Janet Jackson’s #1 Albums Span Four Decades
With her latest number one album, her seventh overall, singer Janet Jackson joins only a handful of artists to chart number one albums in each of the last four decades.
With sales of just over 116,000 copies, Janet’s Unbreakable album has helped the singer secure a spot in history alongside Barbara Streisand and Bruce Springsteen, the only other artists to also accomplish the feat.
Janet first topped the charts in 1986 with Control, and again in 1989 with Rhythm Nation. The nineties saw Janet secure two more number one albums, including Janet in 1993 and The Velvet Rope in 1997. A new millennium did little to slow Janet down, as 2001’s All for You and 2008’s Discipline helped add to the singer’s tally.
According to Billboard, among women with the most number one albums, Janet comes in third, behind Streisand who has ten and Madonna who has eight.
Congrats to Janet. I can think of no artist more worthy of their success.
