Janet Jackson To Star In Tyler Perry’s Next Movie

Janet Jackson Singer Janet Jackson has officially come on board to star in Tyler Perry’s next movie, “Why Did I Get Married”, based on the filmmaker’s stage play of the same name.Filming is scheduled to begin March 5th. in Vancouver and eventually move to Atlanta where Perry has set up his own studio.Sharon Leal, who co-starred in Dreamgirls and Jill Scott are also confirmed to be in the film. “Why Did I Get Married” revolves around a couple who go away with friends every winter to examine their marriages in a group setting.

Though this is obviously great news for Janet fans like myself, the scheduling date conflicts with past information given out about Janet’s upcoming tour.Prior reports had Janet’s tour starting some time in the summer but that obviously cannot be correct if she is now shooting a movie.

Rumors have been swirling around for some time now that Janet’s tour would not be happening and I guess this movie role can be considered an unofficial confirmation of that.

  1. Go head Janet. Her musical career ain’t poppin’ so she might as well do her thang at the movies.

  2. I am excited that Janet Jackson is starting to do movies again, because she is a great actress. I love Janet Jackson, she should have played Deena in dream girls.

  3.
she should have played Deena
That ship has sailed.

  4. JANET JACKSON MUSIC IS STILL POPPING, SHE IS GETTING READY TO DROP A VERY FIERCE DANCE POPPING ALBUM, YOU JUST WAIT AND SEE, JANET WILL TELL PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO KISS HER ASS IN HER NEW ALBUM JUST WATCH OUT FOR IT. YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE THIS ONE HONEY. SHE IS A JACKSON MUSIC IS NEVER OVER FOR THE JACKSONS, THEY ARE LEGENDS, ICONS, AND WORLD LEGENDS, WORLD ICON, SO DON’T GET IT TWISTED.

  5. To Tarsha, Janet Jackson has an excellent music and movie career, if her album was not all that great, why did it have 2 #1’s and has sold 1.5 miilion copies worldwide??? I know that we are used to Janet Jackson saling more like 8 million copies, but no one sales like that anymore I love Janet Jackson and has always thought that she was a great actress, but she will be doing a movie, and I also heard that she will drop a new album, so you should never underestimate a Jackson, and besides she is a music icon, and legend, she has been in the business for 25 years, and out of 25 years this may be her only album not sale as much as usual, so Janet Jackson has nothing to prove in the music business.

  6. im excited and its a way that janet can bring that character to shut up all the critics and retake the top. she is an amazing actress and woman and aint gona stop till she reclaims her trophy. i beleive in her and think her and tyler would set box office records and the tour and new album that follow will greatly benefit just think for the soundtrack she did the duet with mariah. janet knows what she is doing just watch

  7. CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER FOR MISS JACKSON!!!

I AM HAPPY TO SEE HER DOING MORE FILMS AND WISH HER THE BEST IN HER FUTUREE ENDEAVORS. 🙂

  8. Damn some of the Janet fans are wildin’ out up in here.I love Jan too and have been a fan since Good Times but her musical career HAS stalled and telling ourselves other wise will not change that.I liked 20 Y.O and LOVED Damita Jo but America has blacklisted our girl and it has hurt her career trememndously.

Up until now I had dismissed the rumors of Gil supposedly writing on his blog that there would be no tour because Janet said there would be and I believed her.But obviously things are so bad that unlike Madonna whose albums flop but she still tours, Janet apparently cannot which may mean that she can’t get corporate backing or sponsors.

Whatever the reason may be Janet must now seek other ways to keep her name and face out there and movies is just the way to go.Hopefully bit by bit Janet can get back into the musisc game in a big way because right now she is not even on the map or the charts.

  9. This is like taboo, I was thinking that Janet would do well in a movie like this. By the way, her last album was good!!!

