Jill Scott to Star in Lifetime Film About the Flint Water Crisis
In addition to her tour this summer, singer Jill Scott also plans to return to the small screen via Flint, the upcoming Lifetime movie about the government poisoning of Flint, Michigan’s water supply. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will explore the true story of three activists fighting to expose the cover-up, as well as seek justice for those affected the city’s lead-tainted water lines.
The film’s script is reportedly based on Josh Saburn’s 2016 Time cover story The Tainted Tap, and is set to begin shooting this fall. Previous casting announcements include Queen Latifah, Betsy Brandt, and Marin Ireland.
Flint will reunite Scott and Latifah, who last came together in 2012 to star in Lifetime’s re-imagining of the classic 1989 film Steel Magnolias.
