Erykah Badu: Face of New Tom Ford Fragrance

Singer Erykah Badu has a lot on her plate these days. The “Honey” diva is not only prepping for the release of her new album this month, but is also set to hit the road on a summer tour as well. Now comes word from Vogue Magazine that the sista has also been handpicked by Tom Ford to be the face of his new, and as yet un-named, fragrance. And though some may think Erykah is selling out for hooking up with corporate fashion bigwigs- I think her diversifying herself and her portfolio is a good thing. If ever a face was meant to be seen in print ads, it is Erykah’s. She has a great sense of style and fashion and that is probably why Tom chose her when he could have so obviously used any celebrity or model he wanted.

So what type of ad will Erykah do for Tom Ford? Only time will tell, but I bet it will be just as controversial as the last Tom Ford ad was-> NSFW

  1. Erykah is mad beautiful but I am beyond shocked that Tom Ford not only shose her but that she accepted. But hey money is the name of the game and I am sure Tom is paying her well. This will be the most press she has probably ever gotten in her entire career.

  2. I’m not mad. I think it’s a good look- for both, Badu & Ford

  3. Erykah Badu is not selling out. Who the hell would think that??? Homegirl gotta make her money too. Im glad she got this endorsement. She shouldnt even care what other people will think of her anyway. If Erykah decides to switch up her style, then let it be. Damn.

  4. people always gonna hate, especially when you getting paid…go get that paper erykah!

  5. Tom Ford has always been out there. He will come up with something brilliant that will blow our pants off. Yeah folks is already talking ish about her but so what, it’s to be expected these days. Whites are making fun of her and acting as if she isn’t good enough to be in a Tom Ford ad because she doesn’t straighten her hair and go out of her way to look like the typical Black model who usually looks White. This kinky haired afro sista is doing her own thing and still rising to the top. I’m proud of Erykah :brownsista:

  6. You have to give it up to Tom Ford though. He was also the one who introduced the world of high fashion to Liya Kebede. I’m for it!

  7. Good for Erykah. If beyonce got a direct tv commericial and she is dumb…then Artistic Erykah can have a Tom Ford ad.

  8. This is good. Erykah is a beautiful sista and the world needs to see and hear more of her than what they have. She’s awesome and a true artist.

  9. as a fellow dallas sista, i’m proud of her. new album, new endorsement deal. make that money girl.

  10. I am absolutely shocked!!! I am so proud of Erykah! She is one of my favorite artists and I wish the best for her and her future!

  11. She is without a doubt one of the most beautiful sisters on the planet. She is eclectic but stunning. I’m proud of her.

  12. I am glad Ms. Badu has a new album. At least she and Jill Scott are staying true to their R & B roots and not selling out to the pop crowd just so they can be international superstars. Thank you sistas for giving us real music.

  13. GOOD IM GLAD SOMEBODY FINALLY ADVERTISING A CELEBRITY WITH REAL PERSONALITY THATS NOT SO “HOLLYWOOD”. ANYBODY WHOSE AN ERYKAH BADU FAN KNOWS THAT. “STEADY ON THA GRIND” AIN’T YA ERYKAH, AND LOOOOOOOOOVE THE ALBUM COVER. ONLY ERYKAH COULD THINK OF THAT.

  14. Get that money Ms. Badu

I love her and I love Tom Ford. I tried on his perfume at Saks a few weeks ago. Very unusual and sorta androgynous. Not my personal style but I would love it on someone else. It’s completely unconventional much like Erykah. I look forward to seeing the ads.

Tom Ford is one of the few male designers that I just adore. He doesn’t sacrifice creativity or fit. A lot of designers, especially the male ones, make art with no thought as to how it’s going to look. He’s also incredibly sexy.

  15. Erykah is so fabulous and has always had a natural earthy beauty that is definitely noticeable! As for ford choosing her I’m not a bit surprise because really white ppl embrace authentic black beauty before we do. They think that afros, braids and dark skin anything different is so amazing and exotic. For the past year I been wearing microbraids and I seem to attract more white men and men of different races more than ever since, even alil more than brothers! Its just funny because we tend to think somtimes the straighter and fairer the skin the better, trying to fit in with them but the truth is they really admire what we have naturally. Anyway sorry to get off the subject, but Erykah u go girl, get that money and do you and stay tru!

  16. I don’t think she’s selling out……she’s a BUSINESS woman! I just hope her look stays fresh and natural.

Zoe :iagree: I could not agree with you more
Alec Wek was beautiful to those in the fashion world long before many blk americans found her attractive.

@April- Can you name a top blk models who is light skined besides Channel Iman and Tyra Banks :noway: . You will find it diffcult since most top Blk models are and look blk.

  18. Damn can a sister get a break :hater:
Badu is not selling out because she is doing alot more networking why can’t she ? Is Beyonce and other Glamourized singers the only ones endorsing these days . I am or consider myself to be a very earthy and ever evolving woman and I love to smell good so seeing Erykah promoting would peek my desire to purchase Mr Ford fragrance,
And just because you don’t see an artist doesn’t mean they are not doing things . She actually is a die hard activist for her community she gives back not take and keep moving :brownsista:

  19. Erykah is the one of the best! I wish her all the best.
Plus it is soooo good for our youth to see her !

  20. Some of the commenters on here don’t seem to realize how deep their foot is going down thier mouths. I’m surprise no nobody dissolved a toenail. Your complementing one sista, but at the same time you can’t get pass your jealously over another. You always bring the same typical issue in everything.

  21. Yes, people come on now, E. Badu a face for High Fashion, don’t ya think that would help make some folks thinks twice about how kinky hair looks, and lets face it weave, weave, and more weave, hell at least Tom Ford know he wants some real flava on his stuff not wave flav. And most importantly with Tom working with E. maybe she will do her Badu and get the bro on to donate money to some of her causes. So, knowin E. I’m sure she has a plan and like the person said earlier Tom knows his stuff fo sho and he makes know bones about it either.
