Erykah Badu Covers Essence Magazine
“Honey” singer, Erykah Badu, is sitting pretty at the top of the charts, as her “New Amerykah” CD has entered the Billboard 200 at #2, coming in right behind Janet Jackson and yielding sales of 124,000. Next up for Erykah is appearing on the cover of Essence Magazine’s April 2008 issue. To your right, you can see Erykah and her beautiful fro in all it’s splendor. Inside the issue Erykah covers the usual, her eclectic brand of music and fashion, as well as her past relationships and what it’s like being a single mom to two young children. Look for Erykah next to hit the road on a summer tour and you can look for this issue of Essence to hit newsstands on March 12th. And we must give Erykah an extra shout out for giving Janet a run for her money at the #1 spot on Billboard. As much as we love Janet here, we must give our sista Erykah credit for selling so well, and with very little promotion. Two sistas ruling the Billboard charts is definitely something to sing about and we love and support them both here.

Funny, this is the first time I’m hearing Erykah’s album is topping the charts…Wow, way to go girl!!!! As a ‘fro rocking sista I’ve always been inspired by her look and style but I was “blown away” by her wig snafu at Dave Chapelle’s Block Party! :lol2: Since then I’m not afraid to add dramatic hair pieces to my ‘fro (making sure they have a comb!!!)…and now even have an elaborate collection of wigs. You must admit though that snafu was funny but like a trooper she kept the show going! :thumbsup: :brownsista:

Erykah is cool and all but she never gave Janet a run for the top spot. It was reported over a week ago that Janet would be number one and Erykah number two and by at least 60-70,000.

Janet’s CD is good but she needs to lay off the interludes because they sound fake now. It’s like Darkchild just wanted to throw them in because Jimmy and Terry used them. :thumbsdown:

You can’t impose your religious ideas, morals, or rules on other people. Since no preachers, courts of law, magistrates or priests existed “In the Beginning”, technically, Adam and Eve had two babies out of wedlock. So did Mary and Joseph. I am personally “for” marriage, but I don’t support telling other people what they “need” to do.
I think we all can keep our hands full with out own “sins” without having to point out everyone elses.

I read the magazine today and in it Erykah speaks of her TWO kids, Seven and Puma.
She also is quoted as saying, “I didn’t even see the purpose of marriage. Now I see the goodness in having a partner. But I don’t belong to anybody; I belong to the world.” (p.143). It’s a decent article… And she looks great in the pics.
