Taraji P. Henson is gracing W magazine’s August edition, which they have dubbed The Pop Issue.
The Empire star continues to bask in the glow of starring in 2015’s highest rated TV show, which is set to return to air this fall with an increased order of 18 episodes.
Taraji is credited with much of the show’s success, with her portrayal of Cookie Lyon earning her this year’s Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
“Cookie is the American dream,” Taraji recently said of her character. “I love playing her but people need to know it’s taken me a long time to get here. I’m not as new to this as some think.”
Taraji tells W, her rise to the top has been slow, steady and planned. “I always knew if I just worked hard and diversified the roles I chose to take, someone would eventually notice. I am blessed, but I also put in the work.”
For her W cover, Taraji channels Diana Ross, who like Taraji, can count herself as both an actress and a singer. “I love Diana,” Taraji said. “She is the ultimate multi-tasker. She did it all and did it better than anyone else.”
When asked if she planned to possibly put out an album one day, Taraji played coy, simply saying “A lot of door have been opened for me this year and I plan to walk through all of them.”
