No Reality Series for Erykah Badu

Has Erykah Badu and rapper D.O.C. rekindled their relationship? According to DOC… yes. According to Erykah- absolutely not!

In an interview with The Dallas Observer, D.O.C. says he has recently been living part-time with Erykah and their 7-year daughter Puma- and that he hopes to incorporate the pair’s blended family into his upcoming reality series “I Got My Voice Back.” (Badu has a son by rapper Andre 3000 and another daughter by rapper Jay Electronica). In fact, D.O.C. says he wants the show to culminate in the two stars getting married.

Those words quickly got back to Erykah, who dispatched her people to release a statement cleaning up D.O.C.’s comments.

“Erykah has no plans to marry or have any sort of courtship with the D.O.C. Ms. Badu has no plans to allow a reality show to be filmed in her private Dallas residence or to include any of her children in the filming. Ms. Badu has no concrete plans further than a guest appearance in his reality show. The D.O.C.’s comments were either taken out of context, improperly interpreted, or reflective of his now, not-so-secret desires. Whatever the case, Erykah wishes D.O.C. well both spiritually and professionally.”

And in a bit of not so salacious news, Erykah is scheduled to attend and speak at the first ever Natural Hair Parade & Festival. The event will be held September 3rd in Erykah’s hometown of Dallas, Texas.

The event is the brainchild of Dallas based natural hairstylist Isis Brantley. “We’re calling for sponsors, schools, churches, community organizations, bands, clubs, parents, and children of all ages to join us as we celebrate and share knowledge,” she said in a press release.

Her good friend Badu has challenged her to get four hundred people to march in the parade! To help reach her goal, Isis is asking natural ladies to send out the following tweet: “Natural Hair Parade & Festival by @Naturallyisis Sept. 3, 2011 Dallas, TX #Naturalhair #Laboroflove FREE RSVP.”

  1. Anybody who is familiar with Erykah knows that she is a control freak and would never attach her name to a reality series or even be apart of one. That’s just not in her character. He definitely tried it when he released those statements. lol

  2. When is this ‘BUFFOONERY’, called reality shows, going to stop? I swear we, as Black people, continue to wanna act a fool for someone else amusement who doesn`t give a damn about us but only seeks to exploit us. We continue to play our HISTORICAL roles as we seek to go along in order to get along. When, or maybe I should ask, will, my people ever wake up?

Everyday The ‘WHITE MEDIA’ continues to program us with their very subtle, unspoken, messages through mass media. It`s their in their commercials as we view our fav. shows and then we file it away in our subconscious. Here`s what beauty looks like, wooly hair is ugly, act like this and we will accept you, Black skin is not look upon favorably. These are the messages that are conveyed in our subconscious and most of us can`t see it…not all, but most. Let us not be pigs led to the slaughter.

Michael Jackson & The GOLDEN 80s 4ever!!! R.I.P. MASTER SHOWMAN.

Peace, in the spirit of my HERO, Brotha Macolm X. R.I.P. BROTHA Malcolm.

  3. Reality TV will had its beginning way back when (MTV Real World), is at present at its prime, but will soon BURN OUT. Mark my words. People are going to want to be entertained again with shows like the sitcoms, dramas of old.

Or maybe not. Reality TV is co-partnered in an incestuous, salacious relationship with the many various avenues of social networking and internet in general…bringing you one step, two steps, three steps, four clicks *closer* to celebrities and now wannabe/aspire-to-be/overnight celebrities.

In reference to the topic, when I first heard of D.O.C’s plans I knew there was no way E.Badu would be involved. I mean, aside from her performances onstage, on award shows, in music videos and interviews in print and online how often do we ‘see’ her? Twitter account notwithstanding. Reality TV seems like something she wouldn’t be bothered with or allow her children to be a part of.

With that said, good luck with the parade. I would drive up in support, but I live next door to Hell’s back entrance with temps ranging from 100 to 109 degrees! I go to work and go home these hot summer days. lol

  4. 3 kids by 3 different fathers, is that right???? Just an observation, I know we rip men for it but what about females? I’ve always thought Erykah was cool though.

  5. ON ONE HAND I TOTALLY AGREE THAT BLACKS ARE BEING EXPLOITED TO BENIFIT THOSE WHO ARE IN CONTROL. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I CAN AGREE THAT REALITY SHOWS AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY ALLOW BLACKS TO MAKE MONEY. BUT I HAVE A QUESTION, SHOULD BLACK PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW WHITE MEDIA CONTROL OUR IMAGES, WHEN IN FACT WE SHOULD AT THIS POINT CONTROL OUR OWN DESTINY AND IMAGE? WHEN ROBERT JOHSON WAS PLANNING ON SELLING BET TO VIACOM, HOW MANY BLACK MILLIONAIRES OR BILLIONAIRES PUT A BID IN TO BUY IT? WHY IS TV1 A BLACK OWNED NETWORK, NOT PRODUCING ANYTHING OF SUBSTANCE, NO REAL PROGRAMMING, AND ONLY SHOW RE-RUNS OF BAFFOONERY? YOU HAVE THESE INFLUENTIAL BLACKCELEBS WITH MONEY , NOT PRODUCING ANYTHING WORTH WATCHING? SO, WE SHOULD BE LOOKING AT BLACK HOLLYWOOD NOT THOSE WHO RUN HOLLYWOOD WITH A CONDEMNING EYE? THERE IS MONEY WITH THE BLACK ECONOMIC ELITE. WE CONTROL OUR DESTINY, IT’S JUST THAT THOSE WHO HAVE THE DOLLARS AREN’T MAKING REAL INVESTMENTS IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY, YET CRY OF RACISM. EVERYTHING ISN’T ABOUT RACISM, IT’S ABOUT A DOLLAR. WHITE EXECUTIVES ARE USING THE SAME FORMULA TO SELL BLACK PRODUCTS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE HAD MEDIOCRE SUCCESS WITH IT,BUT WE NEED TO CREATE OUR OWN SUCCESS STORIES. LIKE WHY DIDN’T TV1 PICK UP THE RE-RUNS OF THE FIRST LADIES DECTIVE AGENCY , BUT PICKED UP SHOWS LIKE MARTIN AND GOOD TIMES. AND THE ULTIMATE MERGER.
