Jennifer Hudson Inks Movie & Cosmetics Deal

Well I guess all those people who just assumed Jennifer Hudson’s star would fall as quickly as it rose, will have to wait just a little bit longer to see that happen.Fresh off of her Oscar and NAACP win for Best Supporting Actress, Jennifer has landed a role in the Robert Reford directed biopic about Jackie Robinson, been signed by Avon to represent their Imari brand perfume and is in talks to duet with Whitney Houston on her upcoming album.

Side Note: Don’t lie. How many of you grew up sneaking into yo Mama’s room and spraying on her Imari perfume in the burguny bottle.Damn that brings back memories.

  1. Jennifer is going to have to really prove herself with this new role.We will see if she can really act or if Dreamgirls was just a fluke. She’s a beautiful and talented woman so I am in her corner all the way.

  2. I am so happy for her. I am so happy the opportunities are still coming. We know how Hollywood can be. She’s working with Robert Redford! Go ahead Jen!! :dance2:

  3. Hopefully we will see her acting skills further. I agree that she really has to prove herself as an actress. Nonetheless, I am happy for her success.

  4. Well it’s good that she’s getting some deals together. However, I’m going to agree with a few of the posters above. She still has to prove herself as an actress and she’s getting her shot, so that’s good. I’m going to hold off jumping on the bandwagon :bag:

  5. Her character in Dreamgirls was very attitude-ie and in my opinion somewhat easy to pull off.Now with this next role we will see if she has any range and do more than just sass talk.I’m rooting for her though and I can’t wait for her album.I think we are going to get some real music from Jennifer. She won’t sell like Beyonce so people shouldn’t expect that but if she puts out quality music I beleive she’ll be able to garner a true fan base and keep her career going for years to come.

  6. Jennifer will end up just like Latoya. She will ahve a quick moment of success and then just fade away.

  7. People, people……JENNIFER HUDSON HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A STAR PLUS BOAT LOADS OF TALENT—-WINNING THE
OSCAR PROVE THAT PEOPLE!!!!!!! Blessings to Jennifer
    from philly:):)

  8. ^^Cuba Gooding Jr. won an Oscar too. What was his last movie, Snow Dogs? :lol2:

I’m not wishing ill will on the girl, but that role was a tad bit easy, so we’ll see if she has real acting chops with her upcoming projects.

  9. Yeah, winning the Oscar and the overnight success just put so much more pressure on her. But, I am routing for her to have a successful career.

  10. Does a fat Black woman really stand a chance in the music industry that is obsessed with beauty, sex and youth?

  11. :koolaid:CONGRATS JEN, NOT A FLUKE THE GIRL CAN ACT,SING AND SPEAK INTELLIGENTLY….GO FIGURE!

  12. Why do people car her fat, the girl is a size 12 when did that turn to FAT!! The woman is thick but no where near fat! I’m loving Jen she’s a breath of fresh air!

  13. :brownsista:The 2 roles that basically carried Dreamgirls were Effie and Thunder Early! Jennifer acted her you know what off in that movie with all the twists and turns her character went thru. It’s no doubt that she can act and I can’t wait to see her star shine in this movie as well. We don’t see many Black women, small, medium or large on the silver screen. I think JHud has re-ignited a fire for Black women in major film roles. GWAAAAAAAAAN JH!

  14. …OH, and quite frankly, Jen will probably outsell Bey, cuz the sistah can REALLY SING! No wonder Matthew Knowles tried to sign her up for his lable–I’m really glad she signed with Clive Davis. John Legend writing music with her, NeYo, and Whitney all up in there? She’s a grammy waiting to happen!

I like Jen too but this just isn’t going to happen.Being able to really sing doesn’t mean you will release music that the masses will scramble to buy.Having a great voice means nothing at all in the industry today.People like Cassie are proof positive of that.Looks, marketing and videos count more than anything.Jennifer has a great voice but she is a bit overweight and more than likely will not be releasing pop records so right there out the window goes her chance of outselling Beyonce or most other pop acts.

  16. I think the listening public’s taste go far beyond what they can SEE after a while. People want GOOD MUSIC that last the test of time…not just linger on pop charts. JH’s musical talents go beyond pop; she will probably have a wider appeal being able to master several musical genres. If producers don’t try to turn her into another Bey, she has a footprint chance of being a textured artist that’s around for a long time…

She’s not fat, just bigger than everyone else. She had an interview and said that she was orginally a size 10 before the movie and has gotten back to that since finishing it. She not fat by all means. Just bigger than a size two or even a six for that matter.

Please don’t be naive. It’s all about image. There are plenty of powerful, great voices out there that don’t sell. Off the top of my head I can think of Cheryl Pepsi Riley. That woman has some pipes, but her albums don’t sell very well and that would be because her image doesn’t appeal to the masses. Also could you please tell me what different music genre’s Jennifer Hudson is able to master because I don’t know. I think that her movie success will help her, but I doubt she outsells Beyonce. Let’s face it, Jennifer Hudson is no Alicia Keys. She’s not writing her own music or anything.
