New J. Hudson Music: Spotlight

Just like her Dreamgirls co-star Beyonce Knowles, singer Jennifer Hudson is in the studio recording material for her new album. Jennifer has been signed to J Records for quite sometime now but her debut CD has been pushed back repeatedly, mostly due to her work in feature films. However, 2008 is destined to be the year Jennifer’s album finally sees the light of the day- and the rumored first single from that album has officially been leaked. Jennifer’s single is entitled Spotlight and was reportedly written by Ne-Yo and produced by Stargate. Click here to take a listen.

    This song is as bad as Beyonce’s. Lots of Jennifer songs has leaked over the last few months are all of them were lousy. Why can’t Ne-Yo write hit records for anyone but Beyonce and Rihanna?

    I won’t say “I love it”, but it’s easy on the ears and this girl really has a beautiful, melodic voice. I just hope that she finds better management real soon because she has a true gift. This song is actually nice, it’s the beat - not her voice.

    Please J Hud come on with it and blow some of these TIRED @ss female vocalists out the water like I know you can, boo! Reppin Chicago!!!

    I have listened to it a couple of times and it is really easy listening. It’s not first single material but it is a smooth little mid tempo track.

    I`m not sure about this one but she definitely has range. With the right songs and the right producer/producers she could go far. Then again a concern might be actual airplay. Being a new artist on the scene with a more soulful sound may not go over well with radio; we all know how that goes. For the most part hip-hop is the order of the day, UNFORTUNATELY…. I wish her well because the GARBAGE that`s considered music now has really played out.

    @Nesh Nesh:

    I agree, the beat is off. LUV The 80`s, do we not??!!??

    It’s catchy and soft. But I hope this isn’t the finished product b/c it sounds like it needs something more……more instruments or more vocals b/c it could get boring. Like you can get tired of the song quickly

    I personally love it. You can always tell when Ne-yo writes a song; the lyrics have substance.

    Pardon my spelling errors but I just listened to Jennifer’s song and my first impression is that I love it. Seriously, on the first go ’round I was groovin to it. Then the second and third time I listened I paid attention to the lyrics and she’s actually singing about something. I love when a song tells a story or makes sense AND has a good beat. And I don’t think throwing in a bunch of ‘ooohs & ahhhs’ count as lyrics.

    This is a good song, good lyrics, great voice easy to listen to and puts a smile on my face. Kudos. Can’t wait to hear the finished product.

    JENNIFER HAS A REALLY GREAT AND POWERFUL VOICE, BUT THIS IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE OF SONG FOR A FIRST RELEASE…SHE HAS TO DO MUCH BETTER IF SHE EXPECTS HER ALBUM TO DO WELL….SORRY JENNIFER YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO THE LAB ON THIS ONE…I KNOW YOU CAN DO BETTER.

    I love neo-soul music so if that is the route she is taking then I will buy the CD for sure. She has so much soul, you can hear it in her voice. Kind of reminds me of Ledisi (who’s album is wonderful). I guess I have to hear the song a few more times to get used to it.

    This lady can flat-out sing. Simon Cowell rejected her? That only goes to show me what I’ve said about him all along… he wouldn’t know what good singing is even if it slapped him in the face. I notice a few have mentioned that they don’t quite get the beat. That’s because the beat is that which is commonly heard in what is called “underground House Music” or as it’s sometimes called, “Garage”. I love what Ms. “Mo’Star” has called it… she calls it “neo-soul music”. That’s deep. Just let the rhythm and the beat move your body. If the words connect with your heart and soul, all the better.
    Ms. “Amber”, have a very, very happy and blessed birthday. And many, many more, sweetheart.

    This is good music! Love the lyrics. Musically, the track my have a hard time competing in todays market. It would have been a hit in the 80’s. It is time for a radical change in programming traditional radio stations. It takes a lot of time and energy to surf the web to find great music.

    Are any of you a fan of Res? If so, then she uploaded a video of a new song on You Tube last September called “There’s No Way”. You can find it uder “Res1″. She is also selling new tracks via her myspace page. She is now an unsigned artist.

    I really like Jennifer Hudson, because she reminds me of old school. This is actually a very nice record and you can feel the Ne-Yo vibe. A song like this would have worked back in the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s when good music like this ruled the radio airwaves. Unfortunately, the music world has changed. If it isn’t hip-hop or a certain mainstream artist (Usher, Beyonce and Rihanna), it will get lost in the shuffle. The state of today’s music has gone to the dogs. There are so many B-side artist that make great music but will never get major exposure. Sad, sad, sad.
