Jennifer Hudson Gets Oscar Nod

As expected, both Jennifer Hudson and Eddie were nominated in best supporting categories for their roles in the movie adaptation of the Broadway classic: Dreamgirls.Leading the race with a whopping eight nominations, Dreamgirls surprisingly failed to garner nods for it’s director Bill Condon or as best film.Still, eight nominations is nothing to sneeze at and we here at Brown Sista already have our fingers and toes crossed for Jennifer and Eddie to both bring home Oscars.To see the rest of the categories Dreamgirls was nominated in as well as all the other nominees you can visit the official website of the Academy Awards.You can also check out a few pics of Jen at the Dreamgirls premiere in the U.K. earlier this week.

Anyway, we all knew Jennifer and Eddie would be nominated and so was Listen and a few other songs.I’m happy for all involved and think Dreamgirls will win for several either Listen or one of the other songs and I think both Jennifer and Eddie will win also.

I didn’t think Dreamgirls would get a nomination as best film because it lascked in a few ares.It did have great music and performances though and am I the only one who thinks Annika Noni Rose is totally being overlooked? She was darn good in this film.

No “Girlfriend” you are not the only one who thinks Anika was overlooked. I think she did a damn good job too. I think so far, she is taking it well (getting overlooked) I think she is just happy to have been in the film. But I do think she deserved a nomination. The media just had us by making Jennifer & Beyonce go toe-to-toe. Jennifer & Eddie certainly did deserve an award. It was good to see Eddie in a different light. I really commned him. I think going through his divorce helped him focus & really throw himself into it.:thumbsup:

:iagree:I totally agree that Anika Noni Rose was overlooked. She did an exceptional job with her role and should have been nominated for some awards, if not an Oscar. That just goes to show you that popularity means more then actual talent in this case. Kudos to Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy for their well deserved Oscar nominations.:thumbsup:

No it is not too much to ask for pics of Jennifer to be posted and if you visit regularly you know we usually add them.Unfortunately, this morning when I posted this the site was indeed acting “Screwy” as Josie said and I could not add pics.After attempting to troubleshoot the problem for almost an hour, I logged off hoping that when I came back the problem would be cleared up, but it is not, so I still cannot add pics at the moment.Sorry.

I think that putting Beyonce in the lead actress catagory really back fired on her because she had to go up against much stiffer competition. There was no way she was going to get nominated going up against Merill Streep and veterans who have been in the business way before she was born.

Let’s not forget that Beyonce’s role was not that great in the movie.There is no way she was going to get an Oscar nod for best actress.I do believe that had her name been included as a write of Listen that she would have won.Dreamgirls has three songs in the running for an Oscar and I believe it will be Listen that takes the Oscar.
I cannot wait for the Oscars now because I believe Jennifer, Annika and Beyonce will all most likely perform the songs from Dreamgirls themselves. :banana:

Thanks for adding Jennifer’s pics. I guess my words came out wrong and I may have offended you, but as you can see from the comments on yourr site, the obsession with Beyonce is out of control and I thought maybe you were not giving Jennifer her screen time. I know now that is not the case. Beyonce worked damn hard on this film, but she is not “entitled” to an Oscar nomination. She has lots of time to learn her lessons and continue to develop her talent and emotional depth, which she is lacking at this time. It is the hallmark of Oscar winning performances. Her fans need to get a grip. They and her dad may actually be making things bad for her by trying to force the hand of the Academy. She has to prove her worth and there will be many more movie offers. Jennifer has emerged as a superstar in her own right and sometimes I wonder if she is being underestimated by blacks who are often smitten with brown-folks fever.

Jennifer probably has a better chance at winning in the supporting actress catagory. I’m just glad she at least got fairly nominated.

Not even in a Jennifer Hudson post can the name Beyonce not be mentioned.I am so glad that finally Jennifer is getting some much deserved attention for her role.When this movie was first being promoted Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx were getting more attention that Jennifer and Annika and the film was suspose to be about the women, not the men.It was all about Beyonce, Eddie and Jamie with Annika and Jennifer often not being mentioned at all.Finally Jennifer is getting her love but I wish Annika was included in there too because she was the only real actress of the three and she did her thing.Still, I’m glad that at least one other Dreamgirl besides Beyonce is getting some shine.

@ kere, i totally agree, i do rememeber the very begining when dream girls was being promoted it was all about the big names,beyonce,eddie and jamie. ms knowles kinda thought she had an oscar nomination in the bag for her role.mean while there was a small buzz about jennifer hudson’s role being the one you should watch for, the movie was more about jennifer’s role and not beyonce’s and as time went on and people actually got to view the movie that’s when the buzz about jennifer started to to get big,and beyonce stop talking about how she thinks she might win an oscar and how if they would have let her she would have gained weight to play effie,when a couple months ago she thought her part as deena was good enough for her to possibly get an oscar. maybe next time beyonce ,you will have plenty more chances, right now it’s all about jennifer and i am so proud of her she has come along way since american idol.

Yes she was the lead so a lead nomination was warranted but they probably did not lobby for that knowing darn well she would never get it up against the likes of more established names like Judy Dench and Meryl Streep.Supporting is the best category for her and the chances of her walking away with the Oscar in that category are very good.

I personally didn’t like Beyonce’s little cheap shot comment that she made towards Jennifers’s role “I would have gained weight to play Effie” Gained weight!! She’s already plus size she’s starving herself to stay skinny to fit in with hollywood she’s no where near being naturally thin. I don’t know how she had the nerves to make a comment like that about weight.
Hats off to Jennifer, her talent is a natural not based on looks or popularity. I hope she wins she deserves it.
