Jennifer Hudson Signs to Epic Records
Jennifer Hudson is on the move. After releasing two albums with Arista/J Records and one under the RCA banner, singer and Oscar Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson has officially signed to Epic Records and is reportedly already hard at work on her upcoming fourth solo album.
Epic Chairman and CEO, L.A. Reid, made the announcement via press release, saying “Jennifer Hudson is the defining voice of this generation. Her award-winning presence on records, in film and on stage establishes her as one of the premiere artists to emerge this century. I am enjoying collaborating with Clive Davis on Jennifer’s first album for Epic and I’m excited for fans to hear what we’re up to. All will be revealed soon.”
Reid and Davis are co-executive producing Jennifer’s new album together, making it the first time the pair have worked together since collaborating on Whitney Houston’s epic 1992 soundtrack for The Bodyguard.
Fans waiting for a taste of what the pair have cooked up for Jennifer may not have to wait long, as Jennifer alluded to new music dropping next month, telling fans via Instagram “August is about to be hotter than ever thanks to @clivejdavis and @la_reid.”
Jennifer’s last commercial release was 2014’s JHUD. The album debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of just over 24,000. As of December 2015 it has sold just over 100,000 copies in the United States.
