Happy Monday Brown Sistas and Fellas!  *Smiles*

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and now December first is upon us! That means its Holiday Time.  A time to give and receive…even in a not so fab economy. Even Oprah decided against making heads explode with her annual Favorite Things. But there is an upside to this. And GT’s gonna help by serving up ideas on how to make the Holidays more meaningful…from low cost to creative, to the usual suspects of gift items that all sistas go ga ga over…

Speaking of ga ga… all sistas love love love body washes. You just can’t go wrong with a body wash as a gift. They’re everywhere, easy to personalize by scent, and come in affordable ranges from the drugstore to Nordstroms. You also can get one at the last minute and drop it in a gift bag if need be. The above pic is a round up of ideas and you can find more of the same at The Get Togetha Blog.

What are some of the usual gifts that you like to give during the Holidays?

  1. I love the Aveda relief line in #2

  2. Great ideas! Thanks so much. Really eyeing the Kiehl’s products as I’ve heard nothing but good about them :smile:

  3. Just last weekend I saw a Kiehl’s gift box at the local flea market. At first I thought the vendor was just selling the box, but I realized it was still sealed! I expected the seller to tell me she wanted $20 for it and was prepared to pay it since it had a large size body wash (grapefruit), hair conditioner and soap in it.

    Anyway she says its $4! Well I’m from N.Y. so the shock and happiness of my good fortune didn’t even show on my face. Lol At first I wondered if I should have felt a little bad buying this $45 gift box for $4. Obviously the lady selling it didn’t do her research or she would have known to ask more. So I decided that’s what happens at flea markets, sometimes you find incredible deals!

  4. @Lola…

    That Aveda hand cream is to die for and there isn’t a woman on the planet earth who hands wouldn’t love it.

    @Kanyade
    Yes. Kiehl’s is the ish. They were organic before organic became the buzz word that it is today.

    @Monie
    $4 dollars?!!!! Gurl. consider yourself blessed. I love the company and all it stands for . And yes flea markets are great for finding deals. But some vendors at flea markets are hip to the game and will try to sell you something at an outrageous price…Not all vendors are created equal…Ha! :brownsista:

  5. I usually like to give gift cards, bottles of wine, and B&N gift certificates… :brownsista:

    I use to really go out and shop gifts to give, but people are always unsatisfied so now i give gift cards from their favorite stores lmao

  7. Blame it on tha Rain

    Nice ideas… but personally I am not much into gift giving or receiving. Thru out the 365( or 366 if it’s a leap year) days of the year, it’s Christmas for me. If I see something I want & have the money… I buy it. Therefore by the time the actual holiday rolls around, when it comes to the gifts, it’s another day. As adults we don’t have to “wait” until Dec 25th to go ga ga. Yes if someone gives me a gift I will not turn it down lol, but you won’t see me making request like many do. If I get something great, if not still great. I tell my friends all the time when they ask about getting gifts…” Your gift is that you made it to see another holiday & the new year, many didn’t make it this far… Congrats & Merry Xmas.” Life & good health is the best gift.

  8. I concur Blame it on the Rain. You shouldn’t have to wait till the Holidays to give. Giving to others and yourself is something we should practice 365 days a year and those are lessons we should share with our children. But there’s something extra special around this time of year because the giving spirit is elevated…

  9. I usually do Best Buy/iTunes giftcards or fabulous books for coffee tables and whatnot.
    Like last year, I use to purchase seperate gifts for them but now that my brother & sis-in-law are married, I got them this big book about Mandela. It looks awesome on a coffee table and it’s a interesting read (duh! Mandela, of course it is, right?!).

    This year, I’ve made these fierce cards and I’ve been practicing caligraphy to write something really special to each of my friends and family. Letting them know what they mean to me. The best thing is… it’s not expensive and it’s so from my heart, a bit original (more than giving my usual giftcard) AND I had the time on my hand to do it so…. *shrug*.
    {I was inspired to do the “card from the heart” as I was shopping for a card earlier this year in Hallmark and I spotted this gorgeous card that cost damn near $10 but it was sooooo fab and I bought it just to use as an example and inspiration for my cards.}

    I don’t know if any of you remember the episode of Girlfriends when Joan did a play at the senior citizens home where William’s girlfriend (Jill Scott’s character} worked and she started singing, “Cinco De Mayo is holiday time, holiday time, holiday time”. Well, that song is in my head and I can’t stop singing it cause ppl keep saying/writing “holiday time” :lol:

    Let me get my butt back to work….

  10. Dark Sista Is expecting twins Again

    I always give gifts, My mother said she’ ll take me to see someone about it, I can be walking in the mall and i see something and i’ m like “ooh Shante will love this” and i pick it up, Then i see another thing “Mama is going to love that one” so i go to the mall to buy something for my girls i end up spending about 6000 on gifts But compulsive shopper I am not :lol2: Anyway for Christmas and others gift giving holiday ,I’ m very good at picking brains up, What i will do is ask my siblings questions about 5 months prior the holidays but you have to be slick about it, I end up choosing something everyone love anyway,Usually it goes from clothing to jewelry, to perfume, or art pieces.
    My husband and i’ s last Christmas gift was a summer beach house for our entire family , I bought it, Made multiple keys, and gave them to my parents, my sisters and my brother, and he did the same for his family
    This Christmas we have another surprise coming up Lool

    Happy holidays

  11. Wow.. Dark Sista…Big Ballin much? LMAO! :brownsista:

  12. Dark Sista Is expecting twins Again

    Not :lol2: Just blessed sister Just blessed :smile:

  13. Ok Dark Sista, I need to hang with you! lol! :brownsista:

    I’m into buying practical gifts, something I know they will use. I only get gifts for my parents, my husband’s parents and my nieces and nephews. Since my husband’s b-day is Dec. 11th I usually get him his gift then.

    I love Carol’s Daughter, Almond Cookie is the bomb! But now I’m into Ocean.

  14. I love the Carol Daughter’s line. I love the Ecstasy, Ocean, and their Tui hair shampoo and conditioner, their hair oil, and manicure products. Its a wonderful line for black women. Its well worth the cost.

  15. we have a Kiehl’s store opening up in my local mall, i have heard about that line but never tried it, so i think i will TRY to get a sample soon. ;-)

    carol’s daughter is a great line, when my mom first started locking her hair YEARS ago, her salon gave her a bottle of the tui hair oil. then i started to sneak it away and use it myself! it made my hair smell so nice, and it has the beautiful flowers inside the bottle. i also got rave reviews when my cousin gave me “almond cookie” last christmas. it was a gift set that had the perfume and the lotion. when i am at work and i pass by someone, most of the time they stop me and say “girl, what is that you are wearing? it smells great!” love that feeling! :-)

  16. I love the Carol Daughter’s line too

  17. Renae..

    That Tui oil smells like honey to a bee…it smells like heaven. :brownsista:
