Gabrielle Union Rebooting ‘Bad Boys’ for TV

Gabrielle Union to Star in ‘Bad Boys’ Reboot

Gabrielle Union is taking over the Bad Boys franchise and bringing it to television. The Being Mary Jane star has inked a pilot deal with NBC Universal and will star in and produce the small screen reboot of the buddy-cop film, which she originally appeared in alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back in 2003.

Gabrielle will reprise her Bad Boys 2 character, Syd Burnett, who has now moved on to become a LAPD Detective. She’ll be joined by a new partner who’ll complicate things when she discovers Syd’s pleasure-seeking lifestyle may be masking a larger secret.

This estrogen-infused update will be written by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who previously worked together on The Blacklist. Jerry Bruckhemer, who produced the film versions, will executive-produce alongside Doug Belgrad.

Gabrielle is set to wrap up her four-year stint on Being Mary Jane in 2018. She’ll then move on to upcoming roles in Breaking In and The Public.

  1. I hope this isn’t an indication that there won’t be a Bad Boys 3 (which Will Smith and Martin recently said they’re very close to closing the deal on..which they’ve claimed for YEARS, mind you)!