  10. I’m very excited about this news. Janet’s a great actress. She will Mos def have the number 1 movie in the country and hoefully the number. 1 single for the sound track. Foxnews also reported that there will be a Jackson tour will Janet and her brothers, so look out for more info all that.

  11. Yes it was Liyah and Enjoy should have been a single. But Janet is blacklisted on pop radio and vh-1 and mtv so I am glad to see her going back to her original roots.Janet is a great actress.I wonder what her role will be though? Will she play lead or the temptress.Daddy’s Little Girl hasn’t done well at the theaters though.I hope the next one does better. We really gots to get out there and put our money behind these films.

This is such a bad idea on so many levels but I’ll just keep quiet on it for now.

  13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I love Janet, but she’s not enough to elevate Tyler Perry’s mediocre material. His movies are abysmal. This is the worst Janet news I’ve heard in a minute, LOL.

  14. This is what happens when people do movies that do not include gun violence, sexually explicit scenes & vulgar language. Tyler Perry makes positve films & encourages dependance on GOD. Now you call it mediocre, I call it much needed. He is making millions so SOMEBODY wants to see the movies. And it is a damn good move for Janet :hmph:

  15. Liyah, don’t mistake me. Positive messages are one thing, but one dimensional characters, over-the-top plots and flat dialogue are inexcusable. Regardless of his noble intentions, Mr. Perry’s films are like watching a rough draft on the big screen. They lack professional polish and are several steps below Lifetime Moment of Truth films. The thing I always find interesting about the defenders of his films is that people ALWAYS say how positive his films are while skirting the obvious.

The women in his Madea films are weak, archaic stereotypes and ignore the great strides (black) women have made to be respected, influential members of society. They are either “saved” by Madea, or some light-skinned pretty boy. The heroes and villains are easily identifiable because of the way they’re written. The evil businessman, the evil drug dealer, the “good” hardworking man. Perry never mixes it up and attempts to explore those gray areas; it’s all black and white with him and to me, that’s lazy filmmaking.

I champion positive messages in black film, but one thing I will not tolerate is pandering. Tyler Perry’s excuse for bad writing is to say he’s showing black folks in a good light. I think black audiences should demand more from our directors and writers. Perry makes it too easy for us and doesn’t challenge us. I think we deserve to be challenged.

  16. Ok I do understand that sometimes things are over the top. Media is supposed to me really funny though, and I know that he depicts these rich black folks with big mansions at times, but he DOES balance it out. For every bad man he has a good man and likewise for the women. But the point is he is trying to be positive. He is still relatively new, perhaps in a few years he will perfect his craft.

  17. For everyone who is having smiley trouble- you must leave a space bewteen your words and the smiley in order for it to appear correctly.

  18. Well I really liked the play, so I’m interested to see how the movie turns out.

  19. I love Janet and have so much respect for her. I am glad that she continues to push on and do her thing. She is an icon and has a beautiful spirit. I must add that she looks damn good to be 40 years old. You go girl.
    :brownsista:

  20. TO ALL OF YOU, JANET JACKSON IS TOURING, SHE WILL TOUR WITH MICHAEL JACKSON, NOT THE JACKSON FIVE’S. THE JACKSON FIVE WILL TOUR SOMETIMES NEXT YEAR WITH MICHAEL ALSO, BUT THIS TOUR WILL BE JANET AND MICHAEL. I AM GLAD TO SEE JANET USING HER ACTING TALENT, THE GIRL CAN ACT AS WELL AS ENTERTAIN ON THE STAGE. MULTI-TALENTED JANET JACKSON WILL DO VERY WELL IN THIS MOVIE, I THINK TYLER PERRY’S MOVIES HAS DONE WELL TO BE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MOVIE; TYLER PERRY IS EXCELLENT, AND JILL SCOTT, AND JANET JACKSON THIS COULD BE HUGE. I LOVE YOU ALL.

