Fox Cancels ‘Shots Fired’

Shots Fired has been canceled by Fox. The provocative drama about the shooting of an unarmed teen in a small southern town will not be returning for a second season. Starring Sanaa Lathan and Stephen James, the show was originally added to Fox’s mid-season lineup and billed as a nine-episode event series.

The ripped from the headlines procedural has been a modest performer for the network, averaging a 0.89 demo and 3.5 million viewers. During a recent interview with Variety, writer/producer Gina Prince-Bythewood said Fox has been “very supportive of our show” and that thanks to great reviews and Emmy buzz “If we decided we all wanted to do it again, we could.”

I’m going to assume Bythewood’s passing on a second season is why the show is not listed on the network’s fall and mid-season schedule, which was released by Fox early this morning during their yearly Upfront event for advertisers.

Shots Fired will air its final episode Wednesday, May 17th at 8/7c. Fans who want to watch previous episodes can do so either online or via Hulu Plus.

  3. We all know the subject matter is very touchy these days, but it is a good show to show how the good can come to the top. LATHAN(Ash) make the show.
