Gabourey Sidibe on Confidence and Beauty!

While Actress Gabrielle Union is sharing her insecurities as a “dark skinned woman in hollywood” to the world, Golden Globe- nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe is revealing her confidence. Sidibe is featured in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar and talks exclusively about her confidence, true beauty, and her exclusive shoot.

On her confidence:
“People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.

On the shoot:
“I feel like a model. It justifies everyone in my life who told me I wouldn’t be anything until I lost weight. It justifies that little girl who cried because she didn’t think she could be in front of the camera. And it’s for other girls who feel like they can’t do this or that and feel like they’re not pretty and not worthy of having their photo taken.”

*sidenote* I love her confidence and free spirit:)

  1. She is has a very appealing presence and she’s a cute girl but she needs to loos weight… she is too fat.

  2. Nisha, How dare you? When she is ready to lose weight, she will. You didn’t even have to make that comment.

  3. She looks lovely! If she is happy with her weight then im happy too…..

  4. @Holly

How dare you brush aside the seriousness of obesity in this country. Highblood pressure and diabetes and heart disease are a serious issue in the black community and is killing black women daily. How dare you champion the death of millions of black women.. I like her, she’s cute but she needs to loose weight to continue to LIVE. When you don’t have your health you dont have anything.

  5. You go Gabby. She probably knows more than most about the seriousness of obesity. Leave her alone, who knows what she is doing in that regard. It’s HER choice.(to do something about it or not)

  6. You Go Gabby to your grave if you don’t lose weight and get healthy. DUH…

  7. Nisha I applaud you for being brutally honest, concerning the health issues… its a fact. Her being successfully does not take away from the fact that she is an unhealthy chick. I once saw an interview of hers where she talked about how “she was happy with the way she looked, she was sexy…” yunno the usual statements people use when they are in denial. Nevertheless she deserves all the credit for her hard work.
