THINK MINK: Janet Jackson has wrapped up another gig. The singer will join the ranks of Diana Ross, Sophia Loren, Lauren Bacall, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli and, more recently, Elle Macpherson and Elizabeth Hurley, as the newest face in the Blackglama advertising campaign, “What Becomes a Legend Most?”
Jackson was photographed by Rocco Laspata of Laspata DeCaro, at the Milk Studios in New York. The campaign, which begins in September, will span print, online and outdoor outlets. The ads will appear in Vanity Fair, W, Vogue, T Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as WWD and Style.com, in addition to the international editions of Vanity Fair, Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. Blackglama will also mount a Times Square billboard at Broadway and 45th Street in September. The company has increased its marketing spend 40 percent from a year ago, but wouldn’t disclose dollar figures. Blackglama has also expanded its product line, introducing leather bags, eyewear, fragrance and fur accessories, in an effort to make it a less seasonal, more year-round brand.
A behind-the-scenes video documenting the making of the campaign will appear on the Blackglama and Jackson Web sites. Jackson flew to New York for the shoot after performing on the finale of “American Idol,” where her performance shot up to number one on iTunes (which she pointed out via Twitter after the fashion shoot).
So did she get to keep the mink?
“Yes, Janet did get to keep the coat,” confirmed a Blackglama spokesman, a perk for the legends of the past, who all got to keep the coats they were photographed in.
Wowsers! Janet looks beautiful in the video. Just absolutely stunning. I can’t see her with a weave ever again. Hope she keeps this style for a while because it suits her. With this campaign, she’s in the company of such “legends” and this is one of the reasons why I cringe at the comparison of her to certain modern day newbies. This right here is that real legend ish. I can agree with Dr. Johnson, I have always thought that Beyonce was jealousof Janet which is why she opened her mouth to bad mouth the Jacksons. Bohwe, there are many statements and situations that leads people to think that Beyonce is really jealous of Janet. 1. She has copied almost everything from Janet Jackson.
2. None of Beyonce’s albums will be classic like Janet’s albums. 3. Janet built the house that Beyonce and other female artist lives in and Beyonce knows this. 4. Janet has accomplished way more than Beyonce being a single artist she did not have to use a group to get started. 5. Janet has been crowned Icon & Legend status. I could go on & on remember Beyonce wanted to stand in the middle during the Ebony or Essence shoot and they told her no mam Queen Janet is going to stand in the middle.

People should realize that this is a Janet post. It’s about the fact that she is a legend who was given the special opportunity to be the spokesmodel for an elite company that has been around for many years. To become a legend is not about accolades, it’s about doing your god given talent, that people are in awe of you, and take notice. People fail to realize that Janet didn’t beocme a legend because of constant ramblings on the internet, or other celebs making sure everything is about you, it’s about selling record numbers of CDs, innovative videos, it’s about creating a brand over the course of 30 years. That is a legend. Inorder to be a legend you have to put records out evry few yeasrs so that the fans and industry won’t become irritated with you. And you have to switch up your image.See, Janet went from the tomboyish innocent girl, to the alluring woman- to the sexy woman, to the freaky dominatrix, to the sophisticated glamourous actress. She has change her image, as Madonna , and the fans love her,because she shakes things up. With her constant image change, we never tire of her, and she gives us different layers to her personality. That’s what makes a legend keep things interesting. Janet has succeeded in this, like her brother MJ, who was gifted in the art, of changing his image in every song, and every video. Each of his CDs would have a rock song, r and b song, gospel song, rap infused, etc. But if you are bombarding the audience with the same time and time again, it’s dull. That is not a legend. One that takes risks.
Janet gets a pass because she’s JANET DAMITA JOE. THAT’S WHY, 150 MILLION RECORDS AND COUNTING. RESPECT THE GAME.
