Jazmine Sullivan To Be Honored By Billboard

Billboard Magazine is honoring Jazmine Sullivan with their “Rising Star Award” at the 2010 Women in Music Event. Jazmine is the second woman to receive the honor, following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga who received it back in 2008 following the massive success of her “The Fame” album.

“I admire Lady Gaga, so to be honored in a category that she was once in is such a rewarding feeling,” Sullivan told Billboard.com. “When I heard the news, I was so happy. I feel honored to be chosen as this year’s Rising Star.”

The Rising Star Award honors artists that have achieved a level of success and proven to have vast potential in the early stages of their career, and Jazmine Sullivan has done exactly that since 2008, when her debut single “Need U Bad” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and spent four weeks atop the chart. She’s also had top 10s with “Fearless” follow-up singles “Bust Your Windows” (No. 4, 2008) and “Lions, Tigers & Bears” (No. 10, 2009), as well as with “Holding You Down (Goin in Circles)” (No. 3, 2010), the lead single from “Love Me Back.”

“Fearless” debuted atop R&B/Hip-Hop Albums the week of Oct. 11, 2008 and charted for 66 weeks. It sold 517,000 copies, per Nielsen SoundScan, and earned the singer a total of seven Grammy nominations over two years, including best female R&B vocal performance, best contemporary R&B album and best new artist.

  3. I loved… loved… loved her first album. She is truly talented and is setting her own tracks in the mud!!! I admire the fact that she didn’t change one bit to please other people. Her music is consistent from her first album to her second. Good old school feeling music. ROCK ON JAZMINE!!!!

  4. She has grown on me a lot. I plan to get her new album. She opened for El and Mary and she was very good.

  5. Amazon has snippets of her album and let me say her first two singles just from the preview doesn’t do this album any justice. Go Jazmine, Nov. 29 is also my birthday what a perfect gift.

  6. Congratulations Miss Jaz, Your voice is THE best of this generation…
