Kelis Dropped By Jive Records

Kelis Jive Records has officially released singer Kelis from her contract with the label. Though Kelis had a major hit with her single Milkshake, none of her other songs have charted well and her overall album sales have always been lackluster. Kelis was originally signed to Pharell’s Star Traks label, which was distributed though Virgin, which was later moved to Arista and when SonyBMG merged, Kelis somehow ended up on Jive. “It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record industry and finding herself on a label she wasn’t signed to and without a champion,” says Kelis’ manager, Jeff Rabhan. Rumor has it however that Kelis won’t be out of work for long as the “Bossy” singer is in talks to host a Project Runway-like show on VH1 and is auditioning for numerous TV and film roles.

I know peope will boo hoo over this but honestly besides Milkshake what other single did she do that was good? I hate you so much was corny but she got play and promo because she WAS really pretty. Her looks are fading now and she hasn’t got much to offer. No biggie to me that she was dropped. The world will not miss her or her music.

Not surprised  I don’t think she can sing. Her songs were interesting and the hooks catchy.

But once she cut off all of that hair it was downwards from there.

Hmmmm, you guys should’ve listened to “Kaleidescope” and “Kelis Was Here”. She’s got some great songs. And yeah, she doesn’t have powerhouse pipes, but she has a voice and is a great writer. I’m listening to her “Living Proof” song right now. I think the record company released the wrong singles on her latest CD. “Blindfold Me” is one of my least favorite cuts on the album. But “Little Star” and “I Don’t Think So” and “Til’ the Wheels Fall Off” are great tracks. She’s eclectic in her style and musical taste. I wish her luck.

I think they dropped her because she dosen’t appeal to the tween, pop audience. Well at least we know she won’t starve!!!

Kelis never solidified a fan base. Who are her fans? Not even Kelis herself could probably answer that question. She had no definitive style and thus people didn’t know what she was about or what she stood for. The girl simply had no style and without a musical style and and a base that digs that style you have nothing. Kelis was a victim of her own talentless persona that was created for her by producers hoping to capitalize on her once beautiful face and body.

Her music is a little … different but I respect her for having the courage to be original. Maybe Kelis is before her time, its hard to say because we have certain gene su qui (whatever you know what I am talking about) that we are used to hearing and seeing which is not a good thing because we are missing out on getting onto something new (like previous artist such Tracy Chapmen, Sade, Erykah B, even Tina Turner was Rock). I like Kelis as a person because she is an “underdawg” and we all root for the underdawg. I hope that she will be consistent with her music and finds a fanbase that will support her in the future. I wish her much luck and success!

    Awww DAYAM!!!

Her cd only had like 3 bangers. All her CD’s were like that except her second CD. She better get it poppin and get her head out the clouds. Love Kelis but you can’t be BOSSY all the time.

Kelis is my all time favorite star. She didn’t even want to be on that label, so she got what she wanted! Maybe now she will be happy and free to make the kind of music she wants instead of being forced to put songs on her albums that she dosen’t even want on there. What I really want to know is what happened the MTV show that was to come out with Nas and Kelis?

She needs to come up w/ a formula as to what made “Bossy” and “Millkshake” jam and just stick to that formula.
