Jada Pinkett Smith Lands Big TV Role

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is set to make her return to network television in a very big way.

According to online reports, the 42-year old former “Hawthorne” actress has been cast to play Fish Mooney in the upcoming “Batman” prequel “Gotham.”

The character of Fish Mooney, original to the series and not found in the comic books, is described as a “sadistic gangster and nightclub owner with street smarts and extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book.”

Jada joins a cast that already includes Ben McKenzie, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor and Zabryna Guevara.

“Gotham” will air this fall and is set in the early years when Commissioner Gordon was just a detective, Bruce Wayne was still mourning the death of his parents, and many of the comics’ well known villains were still in training.

  1. I can’t wait for this show, it looks promising. I always liked Jada as an actress, as she used to be one of my favs in my teen years when Jason’s Lyric and what not was out. She slowed down once she got married and had kids, but she’s always diversified her career. Still can’t believe they cancelled Hawthorne, a great show. I have the dvd boxsets at home. Hawthorne had a good amount of viewers for cable and like Single Ladies was cancelled mysteriously.. (Although I never watched Single Ladies). This does happen with shows lead by black actors… Causes one to think….
