though it was damn near ten years ago.Beyonce can do no right in the eyes of anyone and will always be dogged no matter what she does.I have given up even trying to defend her against those who want to see her fail for no reason other than pure hatred.

  6. People have to face (beyonce fans) her voice is ok her acting skills are atrocious! She looks cute on the movie, skinny as hell but cute, and that’s all she has going. Jennifer put it down!

  7. Everyone in the movie killed it.There were no weak links.Beyonce held her own? Why can’t people just admit that? Yeah Jennifer’s role was meatier but Beyonce’s scenes called for some skillz as well and she did the damn thing.

  8. I knew Dreamgirls was going to be open big.I think it will have a nationwide opening of about 20,000,000 dollars.Anything below that will be seen as a flop. It’s sad a movie starring 3 huge Black celebs can only pull that much but I’m pretty sure that’s about as much as it will do.I was hoping for something really spectacular like maybe 25-30,000,000 dollars but with the movie only opening in 800 theaters I just don’t see that happening.I guess there are still many places in this country where you still can’t show movies starring Black folk.

  9. I saw the movie today and it was wonderful.I was there this morning when my neighborhood theater opened and it was already packed.Tickets were sold out but I got the $5.00 hook-up from one of the ushers and I’m glad I did.

Everyone will thoroughly enjoy this movie because it is good from beginning to end.Yes Jennifer Hudson is as good as you heard and Beyonce held her own with no problem. She will be considered a real actress after this.I expect Hollywood will continue to knock on her door.

Jamie Foxx is a scum bucket in the movie and you just want to whip his :booty: .

Eddie Murphy’s talents were overrated to me though. He was the only let down for me.Everytime he sang I thought of the father from The Klumps because that is the same voice he used.He wasn’t bad but he won’t be winning any Oscars if you ask me.

Overall the movie was great and I’m going back this weekend with friends.

  10. Beyonce is a good looking woman w/great song writing skills. I don’t know about her personality 😕 There is something about her that seems a little selfish and greedy for spotlight. I don’t think everyone is hating, I just think it’s too much of her right now. I know she had an album & has a movie to promote. I think the key to longevity it sitting back for a moment. Perhaps she will after this.

  11. Just going by what the critics say Beyonce just looked good in the movie! Fans are going to hold her down but the real is she cannot act! Period! She has a nice voice, poppy as hell but decent.

  12. I thought the movie was overrated. It is mostly hype.I enjoyed parts of the movie but other parts moved rather slowly and bored me to death. No one has a break role if you ask me and both Jennifer and Eddie’s performances were just okay.Even Jamie Fox, who himself lucked out and got an Oscar, is not that great.Beyonce did well but I give it to her for her singing rather than acting. She really did remind me of Diana Ross. All in all the movie was fair but not worth seeing again.

  13. I agree. I saw the movie this weekend and it was overrated. I think the movie was good but the media made it sound like it was spectacular. Beyonce’s acting was much better but I don’t think it was oscar worthy. None of the acting was oscar worthy to me. Jennifer Hudson sang that song w/such soul. If they give awards for singing/performances, by all means, she should get one:thumbsup:
