Halle Berry Is Set To Make History

Rumor has it Halle Berry is set to cover the all important September issue of Vogue Magazine. If this rumor is true, and more than likely it is, Halle will only be the second black woman in the magazine’s history to cover the September issue. Naomi Campbell first did so way back in 1989. However, it was rumored to be the lowest selling Vogue cover ever and it would be years before Naomi would grace the (U.S.) cover again alone.

Fast forward to over a decade later and putting a so called black woman on the cover still has people freaked out. Gwyneth Paltrow was rumored to be getting the cover and she was no doubt a safe choice. Though my opinion is that half white Halle is an even safer choice. I’m kind over the first black thing now anyway. I rather just stick to magazines who don’t just show people who look like me on the cover, but also show them inside the covers and in the advertisements.

And speaking of advertisements- one of the reasons the September issue is all important to Vogue is that rates for advertisers are set for the year based off of how well the September issue sells.

  1. Nah, Halle isn’t setting a record because she is half-WHITE. Vogues needs to put Kelly Rowland on the cover.

  2. Halle Berry is always white people’s safe choice. What is she even doing that would warrant her to get a cover right now? She is quite boring at this point. Her career has slowed down and no one really cares about her private life. She is a black version of J-Lo right about now.

Rihanna would have made a great choice. She looks good in everything and she is never boring.

I think a cleaned up Lady GAGA would have been interesting too.

  3. No, I don’t agree Halle is a safe choice or something negative like that. She has class, the kind Voque’s looking for.

  4. I didn’t know the history behind the ‘September’ cover. I didn’t know it was most coveted, so thanks for that tidbit of info 🙂

Glad Halle got it. She’s gorgeous. Does she have something going on? I hope so. Tired of seeing pics of her shopping groceries. Need a movie or something 🙂

  5. Halle is a great choice…I was thinking more along the lines of Kerry Washington…Oh and btw, to be Black means to be mixed. Whether it’s 1st generation, 2nd,third and so on…Kelly Rowland AIN’T African. She’s a Black/African American. Halle just happens to be a present day version of how Blacks came to be.America is a country overflowing with inbred genes…I can guarantee you that ALL Blacks are highly mixed. How on else can you then account for the differences in hair texture, skin tone and physical features? I’d just like for Vogue to employ the beauty of women of color more often so that this won’t be an earth shattering event, nor even newsworthy. Go Halle! :hifive:

  6. Berry has been exposed for years, it would be nice to see someone else for a few minutes. I would prefer a black model or another actress. I’m sorry but she doesn’t represent me, my mother isn’t white. And you are fooling yourself if you don’t think that that’s a good part of the reason you see her way more than other black actresses.

  7. I think it will do fine. I believe of all colors respect and genuinely like Halle Berry.

    Peace, Love and Chocolate

  8. It’s ok for beyowulf to be on every dam cover last year but as soon as a sophisticated mag like Vogue wants to put a “Classy” lady on the cover there’s a problem.

And did someone say a cleaned up Gaga on the cover? PLEASE!!!

There is nothing interesting about that trashy heffa. That’s like trying to put Nicki Minaj on the cover of Ebony…ROFLMAO!

  9. wow i had no idea only one black woman had graced the cover of vogue, thats still so surprising and still discouraging!

  10. Halle’s race doesn’t matter, she is timeless and is still doing things even though we may not hear about her every 3 seconds. I know she has been filming at least 2 movies, so she will be back in the spotlight soon enough. Her 2nd fragrance is coming soon as well, I believe in September. Her 1st did well and actually smells great. If I saw her on the cover of a mag I would pick it up.

  11. ^^^Thanks for the info!!! 🙂 And I agree, she IS a timeless beauty.

  12. Maybe she is safe, but her skin sure aint pale.

    Congrats to Halle

  13. I agree that I’d rather stick with mags that just don’t showcase us on the front like some onetime exhibit piece but look at us as any other individual by including our faces in advertisements and the like INSIDE AND THROUGHOUT THE MAGAZINE. It’s 2010 and we’re still having these types of discussions..SMH.

  14. KoKo you sound like Halles publicist…lol

Style wise I feel she deserves the cover..but truth is she is a safe choice.

I would like see a black woman with two black parents working myself…sorry had to say it.

Zoe, Thandie, Paula, Halle and Beyonce…are all mixed and for some reason white folks think Beyonce is mixed too…lol

  15. Janet Jackson is the only Black Actress that can make history for Vogue and any other magazine. Janet is born famous, not made famous like halle and the other nothings like her.
