I Think I’m Addicted To Chapstick

Actually not just chapstick, but anything balmy that goes on the lips.I actually did a search of “lip balm” or something like that and to my surprise there are websites devoted to this obsession and some actually believe it’s a conspiracy… to do what I have no idea. Anyway, I used to chalk this up to me being a girly girl, but now I’m not so sure.I buy lip products in bulk and rarely if ever go inside a store without picking up Chapstick, Blistex… something.I hate lipstick and can’t stand lip gloss, but I am absolutely mad over anything designed to keep my lips soft, supple and extra plump looking. Carmex is one of my favorite products, but recently I found -> this website < - and my life has not been the same since. If you are a lip balm fan as I am you will be in absolute heaven.

Good Morning, I do sort of have an addiciton to lip product. Mainly I am addicted to Loreal’s H.I.P. Lip gloss, the darker shade called “Darling”. It keeps my moist with out making me look like I just ate a bunch of bacon

Some lip glosses dry out the lips purposely, to promote repeat use, as do some eyedrops. So, your lipsthemselves could be phsiologically addicted.

This is true, oh so true. The more you use it the more you actually need it. I didn’t always use chapstick or Caremex but once I used it I found I needed to keep using it and that is why people say it is addictive.

My husband feels the same way, I used to use ‘Soft lips” I don’t know if they still exist, but I let my husband use it one day and he went and bought some  then he realized that he kept applying it over and over and bought more…until he realized the addiction he had. So now he just uses the little vasaline squeeze tub.

I like to put pure shea butter on my lips to keep them soft and then top it with Mac lustre glass for a bit of color. But I am also starting to like Carol’s Daughter’s candy paint lip gloss.

I read somewhere that any lip product with petroleum is addictive because it doesn’t allow your skin to breath. Thereby drying them out, which lips to repeated reapplication.

BE CAREFUL WITH USING CARMEXT TOO MUCH!!! I swear by it when I get a cold sore during the winter times. But it’s medicated, so it will eventually dry out your lips! So use it sparingly and only when necessary :-)

I was on a carmex kick for a long time but I was noticing my lips were peeling which would cause me to use it more then they would peel more, etc. So I started using MAC’s Lip Conditioner and it works really well. It conditions my lips and I don’t feel addicted to it. And I don’t have the peeling problem anymore.

Am I the only one that can’t stand carmex on my lips? I prefer Soft Lips or Burt’s Bee’s for bare lip stuff.

I’ve always HATED Carmex. You’re definitely not alone on that one. I do however luv, luv, luv C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine / Breath Freshener - gots to have, all the time! Luv it even more when Bath & Body Works has it for sale.

    Carmex is good.
Burt’s Bee’s is good. (but expensive ha ha)
I love lip gloss. I very seldom wear lipstick and if I wear a tinted lip gloss it’s so sheer that you can’t tell.

Occasionally, I’ll pull a Tina Knowles and wear the bright red lipstick. LOL. Seriously, red fits with certain looks. Wore some this past weekend when I went out to the club. I had a very classic look going with minimal makeup (foundation, mascara, liner) and black and white for the outfit and decided to make my lips pop with color. But I digress. Very seldom do I use lipstick and when I’m not using the glosses it’s one of the above. :brownsista:

Ugh, I can’t wear lipstick for the life of me. It feels thick and it makes me look and feel old. It just feels like way too much. I’ve only used lipstick to ’stain’ my lips and then put clear gloss over it.

    @ Majesa,

I hear ya. I don’t like it ‘thick’ either, but have worn it that way, but not without patting it down alot. LOL. I also use lip liner to ’stain’ my lips with lip gloss cover. :brownsista:

If I am getting this right I think it’s http://www.chapilicious.com. On this website, they do reviews on every chapstick imagineable, you would be in heaven. I really love bonne bell, strawberry flavor, I think I was cursed when it came to carmex, cause I would always lose the one with the squeeze tube, but anyway try that website, check your spelling cause I don’t know if I spelled it right.

I didn’t read all the comments to see if anyone mentioned it…but Carmex is actually bad for your lips any makeup artist will tell you that…it has salicylic acid it in it which actually dries your lips out more that’s what makes you want to continue using it over and over :brownsista:

try plain old vaseline at night…also Carol’s daughter has a really nice all natural lip butter that still gives you shine

I USED TO USE VASELINE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, BUT THEN I STARTED TO DEVELOP A BLACK RING AROUND MY LIPS.

ONE DAY I WAS IN A BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE AND THIS GIRL AT THE COUNTER SAID SHE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BEFORE UNTIL SHE STARTED USING CARMEX. SO FROM THEN ON I’VE BEEN ADDICTED TO CARMEX.

I’VE TRIED TO GO COLD TURKEY, AND EVEN USING A LITTLE VASELINE, BUT MY LIPS GET SO DRY SO FAST THAT I GIVE IN AND GO BACK TO MY OLD CARMEX.

IT IS DEFINITELY ADDICTIVE AND I’M QUITE SURE IT DRIES MY LIPS OUT IN ORDER FOR ME TO BUY MORE, BUT I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT. I ALWAYS KEEP 1 ON ME, 1 IN MY PURSE, 1 IN THE CAR, 1 OR 2 AT HOME AND ON MY DRESSER. I BUY 4 TO 5 AT A TIME. IT’S OUT OF CONTROL.

If Carmex really has salicylic acid in it, then :noway: you shouldn’t use it. That stuff is in acne medication to peel off the top layer of skin. Sheesh.