  21. Go Head Janet Do ur thing when it come out i will love to see u get married to Tyler Perry u and him make a good Couple i cant wait to the movie come outs so all i got to say do ur thing janet go sista go go head and get down. Do ur thug Dizzle

  22. It’s an amazing thing. Janet getting her popularity back thanks to Tyler, imagine that.

  23. Meanwhile Mrs. Dana is talking smack in a Beyonce blog that she loves Janet and that Beyonce is nothing I don’t see you commenting onthis one or reading this one….It’s been up for about 4 days. So for all you chics bad talking Beyonce and dissing her to Janet who I do love I just find it funny that your such a fan your not over here sending congrats and talking about how great Janet is but your in the blog of someone you hate spending all your little time. Congrats to the big homie Janet I loved her in poetic justice. I’m a real fan. And I commented about it! You can like more than one artist!!!!!

  24. I love Janet. 20 YO was a great album with some great dance-able soungs. Now, I cannot stand Tyler Perry’s work. Like the poster above – his work is simplistic and very stereotypical. Look, I’m not looking for Oscar performances here – but just something more than the old cliche’s…..I ALMOST went to see his latest movie b/c of gabby union and idris elba. But my mother, sister, and mother-in-law (all who LOVE PErry’s work) said it was not that great, when compared with Madea’s movies. Anyway, between Perry and Eddie Murphy continually making the same black movies, with the ame loud, fat black women, and the same corny light pretty boy-saviors, and the same old chitlin-circuit garbage – I am just sick to death. I Love Janet Jackson – so I MAY support this movie because of her – but I hope Tyler PErry (who I have tried to get into – -but just CANT for some reason) I hope Tyler makes thematerial more interesting and less stereotypical. I know that low-ball humor appeals to a large segment of black folks (you can just watch Comicview to confirm) – not everyone wants to pay for garbage. We deserve more. So hopefully Tyler will step up to the plate with Janet’s movie.

  25. Oh and yes – I have watched a copule of his movies on DVD – so I have a frame of reference for my previous comments…..still no dice for Perry until he does better…..I think it may be his barely concealed feminity that really irks me—-look I loved Luther – and his Diva ways and sometimes “grand dame” personality…..loved luther —-but tyler aint no luther —-and his Madea impersonation gives me the impression that he doesnt just like wearing that costume on stage,,,,,perhaps at home while cooking, or entertaining his “friends”….something is not right about him.l…….so I just say if he likes guys – then be about guys – be open about it – but dont use your alter ego-Madea- to pass off crap to black audiences and think its so great – even though I know it paid for more gaudy gold chandeliers and marble in his gaudy, Liberace-style house….still no dice….

  26. I think the deal with Perry’s movies are that they aren’t good unless his in it acting a fool. I mean I liked Daddy’s Girls I thought it was sweet and simple. I think he always goes to extremes with the ex wife being with the drug dealer and all that but is that real life??? Yes for some it is. It was one of those black movies that we would have killed for years ago when all we could put out was boyz in the hood and new jack city. So i would say go see it in love. Me and my man went and it was a great date love movie with a couple of laughs. In my opinon Janet’s been married enough times for it to be good and she was Justice for crying out loud. I know we all remember that movie. She murdered it and she was hood in it.

  27. Are you guys smokin? Your saying that Tyler’s movies go to extremes, but that’s how life is…especially for African Americans. I really enjoyed Daddy’s Little Girls…and I hope this next movie is great as well.

  28. Do you really need a college education to be on these blogs????? B BABY! SWEETIE! READ FOR ME!!!
I SIAD: “I think he always goes to extremes with the ex wife being with the drug dealer and all that but is that real life??? Yes for some it is.”
In other words the daughter selling the daughter to her husband anddrug dealer over a good man and getting your kids to sell drugs and all that to me is extreme when it’s in every movie but I realize it’s real. It’s not my taste becuase I have a weak tummy. So no I’m not smokin but you can use some for ya vision.
